The Knight's Mysterious Maid-Chapter 475: Growing family (2)
Chapter 475: Growing family (2)
"If you keep worrying so much, you’ll find yourself having a lot of grey hair. That is what my grandmother says. Maybe it would have been a better idea to have the doctor come to us after we travelled to the orphanage," Annalise said, staring at Rafael who sat on the other side of the carriage.
Rafael had left her after they celebrated the news of her being pregnant to find someone to work driving around the carriage in his place. Now he sat inside the carriage with her so he could keep a watchful eye on her.
Annalise made him sit on the other seat so she wouldn’t feel like there was no room for her to breathe. She loved Rafael, but she didn’t need him so close by all the time. It was cute yet annoying sometimes.
She worried about when it would come time for them to part and how Rafael would take it. Annalise was going to miss him, but she could be away from him for a week or two. She was handling this much better than Rafael. Right now, Annalise was thinking that there was a greater chance Rafael would be coming back to the border sooner than they planned.
"Let’s make a deal Rafael. Whenever I feel discomfort with my body, I will tell you," Annalise suggested so he wouldn’t need to try guessing. "However, you must be honest with me if your problems with sleeping come back. Just as you worry about me, there are things I worry about with you."
Annalise was no longer fond of keeping anything a secret because they thought it was best the other person didn’t know so they wouldn’t be concerned. They should know if each other was hurting so they could help.
"I am fine with this," Rafael said, agreeing to go along with her plan.
Annalise had woken up before him when it was time for the doctor to visit them and saw that he was asleep. His sleeping problem was getting better. If it were to ever go back to what it was before, Rafael would consider seeing a doctor as this couldn’t go on for any longer.
"Now do I get your permission to sit beside you?" Rafael asked.
"You are so needy. We are already close to the orphanage and you fail to notice how much I like looking at you. I have the perfect view of you right now. We should call for an artist to do a portrait of us. I want to remember this time of our life," Annalise said.
There was so much that happened between them during this one year. Their lives had changed in a few months.
Annalise wanted something to look back on to remember this time of her life when she was older. She would have Rafael, Lydia, and their unborn child around her, but she wanted a painting of how they looked now to remember more clearly.
"I will ask around for a good artist tomorrow," Rafael decided. He shared her interest in getting portraits done of them together. He wanted a few to take back to the manor to put on the walls.
Anyone who entered his manor would see who the lady of the manor was. He would have one done of Lydia to show that she was also a Callahan. There shouldn’t be any foolish questions about his family when their faces would be on the walls with the name Callahan right under them.
Anyone who questioned Lydia being a Callahan would not get to enter the manor again.
"Thank you. If we have nothing to do tomorrow, we should go for a walk. I know it is far from when the baby will be here, but I am ready to start buying something. Something small," Annalise said since the carriage wouldn’t be able to take too many items back to the border. "It is hard because we don’t have any idea if it will be a boy or girl. Or if there is more than one."
"I hope there is more than one-"
"You can say that because you wouldn’t be the one to get bigger to carry more than one child. How about I stuff you with food so your body can match how mine grows?" Annalise asked, tapping her fingers on her leg.
"Right. My apologies," Rafael apologised, giving up as this was a fight he would not be able to win. He was going to follow the rule of not stressing her until the very end. "One is more than enough. Whether they are boys or girls does not matter to me."
"You continue to be different from your peers. I’ve always heard that men prefer to have sons. My father has always proved that to be wrong. I don’t mind if they will be a girl or a boy. As long as they come into this world safely. I hope they will be prepared for the crazy parents they have," Annalise joked.
Their children should look forward to having one big crazy family that was going to love and protect them. There would never be a dull moment in their lives.
"We’re here already," Annalise said, looking out the carriage window to the orphanage. This time the children weren’t outside like they were earlier when they first returned.
When the carriage stopped, Rafael opened the door for Annalise and helped her out. The sun was soon going to set so the children were called in before any of them could get lost in the dark.
"Are you ready?" Annalise asked as they were both walking into a great test.
"I am. Nervous?" Rafael asked in return. She was more calm and collected since they returned to the orphanage, but there could be some nervousness she felt walking into the test now.
"No. There is nothing to worry about. I will be honest about where I came from and do my best to convince Thelma that Lydia will be safe. She trusts you so that will help us. I just need you to jump in whenever it seems like I am struggling to answer a question. We must help each other," Annalise said, squeezing his hand as she was a little nervous. "I will also help you if needed."
Hearing no to adopting Lydia would ruin the happiness she felt right now.
Annalise could see Thelma right ahead inside the orphanage. She was most likely awaiting their arrival as she was the one to set what time they should return. "She is already coming out to us. I thought we would have gotten to see the children again first. Fine, we should get the questions out of the way."
Thelma ended her conversation with the other caretaker and walked to the gates to greet the couple. "Again you are on time. The children are in the middle of washing up so we can prepare for dinner. I have a room prepared for us to speak without the children disturbing us."
"This way," Thelma pointed in the direction they had to go. "I hope you are ready and do not mind if some of the questions are a bit harsh. I must get my answers to know that she will be in good hands."
