Rafael planned on keeping the maid here until Annalise was out of town and on her way to the palace. He didn’t ask why Siena wasn’t keeping her maid around, but he knew there had to be a conflict since she was sending away the one person she was close to.

What Rafael did not need was for Kayla to be twisting any stories and having Annalise become a target for Siena’s father if he was going to come looking for his daughter.

"I do not know what I might have done wrong. If it is for how I spoke to Annalise, I apologise," said Kayla.

Rafael narrowed his eyes as this was news to him. "What are you talking about concerning Annalise?"

Kayla bit her lip as now she felt she had shared something Rafael had no knowledge about. Had Annalise not whined and told him about their issues? There was nothing else she could think of for why he had taken her.

"You’ve been loud since you were brought here. Keeping quiet now won’t get you out of here faster," said Rafael.

Now that she mentioned Annalise, he saw all the more reason for her to be here.

Kayla hesitated to tell him the truth but thinking it couldn’t get any worse than she was already experiencing she answered, "It didn’t make any sense for you to pick her over my lady. You might not know that she killed a man and didn’t have any remorse over taking his life. She is wild and a man like yourself should not be around her."

"I see," Rafael said, realising now why there might be conflict. If she mentioned Annalise being wild to her face, he was surprised to see that Kayla was still in one piece. "You’ll be free when I think you won’t be a problem. Keep quiet until then."

"You cannot keep me here when I have done nothing. The lady told me to return to her father and that was what I did only to be taken by you. Please let me go and I will not tell anyone that you kidnapped me. I will return to Siena’s father like I was meant to. Or is he already in town?" Siena inquired.

She wanted Siena’s father to come here to put some sense back into her head. Siena needed someone to get her away from Annalise and help her get married to someone who would care for her.

Kayla worried about what happened between Siena and the knight since she was here and there was no one to watch over her to make sure she didn’t make a foolish decision. Kayla agreed with Travis that Siena was following Beatrice’s steps. Getting entwined with a knight far below her status.

"He is," Rafael lied.

Kayla smiled, thrilled to know he was here already. Once he told Siena that she had not made it home, Siena would know that something happened to her and come looking. He would take Siena out of the manor and escort her back home. Then it wouldn’t be long before Siena asked about her and Rafael would have to confess that he was the one to take her for no reason.

Rafael was amused by the smile on Kayla’s face but wasn’t interested in asking what it was about. It had to be that she thought Siena’s father would come looking for her.

A cell wasn’t a fun place to be, but he had this one cleaned up and her needs tended to so it wouldn’t be so bad. She would soon be moved to another space since he wouldn’t be returning here after Travis was killed. All she needed to do was sit quietly and await the day he would let her go.

"Wait!" Kayla yelled, sticking her hand out of the cell door to try grabbing him, but he was too far out of reach. "Please do not leave me here. I will go quietly this time."

"That sounds like you had some kind of plan that would have annoyed me," said Rafael.

The more she talked and exposed herself the more he didn’t regret taking her.

Kayla bit her lip once more, creating a small bruise. She said nothing important but he was still suspicious of her.

Yes, she did have a plan for when she would get out of this town, but it did not concern him. At least she didn’t think that it would. Rafael didn’t seem willing to end his relationship with Annalise and Kayla did not want Siena to be around a man with a mistress so trying to get the two to marry should be over with.

It wouldn’t be hard for the Caldwells to find another man for Siena. Shane Caldwell had many friends with sons who were yet to marry.

"You are really protective of the lady. So much that you stepped out of line and were sent away. I would use this time to reflect on my actions and try to fix the friendship you had. Think of this as me granting you time to think alone in peace," Rafael said and then started to walk away from Kayla.

He still needed a place to rest for a few hours before his father would kill Travis and then to wait out when Annalise would return to the manor. Days like this were sometimes boring and now he was thinking of making more use of the indoor training room.

"You gave up my lady for that wild woman! Do you have any sense?"

Rafael stopped walking. He had no issue with Kayla other than he sensed she would be a problem if he let her get out of town. She was creating a problem by continuing to speak of Annalise as wild when he knew Annalise disliked the word.

He wondered how many times she had said it before Annalise. How many times had she said it after he had welcomed her into the manor, offered food, and given her a room to rest her head for the night? Something he normally only did if he was close to the person.

"Stop using the word wild or you will never get out of here," Rafael warned her.

"We are speaking of a woman who killed a man! I am yet to see what you see by being with a maid. Maybe you have not noticed it but your status has grown over the years. You are acting like your," Kayla stopped herself as she realised she had gotten ahead of herself and might have angered him by mentioning his mother.

"Go on and finish it. Acting like my what?" Rafael asked, turning around to make his way back to her cell.

All she needed to do was be quiet and soon find herself free. It amazed him that she kept running her mouth.

Kayla looked down, regretting that she was going to bring up Beatrice who had nothing to do with this, but the woman had started something awful and those who came across her were following her path.

"I am thinking of Annalise. You won’t marry a maid. A man of your status won’t do that and you had the chance to marry my lady, but that will not happen with the mistress you are flaunting. There is still a chance for you because the Caldwells and Normans wanted a union of the two families. All you need to do is get rid of Annalise. The woman does not suit you. Everything will fall into place once you do that," said Kayla.

There was still the faintest bit of hope to solve all of this so Siena wouldn’t be at odds with her father. The one piece that stopped the puzzle from being complete just needed to go.

Rafael stopped right in front of the cell door. She had succeeded in annoying him at the wrong time and now she was going to stay here a little longer. He looked beyond Kayla at the wood she needed to burn to keep herself warm from the cold.

"I will tell them you need a week’s worth of firewood. I advise you to stop speaking of Annalise as wild or a mistress because it is bothering me and you won’t like it when that turns to anger. I advise you not to speak of my mother because my father is nearby and will dispose of you. I am warning you for the last time to be silent now if you ever wish to be free," said Rafael.

"We can solve your chatty problem by getting rid of your tongue and sew your lips together. I urge you to speak," Rafael said, inviting her to continue so he could silence her.

Kayla backed away from the cell door, covering her mouth with her hands to not let a sound be heard. What was wrong with this man?
