The Greatest Mecha-Chapter 33: Hard At Work
Chapter 33: Hard At Work
Alto did not have any chance but to create an account in the game, though it was not recommended it was his only option. Aside from the account that contained the in-game currency, real money could be stored in a separate account like an in-game bank. Alto made up his mind to open an online bank account later, after he had concluded the transaction with Mister E and received his payment, his client was still not done with him.
It did not take long for Mister E to confirm the authenticity of the product, apparently there were many fake versions of old gen mechs this made Mister E interested in him. His client ended up giving Alto (Bob) his private contact in the eventuality that he came across another old gen mech design.
Alto did not turn down such and interesting offer to make free money, he could just have the mech designer protocol search for another degraded washed up model sometime in the future.
Now with the money in hand, Alto tried to use it sparingly, he converted a little amount of it to credits which he used to buy the mech plates he would use to fortify the mech design.
Alto tried to manage his resources but after a lot of refitting he found it best to not cut corners, he eventually bought ten pieces of the compact mech armour plate for 50000 credits. He never knew making a virtual mech was an expensive act, after acquiring the mech plates he knew the weight of the mech would be increased slightly but it would not reduce it’s speed by much. It was an improvement over the previous poorly constructed design.
After addressing the problem of the design model and the resources Alto started to focus on weapons, he knew the mech would have to be armed with one eventually and since he took out it’s shoulder mounted lasers he knew he would have to compensate for it somehow.
He wanted to equip a melee weapon like a sword at first but paused after a bit of consideration, he realised that he had no weapon optimization skill of any level.
So he looked up what he could on weapons and mechs with how the players felt using them. As he suspected light mechs were known to use melee weapons like swords, daggers, but more conventional weapons like laser pistols and plasma rifles were used too.
Alto did not know how using a melee weapon would fare in a battle so he chose to leave that for last. Or maybe not. The more he thought about it the more he was confused on what weapon to equip into his light mech.
Just then there was a light knock on his door. Alto raised his head and stared at it, he then looked at the back up food left behind by Eleven and wondered if he was the one who came to visit him. There was no one else that came to mind.
He proceeded to ask the system how long he had been working on the mech design, "Hey, mecha. How long has it been since you gave me the quest."
It projected the time he had spent before his face.
[3 Days, 15hrs, 30min, 46sec]
Alto groaned as he rose to his feet and stretched his tired muscles, they felt on the verge of popping out. "I wonder if this is how long it really takes to work on a mech." The knocking persisted so he hurriedly washed his face before going to answer the door.
He reached the door and opened it up, on the other side was a face he had never seen. He had expected Eleven to be the one to answer the door but it was a totally new face.
It was a young woman. Around his height, she had one of the most beautiful faces he had ever seen. Rounded cheeks, expressive blue eyes, short blond hair with a kittie hairpin. She wore a black uniform unlike any he had ever seen before, it did not seem like it was from the mech division.
The beautiful young woman in entirety looked like an angel and she smelled funny, she smiled and spoke in a sweet voice. "Hello, excuse me."
Alto could not help but smile as she spoke to him, his heart thumped rhythmically. "Yes hello, I don’t think I’ve seen you here before."
The beautiful woman raised a questioning eyebrow further enhancing her features. He could see she had a very distinct earring, it had a very strange symbol on it. But he was more focused on her face.
"Yes, I’m kinda new here. Five days ago we came here, from the damaged battleship. I thought everyone was notified." She spoke.
Alto then recalled that was the moment he went into his seclusion, it was when the professor had given him the gaming account. He wondered how she was doing and why she never came to see him, but then again she never cared if any of her disciples came or not. But it did not stop him from thinking what she would think about his absence.
But why would this beautiful young woman be here? And did that also mean that there were similar uniformed men walking around, how much had changed while he had locked himself away?
Alto focused back on the woman before him and spoke. "Yes, I was. I’ve been working all this while so I haven’t left my room."
The young woman smiled a very heartwarming smile that took him by surprise. "Actually I and my colleague here have been bored since we’ve only recently been released from detention. So we need directions to the training room for the mech pilots."
Alto raised and eyebrow at the mention of the word colleague. He looked to the side to see another figure. This one was a young man with a punk-style hair cut. He was much taller than Alto and he looked muscular, he wore the same similar uniform as she did, only that he had his jacket unzipped to show the black top he had underneath.
He had his arms crossed and his back to the wall, Alto could see he was darker skinned and did not look as welcoming as the young woman.
"And who are you exactly?" Alto said as he looked at the young man for a little bit before turning back to her.
She smiled and said. "We are first grade officers who were part of a training regiment on the ship we were on, I’m Marie Hanswith and this is my junior Kendell Brist. We were really lost so could you tell us how to get to the training room, I hear the new first grade officers train there."
Alto took a moment to ponder on that before coming to a conclusion. "I could direct you but you’ll just get lost, so why don’t I lead you guys?"
Marie looked both excited and confused at the same time, "But wouldn’t we be a bother to you? I thought you had something going on."
As much as Alto wanted to continue his work he knew he would soon run out of food. Aside from that fact he wanted some time away from his work, a bit of time would help him cool off his head.
Alto looked at Marie then Kendall then back at Marie again before saying. "I need to get provisions so it’s no big deal, also I have some questions I have to ask you. Could you give me a minute to freshen up."
Marie almost jumped for joy, but she didn’t. The expression was clear on her face. "No problem, we’ll be waiting here."
Alto went back into his room and managed to do the most ridiculous form of "cleaning up", within a few minutes he was out and dressed in another of his own mech designer uniform. He met the two still waiting for him and accompanied them to the training room where the first grade officer would be training. On the way Alto planned to ask them the question that had been bothering him earlier.
