Chapter 218: Answer (2)

"I’m afraid I must depart now or I will have Lady Everett worrying about me. We are to head out to find a dress for me to wear to your ball. I hope to hear from you soon for what time we shall meet at the ball," Siena said to Rafael as she stood up.

Real or not, she was going to make good use of her time with him.

Wendy stood to walk Siena out of her home and see her off.

Beatrice bid Siena goodbye and stayed back so she could have a word with her son. "What are you thinking to say yes to take her to Wendy’s ball? Did you hit your head and forget that you like Annalise? Did I ruin that when I caught the two of you in the garden?"

"You didn’t-"

"So why are you taking another woman to a ball? I told you not to play with anyone," Beatrice said, starting to feel like it was what he was doing. "You can’t be doing things that most wouldn’t do with their servants and then taking a young lady like Siena to a ball. How do you expect Annalise to feel?"

"Hopefully jealous," Rafael replied. "That would mean she feels something for me, right?"

"What?" Beatrice asked, confused as to what he was trying to get at.

"I still like Annalise, mother. I am not playing with her feelings. Instead, I am trying to show that she might have feelings for me," said Rafael.

"You are trying to make her jealous? Why is that always your solution?" Beatrice asked, picking up the cushion behind her to throw at Rafael. "Making someone jealous on purpose is downright evil. How would you like it if Annalise were to start showing an interest in Logan? It is a terrible feeling for the person who has to look at the person they like with someone else."

Rafael didn’t want to say out loud how it would make him feel. He knew what his mother was getting at, but he would keep going around in circles with Annalise if he did not do something like this to get her riled up.

"You have nothing to be concerned about. Just give Annalise and me some space on this trip. You should be more concerned about where my father is hiding this time," Rafael said, turning his attention back to the window.

"There are so many things I want to say to you and when the time is right we will need to have a proper talk. You will need to have one with your father too, but as of right now, I am just happy to see that you have someone who can make you look out that window so much. Annalise will be fine out there. What could she possibly do to hurt herself?" Beatrice asked.

"You’d be surprised at what could happen when you take your eyes off of her. I’m worried she will find a pet to keep in her room and it will end up escaping to scare you," Rafael replied, tapping his fingers on the armrest of his chair. He thought of going back outside to bring Annalise inside.

"What kind of pet could she possibly have to scare me?" Beatrice inquired, enjoying the sight of Rafael worrying. It is rare that she got to see this side of him concerning a woman. His relationships were always a secret.

Beatrice found this to be a perfect example of how the perfect person would change you. Bring out a side of you that you never knew you had. She didn’t know what she would do to get River and the knights away from Annalise and Rafael, but she was going to find a way to get them to enjoy time alone.

"You know you can always come to me if you need help courting a woman."

Rafael chuckled, shaking his head at his mother’s words. "I have never needed help to court a woman. I have my ways and I know how to make Annalise open up to me more. I have to make her angry. And father has long talked to me about women during a trip we took without you."

"I know. I told him that you will grow to be a curious man just like everyone else and you must know how to control the new feelings you will experience. He had to spend so much time in the palace and I started to worry that I would need to be the one to explain it to you. Thank goodness your father returned to speak with you," Beatrice sighed in relief.

Rafael would have preferred if his father didn’t try to tell him what he already knew. It started off as an awkward conversation and to save himself, his father started to make jokes.

"I have seen her off," Wendy said, interrupting their conversation. "It appears our husbands have gone pretending to clear a tree that fell. You can go find them if you want, Rafael. I know that our conversation tends to become boring."

Rather than leaving to find his father, Rafael stood so he could leave to find a better window to look out to find Annalise.

"Siena is a wonderful girl. I am sure you will enjoy your time with her. She let it slip that she is from White town-"

"White town," Beatrice said, looking at Rafael who had to know what was on her mind right now.

White town was the town Beatrice was originally from. It was where her parents were at the moment and where she wished her brother would return to.

"Yes. I found it interesting that she is from the same town as you so that is part of why I wanted her to stay for the two of you to meet. Maybe you know her parents and you can ask her what became of your parents, Beatrice. When we see her again, we must ask about your family. Did I say something wrong?" Wendy asked, reaching over to touch Beatrice’s hand.

Rafael stopped in the doorway for a few seconds before continuing to leave. Siena showing up at his competition and now being here felt forced and now thanks to Wendy, he had an answer to why she might be here.

He was still looking for the young woman his foolish uncle thought he was going to marry. He had someone looking into the young women who came to town at the same time his uncle started to cause trouble.

Rafael had never seen Siena before she showed up at the competition and it was no coincidence that she was from the same town his mother grew up in. She had to be the young lady his uncle was trying to get him to marry for whatever reason.

Rafael stopped at a window where he could finally see Annalise again. She walked back and forth in front of a tree seemingly talking to herself. His plan to make her jealous had so much more to it now since the next time he came across Siena, he was going to get the truth out of her.
