The Knight's Mysterious Maid-Chapter 413: Harmless (3)
Chapter 413: Harmless (3)
After a conversation about people Annalise didn’t know the men left the room leaving the women all alone to talk. Annalise now knew the other woman sitting with them was Eleanor. They were expecting another woman named Heather, but it wasn’t for certain she would be arriving.
Now that Annalise thought about it, she should have brought along Siena since she wanted to see the palace and it would have been a good chance for her to meet the queen.
"Are you not afraid they might toss him from a window? Edgar isn’t too thrilled about an engagement between our children and it won’t be long before he starts attacking whoever brings it up," said Alessandra, worried for Tobias.
"You wouldn’t want to have me as an in-law?" Hazel asked, not serious about it but she wanted to hear if possible, Alessandra would be open to it if their children were to fall in love.
"I would love it, but I also understand why Edgar is against it. The palace is not an easy place to be in and I don’t want my child, boy or girl to put up with it. Our children will be close so should they fall in love, I won’t get in the way. I can’t say the same for Edgar. I see him being overprotective," Alessandra replied. freёweɓnovel.com
"It is still much to take in the type of father Edgar might be. What kind of father do you think Rafael would be, Annalise?" Hazel questioned, bringing Annalise into the conversation so she wouldn’t feel left out.
"I think he would also be overprotective, but gentle, giving his child freedom. Like his parents River and Beatrice," Annalise replied. She imagined their child having Rafael in the palm of their hands and Rafael enjoying it. She got a glimpse of it from seeing him with Lydia.
"I love Lady Beatrice. It’s been so long since I met with her here in the palace. She must be so excited to have you in Rafael’s life. Tell me, does she speak of getting the two of you to wed?" Hazel asked as like many mothers, Beatrice was trying her hardest to get Rafael to marry.
"In the beginning, she spoke about it a lot and it comes up a few times now, but she’s left us to figure out when we will get married. We are not in a rush," Annalise answered, but these days she felt in a rush to do it. She wanted to show off that Rafael was taken.
"Please take your time. My engagement to Tobias felt like a blur since there was so much to do. So much to prepare for and time went by so fast that sometimes I feel I didn’t get to enjoy my time with him before we got married. Do me a favour and do not be like Alessandra here to get married while the town is asleep. I want to be invited to your wedding," said Hazel.
"It just happened that way. If not for certain people, I might have had a proper wedding with Edgar. Not that I mind how we did it. We got married in a church late at night," Alessandra informed Annalise in case she didn’t know.
"After Edgar killed your father and another man. It still amazes me that you two were in the mood to get married after something like that," commented Eleanor. She was close to putting it as the plot of the next book she was writing, but with more dirty details because she wanted this one to be sold in the red light district. "It’s a strange yet lovely start to a marriage."
"I think it is exciting," Annalise said, causing everyone to turn to look at her. Alessandra got to witness a fight and then went off to get married. There was no better interesting wedding story to share than this. "Can I ask why the duke killed your father?"
"You can. The town has been twisting the story so it is best if you hear it from me. My father was more horrible than those around us realised. He was trying to send me off to a man around his age. I don’t like to think about what I was being sent to do. Edgar arrived in time and killed my father after asking me. What my father tried to do was the last I could put up with," Alessandra explained.
Alessandra always wanted to make it clear that she had told Edgar to kill her father so no one would view him as some monster. Like he had killed her father and now she was stuck in a marriage with him because she was scared.
"My husband isn’t as bad as may try to paint him," Alessandra said, hoping Annalise had not heard foul things about Edgar before meeting him. "He’s just very straight to the point and likes to get rid of danger rather than leaving it to come to harm us one day."
"I don’t think the duke is bad. I’ve been intrigued by him, wanting to know how he killed your father and what kind of weapons a man of his status and wealth has. Would you be open to inviting me over in the future to see your dungeon?" Annalise asked, crossing her fingers that Alessandra would say yes.
Alessandra was caught off guard by Annalise’s request to see the dungeon. That was someplace Alessandra wouldn’t frequent because of what happens there. "If that is what you want, I will make it happen. I’m sure Edgar would be happy to know someone is a fan of his dungeon and take over to show you around," she replied.
"Thank you! And for helping me, I will try my best to convince the duke when possible to let you have a dog," said Annalise, wanting Alessandra to get her pet. She was in the same situation with convincing Rafael.
Alessandra’s eyes light up because now she had someone on her side to help her convince Edgar that they need a dog. A friendly one for their child to play with. She didn’t question how Annalise knew she wanted a dog as long as she got help. "Thank you. It might help if I can get Rafael to tell Edgar that we should have a dog."
"Oh please. Edgar is going to show up with a puppy for you soon," Hazel said, knowing Alessandra didn’t need to try this hard because Edgar was a sucker for her.
Eleanor nodded her head, agreeing with Hazel. She wouldn’t be surprised if she were to visit Alessandra tomorrow and find a puppy running around.
"It is like trying to convince Rafael to let me have a snake or to keep my spider. He doesn’t like it, but it isn’t long before he comes around to let me do it. He’s already started to like the kitten I rescued," Annalise said, remembering the sight of the kitten lying on Rafael’s lap this morning. "The spiders and snakes are as harmless as the kittens," she added as the trio looked scared.
"You have a kitten. I should visit to see it. I miss when the cats I have now were so tiny and cute. I still love them but I would love to play with another. Then for letting you see our dungeon, one day you must bring over the kitten for me to play with. I hope the others won’t get jealous and avoid me. I already have to deal with them liking Edgar more," said Alessandra.
She hoped to convince Edgar to let her have a lot of pets so she was going to cheer for Annalise to get her snake and spider. As long as she didn’t have to be anywhere near the two as snakes and spiders weren’t her idea of a pet.
"There are many spiders in the bushes behind our estate. Not now that it is winter, but if you come when it is warmer you can have many. I will plan a day for us to meet," Alessandra said, already planning the gathering in her head. She would put it together better when she returned home and told Alfred.
Hazel and Eleanor weren’t thrilled about looking around for spiders but they were going to accept the invitation to get to know Annalise more and they both did not want to miss a gathering in Edgar’s home.
Annalise, on the other hand, was excited to have a good spot to find friends for Herbert.
