Chapter 395: Free (1)

"Are you sure he is not dead?" Rafael asked, watching Travis who was not moving. It was hard to tell from where he sat if the man was still breathing.

River gazed down at Travis. By now, Travis had gotten used to lying on the floor. "He is still alive. Perhaps sleeping. I will wake him soon." freeweɓnovel.cѳm

"When will you finally end him?" Rafael questioned.

It was going more than a week later and he didn’t want his father spending so much time here with Travis. He had done enough to take out his anger. Now it was time to kill Travis and move on.

"Soon before they come looking for him," River replied.

It was early in the morning that a letter was sent to the mansion Travis was renting and then sent to River by a knight left there. The Normans were coming to look for their heir since Travis had not sent them a letter.

The mere fact that Travis was sending letters to his family to confirm he was well and alive made River laugh at just how much of a coward Travis was.

"I hope by the time they come you and Annalise will be out of town. This isn’t your fight and there is conflict awaiting you in the palace. When you are done with the palace, take her somewhere nice. She’s been spending a lot of time inside the manor," said River.

He wanted Rafael one step ahead before Annalise would get bored. She was not someone to enjoy being inside for so long.

"I am aware. I have it all figured out," Rafael answered. He had plans aside from when they would be speaking about the truce. People she would meet and things he would do.

River finished writing the letter he had to send to the guards and turned to Rafael. "It sounds like you intend to propose to her soon. I hope you have that same plan even if things don’t go as planned with the truce. The kingdom needs a man like you to keep protecting it. Be sure to remind those fools of what they could lose."

"Tobias seems to be convincing them to hear Annalise out. Hopefully, we won’t have to deal with a headache when we go. If I could, I would not take her to the palace. There’s always something happening in that place. Like with Grant," Rafael said, wishing he had been around for that fight.

"What happened to him does not surprise me. So many people want to get their hands on the throne and in the end they end up losing their hands. I’m sure the king and queen will be fine. They will share good news soon. If not for Annalise, you might have left to see the king already. I share your mother’s sentiments that you need a good vacation," said River.

He was close to tying Rafael up, throwing him in a carriage, and sending him off somewhere with Annalise.

"Take time to enjoy being alone with Annalise. You two have so many responsibilities. You want to start building up a new town. She’ll be busy taking after her father and don’t get me started on if you two have children. You need to start working on making time for each other," River advised Rafael.

"I’ve been making plenty of time for Annalise throughout the day. It is only you and mother that I acted busy around so I wouldn’t have to hear about weddings and grandchildren," Rafael joked.

"Don’t make me hit you with something boy."

Travis groaned, disturbed by the voices he was hearing in the room. His eyes still hurt so he didn’t attempt to open them to see who was around. River had to be here since it was always him but he couldn’t make out who was with River.

"My parents," he said, still holding onto the fact his parents would come looking for him. They should be here by now to take him and kill River for the hell he put him through.

There were many moments Travis felt like crying and though he wanted to hide it from River, he could not hold it in sometimes.

"Beatrice," Travis called for his sister.

Until his parents arrived, he wanted to talk to her since it was always easy for him to manipulate her into feeling sorry for him. If she were to see his state now, she would get her husband to stop. That was the foolish person she had been and always will be. He could count on his sister to be a fool.

"I want to apologise to her," cried Travis.

River and Rafael shared a look, both having the same thought that the siblings meeting again was never going to happen.

Beatrice already expressed that she had nothing to say to her brother and if she did, now was not the time because Travis wouldn’t be genuine with his apology. Travis was just looking for a way to stop being tortured.

"I will kill him tonight," River said, finally deciding on the time. "Before I go back to your mother. Don’t mention anything about your grandparents if you will be going to pick up Annalise. I will tell your mother tomorrow. Let the women enjoy their day all the way to the moon being high in the sky."

"Annalise is riding back home with some women from the manor. I can stay here later to help you dispose of him. You need to make his body unrecognisable because the guards have who they believe is Travis. Are you sure you and mother will be fine if I leave before the Normans come looking?" asked Rafael, worried about leaving them behind.

Travis was easy to deal with, but his father who let him get away with his evil deeds might not be so easy. With Travis not responding to their letters, they might come looking for him with a lot of men to help them and then there would be a bigger problem when they learn of his death.

"Look at you thinking I always need your help when I taught you everything you know. The Normans will leave as quickly as they come. What you need to worry about is the girl you have as a guest in your home because her parents will come looking for her," River said, referring to Siena.

"Annalise wants to take her with us out of town. It seems Siena has no plans of going back to her father to be forced to marry someone else. I will leave the two of you," Rafael said, pushing off the wall to stand up straight. "I am going to find somewhere without a bad scent to rest. Don’t kill him until I return."

"I will make no promises," River answered.

Rafael exited the room and closed the door beside him. After today, he wouldn’t have any reason to come back here.

"Let me out!"

Except for that reason. He had forgotten all about her.

Rafael walked to the right where there was another smaller room which was like a cell instead of the room Travis was in. "Yelling won’t do you any good. There is no one around to hear you."

Kayla moved closer to the cell doors to see Rafael clearly. "I did nothing to be held here. Please let me go."

Rafael didn’t respond and just watched her. There was something about her that he didn’t trust so he had ordered the knights to take her before she could get out of town.
