The Knight's Mysterious Maid-Chapter 382: Settling the past (3)
Chapter 382: Settling the past (3)
Siena hoped that River was here to kill Travis so she could leave. She didn’t know where she would go after Travis died since she would not want to stay here, but as long as Travis was dead, she could figure everything out afterwards.
Siena didn’t mind going with the guard because she could sneak out of her bedroom window to get away with Kayla. Travis already looked out of his mind and if he had no tricks to play against River, she didn’t want to be used as a hostage for Travis to get his way out of dying. Her greatest concern now was having the strength to get from her window to the ground floor without hurting herself.
Travis walked out of the room first to get his gun and sword. It was long overdue that he got rid of River. The husband would die while his sister would rot somewhere alone. It would push Rafael away from him, but he would take care of that later.
"All of you idiots better be doing what I paid you for!" Travis yelled as he passed guards running to defend his home.
He didn’t travel with an army to match the number of knights Rafael had since he never planned to fight Rafael, but he had invested in the best fighters to defend him. If River wanted to kill him, he should be a man and do it one on one. Not using Rafael’s knights.
Travis rushed to his study where the gun was put away in case the town guards would ever pay him a visit. He cared little about the law which prevented him from using his gun. Everyone who had their hands on a gun was using it in secret. He would bet that the king enjoyed using guns when no one was around.
Travis entered his study and went straight to a box he didn’t need to lock as his servants knew better than to steal from him unless they wanted to be his target during the night. He opened the box and found the gun just as he had left it with a few bullets for him to use.
After taking up the large gun and the bullets, Travis reached for his sword, but then he spotted his crossbow. He could use the two weapons to kill from afar to remain safe and take a sword from one of his guards if needed.
In the midst of making his decisions, a loud noise was heard from downstairs followed by yelling that he couldn’t make out.
"These fucking bastards," Travis said, taking the gun alone since it would be hard to carry the crossbow and arrows or sword with the gun.
Travis started to load the gun with the ammunition as he walked to the door to be ready for anyone entering his home. He hoped that River was at the front so he could kill him first and then kill off some of the knights.
"Travis!"
Travis slowed down as he walked out of his study because of the familiar voice of River. The voice had changed to be deeper, but he could never forget the voice of the man who almost ruined his family name.
Travis smiled, loading the gun faster to be ready for River. When he was done with River and the bastards who entered his home, he was going to line up all the guards he hired and kill them off one by one for wasting his money.
Travis reached the stairs and already he saw knights walking around his home holding onto one of his guards most likely to get his location. It wasn’t long before he spotted the man of the hour. The reason they were all here right now. Not far behind River was Rafael, like a loyal son.
Rafael was the first one to spot Travis standing on the stairs, pointing a gun at his father. Rafael rushed to where his father stood and blocked him from Travis. At this point, Travis still needed him alive to wed Siena so Travis wouldn’t be so stupid to fire unless he had given up on the marriage.
"It’s touching you are willing to die for your father, but you need to get out of the way, Rafael. I’d hate to have to shoot you in the foot," Travis said, keeping his gun aimed though Rafael blocked his target.
He couldn’t aim to kill Rafael, but he’d shoot him in the foot to get him away from River. Hopefully, Rafael wouldn’t be injured enough to ruin his plans.
"You come into my home unannounced like the cowards you are. You must not want to keep your reputation intact, Rafael. The people will question your presence here. Do not let your father drag you down," said Travis.
"We have every right to kill you for trying to kidnap my woman," Rafael answered. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
He already took care of sending Olivia to the town guards and for Annalise to tell the same story. Nothing could be said about them coming to kill Travis when he started this.
"Your woman. Ha," Travis scoffed, ticked off that Rafael was claiming someone. "I’ve set everything up for you to have a good life and you decide to go with a woman who can’t give you anything. You’re more like your mother than I thought. Picking up things off the road. Get out of the way, Rafael. I’d hate to kill my nephew."
With Siena close to acting like Beatrice, this engagement plan was starting to fail. If he had to go through another one of his plans not working, he’d kill Rafael, River, and send his sister off to a madhouse. It was the only way he would feel satisfied.
Rafael continued to stand blocking his father. It was good Annalise was not here or she might have his head for standing in the path of a gun.
"Which one of your bastards tried to soil Siena?" Travis asked, wanting that knight dead along with River.
Rafael didn’t know what Travis meant since he heard nothing from Siena since he saw her out of town and no one informed him of meeting with her.
"Fight me like a man. Just you and me with swords," River said from behind Rafael. He didn’t want to have his son be his shield for much longer. There was an adrenaline rush inside of him to do whatever he could to get to Travis.
"All of you take me for a fool. You want me to put down my gun to fight just you? I’m not a fool to trust your son won’t jump in. You should’ve thought twice about coming to my home. Any move from any of your men and I will fire right at your son’s head. I can get a wedding done before he bleeds to death," Travis said, going down the stairs.
No one could move unless they wanted to be shot. His bullets were limited, but unless they charged him all at once like fools, he had nothing to worry about. He moved to find a better angle to hit the River and leave Rafael untouched.
"When I’m done with you, I’m going straight to that sister of mine. I," Travis paused, looking away after hearing footsteps from the top of the stairs. He saw Solomon standing with a sword in his hands.
Solomon looked clean like he had just gotten out of bed and hadn’t joined in protecting the mansion.
Travis kept looking back and forth from Solomon to Rafael to make sure River wasn’t moving. Now he had someone to watch his back. "Where are all the others?"
Solomon looked down at the sword in his hands. After the death of Mack, he didn’t feel like himself. He wanted to cut ties with a man like Travis who killed them for saying things he didn’t like. It was a hard decision to make, but unless he took this chance now, he would forever be at Travis’s mercy.
"Some are dead and some ran," Solomon answered as he walked to Travis. He gripped his sword, remembering how he had to strap Mack to the wall so he would be still for Travis to end.
"I’ll deal with them later. Bring your sword," Travis said, turning back to River. "Kill whoever comes up the- You fucking traitor!" Travis yelled as Solomon reached for his gun.
