She had turned down Beatrice’s offer to eat breakfast with them as Annalise didn’t have the strength to sit with them for breakfast, sit with them in the carriage, and then walk around together. As much as she liked the Callahans, she did not want to spend too much time with them.

Annalise wanted to spend less time with Beatrice since she couldn’t help thinking that Beatrice would somehow be able to sense that she spent the night with Rafael. Based on what Rafael said, his father might have guessed it, but River behaved like normal. Focusing only on his wife.

Annalise looked out the carriage window at the view of the market. She didn’t get to spend a lot of time looking around when she came yesterday with Beatrice since they spent most of their time inside looking at dresses.

The carriage stopped to let them off and like the gentleman River was, he opened the door to offer his hand to help Beatrice outside. Rafael exited after his mother and like his father, he offered his hand to help Annalise out.

Annalise had no reason to reject his help so she placed her hand in his to step out of the carriage.

"There is much to do today since our days on this trip are going by fast. We must get all that we need today so we can spend our last day doing whatever we want," said Beatrice.

They would be leaving tomorrow evening so she wanted to get the shopping out of the way so everyone could relax on the final day before they needed to leave. Beatrice wanted more bags and shoes to add to her collection while Rafael and River normally enjoyed looking at the weapons being sold.

"Lady Callahan."

Annalise turned to her right where she heard Siena’s voice. Siena had a wonderful talent for finding the Callahans quickly. Annalise looked behind Siena at her maid and a guard. Seeing the man with his eyes lingering on River, Annalise wondered if he was here to guard Siena or use her to get close to the Callahans.

Annalise’s little trust in Siena started to waver. You could never be too careful.

"Siena," Beatrice said, staying beside River instead of going to greet Siena.

Despite the fact she invited Siena to go shopping with them, Beatrice was wary of the young lady since she couldn’t shake a bad feeling she got about Siena being from White town.

"I received your note this morning about the time and place to meet. Lady Everett says hello," Siena said as she drew closer to the group. She curtsied when she looked at River and smiled at Rafael. She then settled on Annalise who stood close to Rafael. She wondered if anything happened between the two after the ball.

"Remind me to send you back with a gift for Lady Everett. I must thank her for letting you join us today. We were just about to decide where we were going first. River, a moment alone please," Beatrice said, pulling him away from the group so she could ask him what he knew about Siena before she started asking Siena about her parents.

"My lady, you should go speak to him now," Kayla whispered. She was confused when Siena told her that she was giving up courting Rafael because he was interested in the maid beside him.

Siena always said that if Rafael wasn’t going to go through with the marriage she would work with him to get away from Travis and convince her father to move on. Kayla wanted Siena to be happy and have someone to love her, but with the dangerous game being played by Travis, she wanted Siena to be around Rafael since he seemed to be the only person able to protect her.

How was Siena to be protected by Rafael if Siena was distancing herself to not get in the way of Rafael and the maid?

Kayla gave the rude maid a lookover. What did Rafael see in the maid to pick her over Siena? Kayla did not understand. Siena was a young lady whom men should be fighting over. Kayla could not stomach that she lost Rafael to Annalise.

Siena ignored Kayla and walked over to Rafael and Annalise. The man with her was not loyal to her. He was one of the men she knew Travis sent to keep an eye on the Callahans. He showed up in the morning introducing himself as her guard and saying that she was not to go anywhere without him.

Now that she was close to the Callahans, Siena figured Travis’s men were making a move to use her.

Siena looked back at him to warn him not to get too close. He was still to act as a guard right now and give her some space. She wished she would have been the one to get Beatrice’s note because she would have kept meeting with them today a secret.

The note was taken straight to Lady Everett who handed it right over to Travis’s men.

Siena looked away from him and forced a smile when she neared Rafael. She hooked her hand with his to walk him. "It is important that we speak and you do not let him see you are close to Annalise. Please walk with me," Siena spoke quickly so she would not appear suspicious.

She glanced at Annalise who appeared unbothered by her closeness to Rafael. Perhaps Annalise overheard her or she simply did not care because Rafael only cared for Annalise. Siena hoped Annalise was able to hear her so it wouldn’t seem like she had lied about moving on from Rafael. This was to keep Annalise safe. Playing the role of being in love with Rafael so the guard would not notice Annalise.

Rafael wished he could go back in time to stop his mother from inviting Siena on the trip at first, but seeing the way she acted because of her guard, he was interested in what she had to say. The other two times he saw her, there wasn’t a single guard in sight, but now on an outing with his family, she had a guard.

Rafael looked at Annalise first to make sure she was alright with him walking with Siena so they could talk. She turned her body to back Siena’s guard and showed him a smile to answer that she was fine with it. He didn’t know for how long she would be fine with it because of her jealousy last night at the ball so he was going to make his conversation with Siena quick.

Rafael led Siena away, acting as if he was catching up with his parents so they could talk.

’Why is this happening already?’ Annalise wondered, ticked off that Rafael was already escorting Siena. What added to her being annoyed was the sound of Siena’s maid clapping her hands excitedly.

"You should calm down," Annalise said before Kayla could start jumping up and down out of excitement.

Kayla frowned, disliking that she would be left with the woman ruining everything. She was certain that if Annalise wasn’t around, Siena and Rafael would fall in love. "How can I be calm when my lady is walking, holding hands with Rafael Callahan? They look perfect for each other, don’t they? There is no better woman suited for him."

Annalise folded her lips to stop herself from ruining Kayla’s dreams by telling her where the very hand Siena was holding onto right now was last night. It would be a cruel thing to do.

Annalise started to walk to follow Rafael so she wouldn’t spend a lot of time beside Kayla.

Unbeknownst to Annalise, two men in the market were watching her.
