The Mind-Reading Mate: Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me?!-Chapter 68: The King’s Awkward Proposal
Chapter 68: The King’s Awkward Proposal
"I trust you," Primrose said firmly. "I know you’ll catch me if I fall."
For a moment, neither of them said a word. Edmund stood frozen, completely overwhelmed by her answer. His head felt like it was spinning, like a sudden storm had blown through his mind.
Even without reading his thoughts, Primrose could easily tell that she had just completely defeated the mighty Lycan King’s heart. She could almost see him wanting to kneel in front of her right then and there.
"I will catch you," Edmund finally said, his voice soft but full of determination. "I’ll always catch you, no matter how high you fall."
Even if she were to fall from the sky itself, Edmund would surely do everything in his power to catch her.
Primrose bit back a small chuckle. There was no doubt about it now that Edmund was absolutely smitten with her.
A cold breeze swept past them, making Primrose shiver slightly. Without a word, Edmund took off his cloak and gently draped it over her shoulders.
"You’ll get sick if you stay out here any longer," he said gently. "Go back to your room and get some rest."
[I actually wanted to surprise her earlier by leaving my gift at her door.]
[But since she’s outside now, I can’t do that anymore. Maybe I’ll leave it tomorrow morning ... but what if a maid finds it first?]
Surprise? What surprise was Edmund trying to prepare for her this time?
Primrose hadn’t even given him the simple gift she had prepared, yet he was already planning something new for her.
Lowering her eyes, she suddenly noticed something. Edmund’s right hand had been inside his pocket the whole time, holding onto something tightly, like he was just waiting for the right moment to give it to her.
At this point, Primrose knew she wouldn’t be able to sleep unless Edmund gave her the surprise right now.
"What’s that, Your Majesty?" she asked softly, pointing at the hand he kept inside his pocket. "Are you trying to take something out?"
Edmund’s eyes widened in panic. [How could she notice something that small?!]
[What do I do? Should I just say I’m getting candy?]
[But ... maybe I should just give it to her now?]
[As long as she doesn’t know I was planning to surprise her tonight, it still counts as a surprise, right?]
Yes, please do that or Primrose might end up tossing and turning all night, wondering what her husband was hiding from her.
"This ..." Edmund began, his voice unsure. His hand moved as if it wanted to come out of his pocket, but then hesitated and went back inside. "I... I wanted to give you something."
[Screw it,] he thought. [Just give it to her and let her decide if it’s good or not.]
Finally, Edmund pulled out a small emerald-colored velvet box. The box was decorated with gold accents, making it look both elegant and luxurious.
Oh.
Primrose blinked a few times, already sensing what was inside.
It was something she had secretly been waiting for these past few days.
She was waiting for it, waiting for it to slide onto her finger before holding her tea party.
She had guessed the surprise, but what she didn’t expect at all was Edmund suddenly kneeling before her.
"Primrose," he called gently, holding the velvet box with both hands and lifting it toward her.
Primrose blinked, confused.
What was happening?
Why was he calling her name so seriously, as if ... as if he was about to propose? freēwēbnovel.com
But that didn’t make sense, right? They were already married. Why would he—
"Will you marry me?" Edmund opened the box, showing her a golden ring, beautifully set with a deep crimson gemstone, the famous Celestine Heart Gem.
Primrose stared at him in silence.
What kind of nonsense was this?
They were already married! He didn’t need to propose anymore!
And yet ... her heart fluttered. For some reason, this silly, sudden proposal felt so romantic. Too romantic. Tears welled up in her eyes before she could stop them.
Because, finally, she was experiencing a real proposal.
A man kneeling before her, offering her a ring, asking her to marry him. Just like those stories she had only heard from others. The stories she thought she’d never have for herself.
They were already married, but so what?
"I ... I heard this is how humans propose to their future wives," Edmund said, nervously trying to hold her gaze. He stayed completely still, like a statue, not daring to move until Primrose gave him an answer. "I know this is silly but—"
Before he could finish, Primrose jumped into his arms, hugging him tightly.
"I do," she whispered, her voice trembling slightly as she buried her face into his shoulder. "I do want to marry you."
They were already married. Nothing would change that, but in that moment, those simple words still meant the world.
However, if they hadn’t been married yet, and Edmund had treated her this gently and kindly, without all the misunderstandings between them, Primrose was sure she would have accepted his proposal without hesitation.
[AM I DREAMING?!]
[My wife is hugging me and saying she accepts my proposal.]
[I’M GOING TO MARRY MY WIFE—Wait ... we’re already married.]
[Why did I even do this in the first place? What if she’s embarrassed because I acted so ridiculous? I just wanted her to have the same experience as other humans, but—]
"Edmund," Primrose’s soft voice pulled him out of his swirling thoughts. She leaned back just enough to meet his eyes, noticing the panic written all over his face. "I’m really happy you did this for me," she said gently.
"You ... you are?" Edmund asked, unsure if he had heard her right.
Primrose nodded with a bright smile. "I am." She admitted softly, "The marriage proposal ... It makes me happy."
She giggled. "Even though I know we’re already married, still, knowing that you tried to do this just so I could experience it like other humans makes me really happy."
