Chapter 455: Love (4)

Rafael moved strands of hair out of Annalise’s face so it wouldn’t bother her as she rested. Annalise laid with her head on his arm and hugged his body as she tried to fall asleep. "I still think you should let go of me so I can find something more comfortable for us to sleep on," he said as the clothes he gathered for them to sleep on wouldn’t be soft enough to have a good nights rest.

"I am fine. The floor is warm and your body is soft. You’ll need to go out into the cold air to get something for us to lay on and it is late. The only person you can go to get a blanket and clothes for us to wear at this time is my grandmother. Stay here," Annalise said, hugging Rafael tighter so he wouldn’t leave.

"Then I will need to get up early in the morning to find something for you to wear and rub your back. You’ve already taken over my shirt even though I brought down your shirt from upstairs," Rafael said, looking over the shirt that was too big for Annalise.

It stopped above her thighs, unlike the other one that suited her perfectly.

Annalise laid on her shirt and pants whilst wearing Rafael’s shirt. Rafael wore only his pants. He had offered it for Annalise to lay on but she felt guilt about having everything else.

"Your shirts are more comfortable than mine. Maybe it is better quality. Whatever it is, I will be wearing more of your shirts in the future. I will return them as fast as I can so you don’t miss any," Annalise said.

She was more comfortable in his shirt right now than in the dress she usually wore to bed.

"If someone were to come attack us right now, I am able to kick them. I’ll wear dresses during the day because I know how much you like seeing me in them. You must promise me that no matter how tired I look, you wake me early in the morning so we can go together to start buying what we need. Promise," Annalise said, sticking out her pinky finger.

"I can’t make that promise, Annalise. You’ve been moving around a lot since we came here and not resting. I will let you sleep until you’re well rested and then we can go shopping. You need a good night’s sleep to not be tired tomorrow when you are with your father," said Rafael.

"It is partly your fault that I am tired. It’s late but still early when I think of when I used to go to bed. I’ve only started going to bed early because of you. When I worked as a maid in the manor, my plan was to snoop around when the house was quiet. It needs to be explained why Edwin doesn’t go to bed early, but he is the first one to be awake," Annalise said as Edwin ruined many of her plans.

Rafael smiled. He needed to give Edwin a gift for soiling the little intruder’s plans. "He likes to give the manor a look over to see what needs to be done the next day. Had you snuck around at night, you would have come across me at some point. I sometimes come out to train when I can’t sleep."

Annalise opened her eyes. "Do you still have trouble sleeping? I fall asleep so fast that I never notice you are still awake. I forgot to ask my mother about the tea to help you sleep. She could mix it for you tomorrow. She’d do anything for you now that you are family. Well, she always considered you family from the beginning."

"I am fine without it. I wake in the middle of the night and get to watch you sleep."

"That’s not creepy at all," Annalise muttered, trying to roll away from Rafael, but his hand on her waist stopped her.

"You tend to roll the same way when you sleep so I pull you close again and hold you. I’ve wondered what you dreamed about to have you tossing in your sleep. Nightmares?" Rafael asked as he failed to come up with a good answer on his own.

Annalise didn’t believe she was tossing in her sleep. She had always woken up in the same position she fell asleep in or close to it. Maybe he was bored and moving her around. "All my dreams are fun. A few of them might have been dreams about what we will have to face in the future. Us being from different lands. It was mostly about the truce not happening," Annalise admitted.

"So it was like nightmares to have you moving around so. I’ll see tonight if you sleep peacefully through the hard floor might have you turning to find a good spot. The offer to rest on my body is still here," Rafael said, tapping his bare chest.

"Then I won’t be getting any sleep," Annalise replied, closing her eyes to once again attempt to sleep. "Do you think it would be too soon for us to pick out a room for Lydia and decorate? Even if we don’t get to adopt her, it could be used for another child. As much as we sleep together, that won’t be far off."

"You can do as you want, Annalise. Unless she doesn’t want to come with us, I don’t see why we would not get to adopt her. It is unlikely they wouldn’t allow us to adopt any children. You will be fine," Rafael said, kissing Annalise’s forehead afterwards to cheer her up.

"I still cannot help thinking that my coming from the border will ruin it. Everyone thinks it’s a dangerous place filled with fighting. I already plan to tell them what the sign on their gates means to give us a chance. Since I’ve met you, I started to worry a lot. Go away," Annalise jokingly said.

"Then I should be telling you to go away too because there are many things I started to worry about since you came around. It’s only natural that now you have someone else you want to protect, you worry about all kinds of things. I worry about stranger things than most men. That doesn’t hurt," Rafael said, laughing at her failed attempt to hurt him by pinching him.

"I was going easy on you. I am currently worrying about the day we will get married. You need to go back soon and I don’t want to rush a wedding before then. Beatrice and River need to be present. Our parents should meet first. It might take us longer than most to get married. We should give our mothers the pleasure of planning it," Annalise suggested.

She wouldn’t regret not planning her own wedding as other than getting a dress, Annalise didn’t know what else she needed to get. It would be a great way for Beatrice and Celine to bond.

"If that fails, Edgar suggested that we get married in a church in the middle of the night for us to not have to speak to anyone," said Rafael. Edgar’s idea was starting to sound good now.

"Our mothers would not let us see the next night if we did that. That is not an option for us," Annalise replied.
