Chapter 32: The Angle

Alto had just been asked the most ridiculous question yet, what was his angle but what did that really mean. What did angles have to do with selling old mech designs.

The voice on the other hand laughed in a softly, "What’s your fling, your game plan. Of I see it now, you are a very amusing businessman who butters up his customers. I have to admit it’s not bad but you will have to try better."

Alto was not even trying anything and this young man whoever he was was already dictating the pace of their conversation. Alto wanted nothing more than to be done with this person, he did not want to say a word more but this person apparently liked to talk a lot.

"I apologize for being a bit hasty but can we get this business transaction on the way, please." He hoped his client would consent.

The person on the other end sighed and then said. "You intrigued me Bob, can I call you Bob." Before Alto could object the person continued. "You seem like a Bob, so I’ll call you Bob. First you try to butter me and now you want to be done with me, but I feel you."

"No, if you really feel me then we’d be done with this foolish discussion and talk business already." Alto kept his own comments reserved within his inner voice.

The voice continued, "You can call me mister E for now. So here I was having a hot bath and one of my men tells me they saw your offer. You want to sell not one, not two but three prehistoric designs."

Alto was finally glad that they were back on page, he tried to sound more business minded and strict also while keeping his made up accent up. "Yes."

Mister E continued. "I noticed you set your price as negotiable, might I ask why you made this decision. I believe any real salesman would have put a price at least."

"Oh that, I like to let my clients take the reins before I initiate my price." The real reason Alto chose not to put a price was because the designs were old and he was not expecting to make much from them, he did not want to scare off potential customers with his unusual pricing. But there was no way he would tell his client that.

Mister E exclaimed on the other end. "Ah! That sounds smart, you test your clients the way I test my sellers."

Alto’s eyes widened at the thought that he was being tested also, sure enough he knew his client was strange but who would even test the seller. Alto was grateful that it was not a video call, that way no one would see how rough and dirty he looked.

Since his client seemed to be a person who seemed to like interesting conversations Alto decided to try something. "So what’s your angle mister E?"

From the other end there was a long silence that made Alto hold his breath to hear his client breathing but there was nothing. A drop of sweat trickled down the side of Alto’s forehead, a while later the silence was disrupted by Mister E’s laughter. He seemed very pleased by what had been displayed by Alto.

"That was sick, Bob. I see you’re a player. Five questions, I ask you answer. Ready, start!" Mister E was initiating something that Bob was not prepared for.

Alto screamed. "Wait, what now?"

But Mister E was clearly starting something new without his consent as usual. "Medium mech or heavy mech."

"I don’t know, medium?" Alto almost stammered but he managed to answer the question just in time.

The next few questions came at rapid succession and he barely had any time to answer one before his client would initiate the next one. Alto did not have any breathing space as he answered each question, he expected them to be about the business they had together but instead they grew more and more bizarre.

"Taxes or charity?"

"I don’t really pay taxes thought."

"Four wheeler or hover car?"

"I think I would rather be closer to the earth."

"Big boobs or little boobs?"

"What? Why-- big maybe."

"Square or rectangle?"

"Squares equal on all sides so I’ll go with that."

By the end Mister E was laughing his head off and Alto was left on his end wondering what type of maniac did business like this. He was already getting irritated.

"Last question." Mister E was happy to initiate another discussion. "What’s your lady type."

Alto felt like smashing his wrist comm device on the ground but he did not, he sighed. He knew he was losing time but he needed some source of income if he was to push his work even further. "Strong capable type, I guess."

It did not take long for his client to respond to him. "I like you Bob, so about the mech designs." Alto was taken back by how quick his client had changed gears so quickly. His business mode felt more mature than his playful mode, he wondered if this person was operating on some type of auto dial function. "I collect old generation mech designs, they may be worthless but the fact that they are hard to find and almost nearly impossible makes them valuable to me. You having three of them is good news, if I buy them off your hand I can design the mechs and put it in a display case somewhere."

Alto raised his eyebrow at the mention of those words, the mechs were practically inoperable. He did not really understand the meaning of holding something so outdated in a display case unless for publicity purposes.

"So I’ll be buying all three of them for 5 million darn." freewebnoveℓ.com

Darn was the currency spent in there star system but Alto had yet to have even a single darn in his account so having to be recieving such a massive amount shocked him.

"What! Isn’t that a bit--" before he could finish Mister E was speaking again.

"Alright 9 million and that’s final. I noticed you did not put up an account, where do I transfer?" Mister E sounded so casual even knowing that such an amount would leave his account.

Alto was shocked and speechless, he could only envy how the rich were willing to throw amounts of money freely. But then a question struck him, "Account? I don’t even have a bank account."
