Chapter 384: Close to peace (1)

"Patience, Annalise. You promised him you would stay outside and I don’t feel like chasing you right now," said Ezra.

"I wasn’t going to move but aren’t you concerned about the noise we heard? Rafael told me if I heard a loud noise I should get far away. Someone used a gun and we have no idea who was hurt by it. This is torture," Annalise muttered, tempted to forget what she promised and go inside.

"I don’t have a lover inside to be concerned and I am warning you that if you try to go in there, I will catch you and take you back to the manor. If you’re not going to fight, why did he let you come? Was it needed for so many to come for one man? Is his uncle a threat to our people?" Ezra asked. He was yet to understand why he should be interested in killing Travis.

"He tried to kidnap me and since he wanted to marry off Rafael to a woman of his choice, he would like me dead. He is a threat to your future leader and now that he is taken care of, we can focus on the truce. I hope we get to go to the palace soon. What is taking them so long to come out?" Annalise asked, going back to worrying.

"You should have just stayed at the manor or he should have snuck out so you didn’t know where he was going. It wouldn’t be a lie if he didn’t tell you so don’t look at me like that," Ezra said before Annalise could comment. "I am bored, but that doesn’t mean I will follow you in there to help them. Let them take care of their own fight."

"I should have brought Thomas with me because he would have been quiet unlike you. Again, this is why you are still alone," Annalise muttered.

"Who is speaking about me back home? I have asked you over and over again, but you failed to give me an answer. I can only assume that you are lying and trying to make me feel bad that I do not have someone in my life because you suddenly have a partner. Do not cross me, Annalise. I will tell that man about your youth," Ezra warned.

"Go ahead. I doubt anything you say will surprise him. That won’t change that I’ve overheard a few things about you. I can’t help it anymore. I need to go closer," Annalise said, sliding off her horse.

She wouldn’t go inside but she wanted to walk around instead of staying in one place. All of Travis’s men outside were either dead or surrounded by knights so there was nothing to worry about. There was no one outside to try hurting her.

"Annalise. Fucking hell," Ezra said, getting off of his horse to follow her. He was bored, but he wasn’t that bored to want to walk toward the fight. He liked sitting back and watching the knights fight.

"We are just looking around to make sure no one is escaping. We should make ourselves useful since we’re here. Don’t you want to get a closer look at the knights actually fighting? I see you looking at the ones who have been training to stay in shape. We won’t get into any fights," Annalise said, walking to the side of the mansion away from the front doors so Rafael would not see her.

"It worries me that you didn’t say you promised not to fight just now. If he gets angry with you for not staying where he left you, I am not getting involved," said Ezra.

"Because you are too old to deal with someone’s problems?" Annalise asked, looking around the garden they walked through. She missed the look Ezra gave her for commenting on his age.

"I am younger than your father-"

"But far older than me. You make it too easy for me to get under your skin. I bet you wish you didn’t accept coming here to watch over me. No matter how you look at it, my father is going to be angry with you. I will save you as long as you keep quiet about whatever you see in the manor. Siena," Annalise said, looking up at someone dangling from a window.

"Since when did she start climbing? She’s turning out to be a lot of fun," Annalise said, excited to see what Siena was doing. She ran to the window Siena was coming out from and as she got closer, she saw the annoying maid. "Do you need help?"

Siena jolted, surprised by someone speaking to her, but when she looked down and saw Annalise, she felt relieved. "I want to come down but I am too scared to move. I can’t hold myself up much longer and my feet are slipping from the ledge down there."

Ezra came to stand beside Annalise to look at the young woman holding onto the window for dear life. "If we throw something up there at her hands, she’ll let go and one of us can catch her," he suggested.

"Ezra, that is cruel and there are only rocks around. What if we miss her and hit the maid? I can’t say I would be too regretful," Annalise said as she had not forgotten what Kayla said about her after she killed someone to protect them. "I’m going up to help her. Stay down in case she falls. Someone’s coming," Annalise whispered, stopping after taking just two steps.

Ezra pulled out his sword ready to attack whoever was coming toward him, but he relaxed when he heard that familiar annoying armour.

"I knew that was you. What are you doing here? Rafael is going to punish all of us for not keeping an eye- What is she doing?" Logan asked, now noticing the current state Siena was in.

"Is Rafael fine? I heard a noise and no one came outside," Annalise said, going to Logan instead of Siena.

"I’m sure you two have much to talk about but can someone please help me? I don’t want to fall to the ground. There’s a guard outside my door," Siena said, trying her best to keep her grip on the window. Kayla was holding her hands, but she felt that just made it worse.

"I will help you up," Kayla said, not wanting Siena to go with Annalise. Not when she wouldn’t be able to join Siena fast enough that she would be left alone with Annalise and the knight Siena should not entertain. It was better to stay inside and she wished Siena had listened to when she said this.

Kayla looked back as she heard the doorknob moving. "There is someone at the door. Come in, my lady."

"No, jump," Annalise said, going under where Siena was.

Logan and Eza joined Annalise to help with catching Siena.

"Do not," Kayla said, trying to pull Siena up.

"I can’t," Siena replied just as her fingers slipped. She could not hold on any longer and she fell from the window down to where Annalise and the others awaited her. novelbuddy.cσ๓

Annalise, Logan, and Ezra held out their hands to catch her. When Siena landed in their arms, she took them down with her to the ground with all of them falling.

Siena was not worried about herself since Kayla was alone with someone coming inside. "Kayla- Oh," Siena said, calm now that she saw who had entered the room.

Annalise looked up to see who the intruder was and found Rafael looking out the window, not pleased to see her present.
