The Knight's Mysterious Maid-Chapter 491: The more the merrier (1)
Chapter 491: The more the merrier (1)
"What is going on here?" Rafael asked, confused by the sight of his parent’s carriage outside.
"Welcome back," Annalise greeted Rafael. "You bought plenty of food. That’s good because we’ll need it. They came a little after you left. Siena is here with Logan."
"They are earlier than we planned. No, my parents weren’t to come here," Rafael said.
"I don’t mind that they are here. Lydia is off somewhere playing with Beatrice and River. Your mother is eager to go out shopping to fill Lydia’s room with toys and new dresses. I’m afraid that Lydia has taken your spot as Beatrice’s favourite," Annalise said as she saw the takeover happen before her eyes.
She would be next with her parents falling for Lydia and forgetting that they had a daughter.
"Is there something that you forgot?" Annalise asked, looking inside the crate Rafael was holding. "I need something to be missing to send Logan out with Siena. Why must you be so responsible and get everything we need?"
"Sorry?" Rafael apologised. There was a lot for him to take in like why Annalise wanted to send out someone when he had everything they needed.
"Wine!" Annalise exclaimed, finding the answer to her problem.
"There are a few bottles here for guests," Rafael answered.
Annalise’s excitement faded away upon hearing this. "What can we send them for so Siena will be alone with Logan? She wants to confess her feelings to him and then their relationship can start."
"I can hide one of the meat I bought and say that we are short. We might be short," Rafael realised as he had not counted in four more people.
Annalise followed Rafael into the kitchen to help him put away the food. "Wonderful!"
"You are quite interested in their romance. I would have liked to see you this eager at the beginning of our own. Instead, I was flipped and had to face the shock of my life," said Rafael.
"That made our relationship quite exciting. I knew that you were the man for me when you were ready to ignore where I came from and continue to love me. Honestly, we have a better love story than most. I disobeyed my father and ran off with you. We should write this story and sell it," Annalise proposed.
This could be their side business to earn more money.
"Hmm," Rafael replied, having no interest in making his romance with Annalise be read by anyone. He placed the crate down on the counter and turned to Annalise. "Did you feel sick while I was away?"
Annalise shook her head. "I felt perfectly fine and all I did with Lydia before the others came was sit while she decorated her room. I feel normal. I didn’t tell your mother the news about this child. As Logan said, we might hurt her by giving her so much news at once."
"She is getting everything she wants in one day. Knowing that I am getting married and having a grandchild around for her to spoil. Once you tell her, she will not want to leave your side and might want to go to the border. She cannot," said Rafael.
"Why not? Your parents have to meet mine at some point. Wait," Annalise said, suspicious of something. "Does it bother you that others will be joining me at the border while you have to go back to the manor to do your duties? Is that it?"
"Well, it is hardly fair that they get to join you while I must return to the border alone," Rafael replied.
"You wouldn’t be alone. Logan would be joining you and he talks so much that you will not be bored. Do not look so grumpy," Annalise said, going up to Rafael to snake her hands around him. "We must part soon, but it won’t be long before I come visit you at the manor."
"Remember, we must bear with this now so we do not abandon our duties. The land for the new town should be getting cleared as we speak so the new manor can go up fast. Time will keep moving fast for us to settle at the border," Annalise promised. freēwēbnovel.com
She also disliked thinking about the fact they needed to part. They succeeded in adopting Lydia and as she promised her parents, she would return to start taking on her role as leader. She could not hold off any longer especially at this point when she was working on finishing the truce with the king.
Annalise had gotten accustomed to her daily routine with Rafael. Waking up beside him, having breakfast together and then being by each other’s side during the day. It was going to be strange going back to her life before Rafael, but there was something good waiting for them at the end of this.
"I will bear with it but no one else is allowed to go with you since it isn’t fair. Are you certain you don’t want me to travel to see you?" Rafael asked since that had been the plan in the beginning.
"Let me travel while I can now. As the months go by, you will all start losing your mind when I want to go anywhere. Besides, there are people back at the manor that I want to see. I want to visit Giselle and see Heidi. I also want to show up to scare Mavis a little," Annalise joked.
"Then I will wait patiently for you to come and during that time, I will start working on passing around the coming existence of the town. I will send anyone who wants a new life start there. You must take care of yourself or I will come back there and not leave," Rafael said, serious about every word he spoke.
"Then the palace court will argue about how I am distracting you. Not that I mind it," Annalise said as pissing off those men brought her joy. "Someone is coming."
Annalise looked to the entrance of the kitchen and to her surprise, Lydia was seated on River’s shoulders. Lydia wore the biggest smile Annalise had ever seen and it might have something to do with Lydia being taller than everyone.
"Lydia, you’ve grown tall since I last saw you," Annalise said.
"I’m taller than Rafael," Lydia said, liking her new height. Now she was the one looking down on others and no longer the shortest person here.
"Goodness, River. You are scaring me with that," came Beatrice’s voice from behind the two. She walked behind River in case Lydia might need to be caught. She was against it, but Lydia was enjoying herself. "Annalise, what is this I am hearing about you being sick? Did you call for a doctor?"
Annalise looked to Lydia as the culprit who mentioned that she was sick. She had told Siena not to mention it to Beatrice and then went back to Logan to tell him the same.
They had told Lydia to keep the baby a secret, but they didn’t say anything about her sometimes feeling sick. Annalise didn’t think it was that unwell for Lydia to comment on it, but it seemed that Lydia saw something different.
"A doctor was called already and I was told that I am fine. I only needed to rest for a while," Annalise answered. She tried not to look River’s way as it always felt like he knew what was on her mind.
She had not forgotten that in this very kitchen, River had spoken to her about her being from the border.
"Oh, that is good. We can’t have you caring for Lydia when you are sick. Why didn’t you call for the servants Rafael? Are you the one doing the cooking? The last time I saw you in a kitchen cooking a meal was when you would help me prepare dinner when we didn’t have a cook. Should I join you?" Beatrice asked, going into the kitchen to see what Rafael bought.
After playing with Lydia, she had to spare some of her time for Rafael since it had been some time since she saw him. Her little giant was back.
"You can join me if you wish. Have you gotten used to now having a granddaughter and knowing that I am engaged to Annalise?" Rafael questioned as he took out the vegetables he bought.
"Well, yes," Beatrice answered. "It was easier for me to get used to having a granddaughter faster than knowing you are now engaged because of the letter you sent when you were in Lockwood and then the knights telling me you were coming here. I didn’t know when you would ever propose."
"Did you think I would have a hard time adapting?" Beatrice asked, not understanding why it was a question directed to only her when River was standing in the kitchen. She already thought of Annalise as family so she didn’t need to take forever to get used to this change.
"No. It is good to hear that because we were waiting to inform you that Annalise is pregnant so there will be another grandchild," Rafael calmly revealed.
Beatrice froze, feeling like someone had thrown cold water on her. "Two?!"
Rafael caught his mother’s hand. "Now is not the time for your knees to go weak."
