The Knight's Mysterious Maid-Chapter 489: Daughter (2)
Chapter 489: Daughter (2)
After spending two hours at the orphanage to celebrate Lydia’s adoption with everyone, the trio headed back to get some rest after an eventful morning.
Rafael left to buy more food to last them for the days that they would be here and to start getting what they would need for their separate trips out of town.
Annalise sat in Lydia’s bedroom, helping to decorate with some of the gifts she had received from them. Lydia picked out what she would keep in this home for when they returned, what she wanted Rafael to take to the manor, and what she was going to take to the border.
Annalise was sitting on the floor, watching Lydia move around like a busy bee as Lydia called herself. "We’ll save opening the other gifts for when Rafael comes home. Tomorrow we can go to the market to get anything else you need. Like many ribbons to match all your dresses. The canvas should arrive tonight so we can paint."
Talking about ribbons, Annalise started to realise that she needed to think of ways she would do Lydia’s hair. Fortunately, she could braid because she was used to sometimes braiding up her hair when she trained so it would be out of her way.
The only problem was her having to be creative on how Lydia’s hair should be done depending on the dress she wore.
"I can cook with Rafael again tonight," Lydia said, returning to Annalise’s side now that she was finished with her room.
"You can as long as you continue to stay away from fire. I- Was that the door?" Annalise asked, listening intently to hear what it was. It is. We have a guest," Annalise said, slowly getting up. "It isn’t Rafael since he would have just come right in."
Annalise wished that it would be the court already delivering the papers about the adoption. She hoped that it wasn’t someone she didn’t know coming to speak with her now when she was helping Lydia get settled in.
Lydia walked by Annalise’s side, going down to the first floor to see who was there to see them.
"Wait here," Annalise instructed Lydia since she had to make sure it was safe. She wasn’t that familiar with the town so she didn’t know what dangers awaited them.
With Rafael gone and only the two of them remaining, someone might be bold to think this was their chance to try stealing something.
"River, it doesn’t seem like they are here."
"Beatrice," Annalise whispered, surprised to hear Beatrice’s voice. Annalise moved faster to open the door and was greeted by the sight of Beatrice, River, Siena, and Logan. "What...What are you doing here already?"
River pointed to Beatrice as the reason why they were here. He had no plans of coming to this town, but Beatrice convinced him when she learned that Siena was coming to meet with Annalise. He was convinced that it was a good break after all that they had put up with Beatrice seeing her parents again.
"I have missed you so much," Beatrice said, going straight to hug Annalise. She could not continue to sit at home waiting to hear about Annalise from whoever was with her last. They spent too much time away from each other. "Oh my. She is here."
Lydia stayed by the stairs, waiting for Annalise to tell her that she could move to greet the other Callahans and if the people behind them were safe.
River noticed something that would have Beatrice shocked twice. A nice shiny ring sitting on Annalise’s finger. "Congratulations on your engagement."
"Engagement? Wait," Beatrice stepped out of the hug to inspect Annalise’s hand and nearly fainted when she saw the ring. "You! When? Why wasn’t I informed that it happened?" She asked, turning to Siena who failed to inform her about the proposal. "I need a moment before I faint."
This was all so sudden.
"Please come inside before you faint at the door," Annalise said, stepping to the side to let them in.
Their presence was a surprise but she welcomed it because they would help the house be more lively. Annalise enjoyed that before she would have to return to the border, she would get to speak with Beatrice and River.
"You can come to speak to them, Lydia. They are your family," Annalise said, letting Lydia know it was safe to move.
Lydia would know Beatrice, River, and perhaps Logan, but she knew nothing of Siena so Annalise knew that she would be shy.
Lydia returned to Annalise’s side and stood behind her. "Hello," came her soft voice from behind Annalise.
Beatrice wanted to hug Lydia because of how cute she was. "Oh, dear. She is too cute. Did it happen already?" She asked, referring to the adoption.
"Yes, she is now our daughter. The papers have been sent off to the court for her to be known as Lydia Callahan. And yes, in the future I shall also be Annalise Callahan," Annalise confirmed for Beatrice by holding up her hand to show off the ring.
"Do not pass out," River jokingly said to Beatrice. She had been waiting for this moment and now that it was finally here, he wouldn’t put it past her to faint.
"You knew, didn’t you?" Beatrice said, pointing her finger accusingly at River. "I was the only one to not know about the ring. How unfair, but I am happy for you. To have a child and to be engaged. I only wish that I could have been near for the proposal and when the adoption was confirmed."
"You are not too late with the adoption as it happened today. We were just finishing up preparing her room and Rafael had gone out to get more food since we were starting to go low on meat. Lydia, do you want to show your room?" Annalise asked, thinking this would help her to start speaking to the others.
Lydia nodded her head.
"River and Beatrice are two of the grandparents I told you about. How about you go up with them to show your room and all the gifts we got you? Maybe you can convince them to draw birds with us when the paint and canvas come," Annalise suggested. "I will stay down here to speak with the others."
"Okay," Lydia replied, turning to Beatrice for them to walk together.
"Oh," Beatrice touched her chest, unable to handle the sight of her granddaughter. "We must go shopping to get a few things."
"For now, let us see the room before you try to leave to shop," River said, shaking his head at Beatrice’s need to spoil the child already. Beatrice was going to tire herself out fast because shopping for a few things meant shopping for a room full of gifts to Beatrice.
"My room is upstairs," Lydia said, pointing to the stairs. She reached for Beatrice’s hand so they could walk together and heard her say something about someone being cute. Beatrice was just like Rafael calling her cute, but Lydia would allow it since this was her grandmother.
"Annalise, you’ve become a mother of a.. How old is she?" Logan asked.
"She is five years old. I’ve recently confirmed that I am a mother of two," Annalise revealed.
Siena’s eyes widened while Logan looked around for the other child.
"You are?" Siena asked, looking down at Annalise’s belly.
"I am," Annalise said, nodding her head.
"Mother of an invisible child? Oh," Logan realised. "Seems like you two are secretly trying to kill Beatrice by having so much good news."
