The Mind-Reading Mate: Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me?!-Chapter 67: I Know You Will Catch Me
Chapter 67: I Know You Will Catch Me
Primrose had spent the past two days knitting the gloves, and during those two days, she hadn’t seen Edmund at all.
The soldiers had told her that ever since the Urdak chief and his family passed away, the position had been left empty. Because of that, the tribe members began fighting among themselves to claim the title of chief.
To stop the bloodshed, Edmund decided to personally step in and choose the most suitable person to become the next chief. But before he could make the decision, he had to observe and test them himself.
That was why he had been away from the palace for two whole days.
"What a hardworking person," Primrose muttered with a small sigh.
She leaned against the cold balcony railing on the third floor, gazing up at the night sky. It wasn’t very bright tonight because thick, dark clouds covered most of the stars.
The night was already late, but like always, Primrose struggled to sleep.
Therefore, she chose to wander around the quiet palace, hoping that walking would make her feel tired enough to rest.
Now, she was indeed tired, but somehow too tired to go back to her room, and ended up resting in the open space on the third floor instead.
Luckily, a few soldiers were stationed nearby, so Primrose didn’t feel completely alone.
"Do you think His Majesty will return tonight?" she asked softly, turning to the soldier standing by the balcony door.
"I’m not sure, Your Majesty," the soldier replied. "But I heard from the others that the matter with the Urdak tribe has been settled."
[Poor Queen,] the soldier thought quietly. [She must be really lonely without His Majesty here. She even has trouble sleeping when he’s gone.]
Come to think of it, Primrose realized the same thing.
It seemed like she could always sleep so peacefully whenever she spent the night with Edmund. But still, she couldn’t just ask him to stay with her every night, could she?
Well ... if she did, Edmund would probably scream in excitement without a second thought.
Even so, Primrose didn’t want to be the one to bring it up. She had already been the one taking the first step too many times. This time, she wanted Edmund to be the one who asked.
Besides, she honestly didn’t like the decorations in his room. The dark walls and floors made it feel gloomy, she’d probably feel more miserable sleeping there often.
Speaking of decorations, maybe she really should tell Edmund that she wanted to change the color of her own bedroom.
Green and gold might work well.
While Primrose was busy thinking about which colors would suit her room, she suddenly caught the faint sound of horse hooves in the distance. The neigh was so loud that anyone within a few kilometers could probably hear it.
There was only one noisy horse in the palace who made a fuss like that. freeweɓnøvel.com
It was Dante.
That big, troublesome horse who always stole food from the other horses, to the point where they had to put him on a diet for a whole month.
Primrose straightened her back, watching as the horse and its rider entered the palace grounds.
The balcony directly faced the palace gate, and since it was the only open space still lit up at this hour, it wasn’t hard for Edmund to spot her right away
"Wife! Why aren’t you asleep yet?!" Edmund pulled Dante to a stop right under the balcony. He looked up, his eyes locking onto his wife, who was already peeking down at him.
Primrose stepped carefully onto the lower part of the railing so she could see him better. "I can’t sleep!" she called out.
Of course, Edmund could hear her clearly with his sharp senses, but Primrose wasn’t as lucky. The distance between the first and third floors was too far, and the wind made it worse. There was no way she could hear him properly unless he shouted at the top of his lungs.
"What? Your Majesty, I can’t hear you!" Primrose yelled again as she saw Edmund open his mouth. She gripped the railing tighter and leaned forward.
"Wife! Step back or you’ll fall!" Edmund’s voice rose in panic as he saw her standing too close to the edge.
Primrose frowned, "What did you say?!"
Without thinking, Edmund jumped down from Dante, and in the next second, he leaped straight up to the balcony like it was nothing.
Primrose’s eyes widened in shock as she stumbled a step back. "This is the third floor!"
"I know." Edmund stood on the railing casually before hopping down in front of her. "It’s not that high."
Primrose quickly ran to the railing and peeked over, staring at the distant ground. "It is high! If I jumped down like you, my head would crack open for sure!"
Edmund took a deep breath and gently pulled her back by the waist. "That’s exactly why you shouldn’t stand so close to the edge."
Inside, Edmund was already spiraling. [What if the railing breaks like that old bookshelf? What if she falls? She’ll be hurt! Or worse!]
[No, no, I can’t let that happen! I should make this railing higher! Much higher! Maybe even taller than my wife!]
But wait, that would just make things worse.
If the railing ended up taller than her, she wouldn’t even be able to enjoy the view from the balcony anymore.
"It’s not like I’ll do that again," Primrose said quietly, holding onto the hem of his cloak. "I just wanted to see you more clearly, but since you were too far away, I didn’t even realize I was climbing the railing. Please ... don’t be mad."
[She wanted to see me that badly? She climbed the railing just to get a closer look?]
[My wife ... you’re so adorable it almost hurts.]
"I’m not mad," Edmund said, his voice softening. "I’m just worried."
These days, he found it easier to express how he felt. His words were still short and simple, but at least they were clear. Even without reading his mind, Primrose could easily understand what he meant.
"But," Primrose added playfully, looking up at him, "if I did fall... wouldn’t you catch me?" She fluttered her eyelashes on purpose, hoping to make the Lycan King fall for her even harder.
[I ... I’m really helpless if she looks at me like that.]
"You trust me that much?" Edmund asked, his gaze fixed on her.
"I trust you," Primrose answered without hesitation. "I know you’ll catch me if I fall."
