The Knight's Mysterious Maid-Chapter 217: Answer (1)
Chapter 217: Answer (1)
"I’ve sent the butler to get some drinks for our husbands. I hope he can find them. You know how they get," Wendy chuckled.
Beatrice had a feeling that the two men were somewhere in the garden hiding and were going to send the butler away. "They have a lot to catch up on. Your house looks wonderful," Beatrice said, looking around at the new touches Wendy made.
"I got a little carried away with changing around furniture. The town isn’t as exciting as it was when I was younger so all I can do to pass the time is decorate. It would be wonderful if you took my advice to move here. Rafael," Wendy said, turning to face Rafael who not long joined them. "There is plenty of land for you to have your knights stay."
"As of right now, I have no plans of moving the knights. The manor is enough and I am already moving forward to expand it to offer more knights shelter. It is only my mother you need to convince to stay here," Rafael replied, looking out the open window.
Wendy wished it was that easy. "Now you know that your mother will not move far away from you. I’ve spent years trying to convince her to move here, but I have not had any luck. Have you thought about where you will settle when your years as a knight end?"
"I don’t think that far into the future. I like to focus on right now," Rafael answered. He wasn’t worried about the future like others. Wherever he was meant to be after putting down his sword would happen on its own.
"Won’t you miss me if I was to move far away from you?" Beatrice asked. She liked how close they were so she could see Rafael often.
Rafael travelled a lot so living near to him guaranteed she was going to see him a few times when he was home.
"Yes," Rafael answered honestly. "But it is quiet and more suited for you here. If you ever want to move, do it. I will travel to visit you."
"How kind of you. Unfortunately, I like where I am with River right now. We’ve spent years putting the garden together and I don’t want to start over again. Perhaps when we’re a little older we will move to somewhere quiet, but not right now," Beatrice said.
Beatrice and River had moved around so often when they first married until they settled on the manor they eventually gave to Rafael and now they had a beautiful home.
"Then I will wait for you to change your mind. Tomorrow I will join you to visit the orphanage. The children have been excited to see you again Rafael. They’ve been questioning the orphanage owners over and over again about when you and your father would come. It would be nice if you take your knights and put on a little show for them," Wendy suggested.
The children needed a bit of fun these days.
"It sounds like all of you visit this orphanage often," Siena said, intrigued by this. Everything she heard about Rafael made him sound like a wonderful man and it wasn’t an act that he was kind.
There was so much about Rafael and his family she wanted to learn about. Siena squeezed her fingers, upset with Travis soon interrupting their peaceful days. Only the engagement happening would make him happy and then she noticed that he was awful when speaking about Beatrice like he had plans for him to disappear.
"I once lived at the orphanage along the River. It will always be a special place in our hearts. I host an annual ball to get money to help the orphanage get everything it needs for the children. You must attend," Wendy said, enjoying the sight of Rafael and Siena together.
She wanted the two close despite the fact that Beatrice said there was someone Rafael liked and she might soon get to plan a wedding. Siena was a good young woman that should not slip away. Wendy was still curious about the maid, but it wouldn’t hurt to push him with another young person since it didn’t seem like he had a relationship with the maid.
"I love children and if you don’t mind, I would love to join you to visit the children," said Siena.
Rafael peered out the window to try spotting Annalise to make sure she had not gone too far. All the creatures in the garden should keep her busy, but he didn’t want her to get so distracted that she walked where the knights could not see her.
"You can. You will also need an escort to my ball. You are coming, aren’t you? I’ve already sent an invitation to Lady Everett. Please tell me you will still be here," Wendy said, hoping Siena would say yes. Rafael needed someone by his side at the ball or the young women would swarm him and he would leave. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
"I will still be here to attend your ball. I am looking forward to it. I will be there with Lady Everett and her husband. I hope you can introduce me to nice men that you know who are yet to wed," Siena said.
Wendy looked at Rafael. "Rafael is without a partner unless there is something that his mother and I are missing. The two of you should come together."
Beatrice tapped Wendy’s leg to stop her. "That won’t be necessary. I have more to tell you," she whispered so Rafael, who was distracted by looking out the window, wouldn’t hear her.
There wasn’t a need for Rafael to have Siena by his side when Annalise was here. A nice dress and some of the jewellery Beatrice owned would have Annalise ready for the ball. Siena going with Rafael would just ruin whatever was starting to grow between him and Annalise. She could not have that.
"I will take her to the ball," Rafael said, looking away from the window to his mother.
Siena stared at Rafael, certain she heard him wrong that he was going to take her. She looked at Beatrice and Wendy to see if they had also heard it and from their surprised expressions, they also heard Rafael say that he was taking her.
Siena felt something off about him agreeing to this now after being not happy to see her standing before him when he arrived. Then there was the maid he obviously liked. She knew that it wouldn’t be proper for him to walk around with the maid, but Siena thought he would just not attend the ball with anyone since he could not have the woman he loved by his side.
’Is he using me?’ Siena wondered. He had to be planning something by taking her to the ball. Perhaps he was trying to figure out who kept sending her in front of him. Whatever it was that he was doing since he wasn’t being sincere in asking her to the ball, she needed something out of this.
It was nearing time for her to tell him that they were to marry while Travis wasn’t around. His little followers were present, but Siena knew there was a small chance for her to speak with Rafael as they danced. She could do it now, but she didn’t want to upset Beatrice by mentioning her brother.
"Then it’s settled," Wendy clapped her hands. She didn’t need to worry about Rafael running off because young ladies looking to marry were surrounding him.
Beatrice did not share Wendy’s excitement. If not for Annalise, she would have. How could Rafael go from lying around with Annalise to agreeing to take Siena to the ball when it seemed like he didn’t like the young woman?
