The Greatest Mecha-Chapter 57: Back To Work
Chapter 57: Back To Work
After the departure of the battleship Alto spent a few more days in the med bay, getting constant visits from old friends and new alike. Despite the slight boost in attention he was given Alto wanted to be alone for most of the time, he was a bit surprised that the professor did not come to see him once but it was something he expected from her.
In the times when he was alone he would spend it within the virtual mech designer workshop of the game mech galaxy wars trying to refine his skills as best as he could.
He logged into his account and started looking inspecting his first attempt at making the light mech version of the Febwick-720 he had dubbed the white blade. He could now see all the mistakes he had made on it clearly, he knew if he was to update it, it would cost just as much as creating another mech so he chose not to. He wanted to work on another type of mech.
Alto noticed a message on his inbox, it was a review in his mech made by the only person who purchased it. Alto gulped down as he prepared himself mentally for the cursed the buyer would rain down on his head but to his surprise he was given a five star review. "Why would I be given a five star review? Either this person is oblivious to the faults of the mech or he’s naive and new to the role. Still I can have my say till I see what he has to say about my mech."
He tapped read the review under the rating:
THE DARK SAINT: GREAT MECH, I REALLY LOVED IT BUT AFTER SOME RESEARCH I FOUND OUT ITS REALLY BELOW MY EXPECTATION. IT WAS FUN WHILE IT LASTED, NOT MANY PEOPLE CAN BUILD A GOOD FIRST MECH SO I HOPE THIS DOESN’T DISCOURAGE YOU.
Alto was a bit moved by the genuine sense he got from the message though he hated the sympathy. He hated being pitied though something about the buyer made him feel happy, the fact that he had fun while using it. Alto typed in his reply on the virtual keyboard that appeared over his wrist comm device.
THE DISCIPLE: I APPRECIATE YOUR FEEDBACK AND HAVE TAKEN STEPS TO ADDRESS THE MATTER. IF YOU ARE STILL INTERESTED IN MY WORKS I WILL BE INTRODUCING A MORE CAPABLE MECH FOR SALE SOON.
Despite the fact that he was told to rest, Alto felt very much rested. He got off his bed and chased every inch of the room as best as he could for hidden bugs or cameras, whenever it came to the matters of the mech designer protocol he was extra antsy. After confirming that there was nothing in his room he proceeded to activate the mech designer system.
"Hello mecha how have you been?" He asked the system after confirming that he had received no new missions or rewards, as always the system was silent. "Can you look up old mech models for me, the oldest cheapest ones you can find? It’s time to make an investment."
The mech designer protocol whirred to life a blue screen materialising above it and images of multiple mechs phasing throught it took fast for his eyes to follow. Alto did not know why the system did not complain this time when it came to this matter whereas when it came to actually information that seemed useful it would put a cap on it. Nonetheless, as much as he wanted to work grade C mech design he had gotten from the system a while back he had an inkling of a thought.
He wanted to make an acquaintance of Mister E who he believed to be high up in some form of power. Alto knew how very little he knew about the world due to his poor education but after taking one look at the professor and the general he had angered he realised that he needed a backing, someone powerful. And this was what mister E proved the moment he gave away a lot of money like it was nothing. And he did not sound much older than he was, Alto guessed that he might be an aristocrat. The noble families who garnered much wealth and power, they were also known to have invested in some of the most successful mech business in the galaxy. They always yearned for control and with that led the need to invest in the biggest thing in human history, that being mechs.
Alto did not think he would get close to this Mister E anytime soon, for all he knew Mister E might already be investiging in an actual mech designing company so why would he need a line upcoming mech designer?
All these were facts he had taken to mind, Alto simply wanted to get closer to Mister E, he knew that with the help of the mech designer protocol and perhaps the support of the professor’s status he might be something big in future and soon too. But surely there was no way he would be revealing his identity to mister E just yet, if his plan failed he would be making easy money too.
The mech designer protocol came up with not one but fifteen mech designs from the old era, to any mech designer they were trash but in Alto’s eyes he was seeing gold, a practical goldmine.
Somewhere across the star system was a massive silver mansion, that hovered a thousand feet from the surface of the planet. It looked like a glowing star as it took a similar shape to it. Within it were many workers from mech pilots to house helps to tech analyst’s and finally the residents of the house.
A young man with silver hair and fades walked forward, he wore a pristine white sit with gold coloured shoes, on one ear was two good earrings carrying his family crest. His face bright and handsome, he walked with purpose towards the door to greet a beautiful young woman with long dark braided hair, exotic clothing. She looked like a princess ripped out of a fantasy novel with striking features and pale skin.
Seeing the young man she pouted her lips and gave him an angry stare. The young man waved off his guards and eyed her with pleasure, "Sophina, you look as radiant as ever."
Sophina walked past him in annoyance, "Some boyfriend you turned out to be, you have all the money and all the time and yet you can come to see me even once."
The young man chuckled as he walked behind her, his presence exuding confidence. "Time is one thing I do have but it’s precious that’s why I choose now to spend it with you. It’s not like I had much of a choice with the family selection thing coming up and my father wanting to see me in some shiny new mech."
Sophina’s countenance radiated as her face softened. "Edrin I’m sorry if I’m taking up your time, it’s just that I haven’t seen you lately so I’ve been worried."
Edrin laughed as he put his arm around her waist and pulled her in for a soft kiss on the lips. He pulled away shortly after and said. "It’s no worry babe, I’m glad you dropped by."
Their conversation went stale shortly after, Sophina chimed in with a chirpy voice. "So what has my baby boo been working on recently?"
Edrin’s face darkened as he spoke. "I’ve been trying to cut a deal with some investors but it’s not been as pleasant. Any news from your father, I hear his ship had a challenge."
Sophina grimaced at the thought of it. "I don’t even want to talk about that man, I wonder if all generals as so much of a devout to their duties that they actually forget they have families that exist."
Edrin laughed and sniffed her hair which carries a beautiful fragrance. "General Duncan has always been like a rock, I mean I only met him once and I got cold feet. But I have to put up with it if he’s going to be my father in law one day."
Sophina smiled. "Can we talk about something else?"
He pretended to be serious, "Sure, what about?"
Sophina was happy that the direction of their conversation had shifted, she had always loved that about Edrin. Though he was a playboy that annoyed many, and was arrogant in a manner. He was also heartwarming and tried to understand the feelings of those he cared with. They had only first met each other at an event where his father met her father, and shortly after they started seeing each other. Edrin in his goofy but fun nature approached her, at first she dismissed him but slowly she could see the same lonely image of herself in him. And they bonded over time.
Before their conversation could progress further one of Edrin’s butlers, the chief butler infact approached him.
Edrin frowned and stared daggers at him, "What the fuck, I said I don’t want to be interrupted today. It’s all about my beautiful lily here."
The chief butler cleared his throat, instead of apologizing he said a few simple words. "It’s for your sir."
Edrin groaned outwardly, his face written with frustration. "What the fuck did I just say."
"It’s Bob sir, I believe he had business that needs attending to." The butler said.
In that moment Sophina saw Edrin’s face light up like never before at the mention of the name, he even seemed eager to answer the call that he forgot her. She knew there were only two things that could make him so excited, the first was his love for antic items and the second being his interest in kaijus. But who was this "Bob"?
