Chapter 79: Chapter 79

It amused her for some reason and that made Sereia begin to sob, whimpering in so much pain that was almost equalling to hers. She could feel every tinge of pain Alexis felt.

"W-whoever did it, we’ll find them kid, a-a-and I’ll kill them in the most brutal way for you. I’ll make them pay."

"Reia..." Alexis breathed softly and opened her arms to her. "Come."

Sereia sobbed harder, moving into her arms. Alexis wrapped her arms around her in a deep hug and buried her face in her warm furs. "I missed you..."

"I missed you too, kid. I’m so sorry that I was gone—I’m sorry that I left you. I didn’t mean to."

Alexis tightened her hold on her. "You feel weak...Reia. Your frame looks...tired." Her voice sounded painfully rough and almost no longer there. "You’re not going to leave me too, are you?"

"Kid—"

"Are you dying?" She pulled back to look into her golden eyes with sadness burrowing in her stare. "Is it because of me? Because I am unable to accommodate you? Am I killing you?"

"No, no! Alexis, what are you talking about? This has nothing to do with you!"

Alexis began to chuckle at herself. She threw her head back and sighed heavily. "Maybe I should just kill myself. This isn’t worth it...it isn’t."

"Yes, it is! Have you lost your mind!!!" Sereia snapped at her. "Kid, listen, look at me. Just listen to what I have to say. Please, look at me."

Her voice shook because she had begun crying all over again and that made Alexis pay attention to her.

"Reia..."

"Alexis, listen to me. Your mother has fought for you all her life. She wanted to see you live, to be happy no matter how cruel the world is to you. She never gave up—not once because of you. She abandoned the man she loved for you because you and only you mattered to her. You can’t kill yourself, you can’t give up, not now, and not ever, not after she’d tried her all to see you come this far."

"But what is the point...?" Alexis asked tiredly. "She left me. She promised she wouldn’t—that she would always be with me, but she left me without even saying goodbye to me. I didn’t get to hear her voice or feel her warmth; I didn’t get to see her smile. What is the point? Why exactly do I have to live? What is going to make me happy—"

"Killing the person who did this to her with your very own hands. That will make you happy!" Sereia said, "We won’t let them off, we’re not going to let them get away with it, Alexis. They’ll pay for what they did to your mother and until we do that, you do not get to say you don’t want to live anymore, you do not get to give up on your life, do you understand me?"

Alexis stared at her. "I..."

"Do you understand me, Alexis?!"

She hesitated but slowly nodded. "Not until...I kill them with my own hands."

"Exactly. Until then, we cannot give up on life! We’ll live, okay?"

"Okay..." She gave a nod. "Okay."

Sereia curled up around her. "I love you, kid. And mind you, you’re the first person I

I’ve said this too. That makes you very special to me. I’m here for you, and I’ll always be. You and me, always, together, in everything and not even a different timeline can change that."

Alexis curled up on the floor with her, her arms thrown over her warm furs and holding on tightly. She slept off before she knew it, and by the time she woke up again, it was already very early in the morning.

Despite the closed curtain, some light was pouring in through the window.

Alexis stood to her feet and so did Sereia. She walked to the window and pulled the curtain apart before proceeding to open the window.

Cold breeze poured into the room immediately, causing her to shiver, but she didn’t close it back.

Instead, she turned around and made her way into the bathroom and proceeded to brush and take her bath. She changed into a pair of her working suit and headed out to the bed to sit down and wear her shoes.

"Are you going to work today?"

"Yes, why?"

"Kid, are we in a good headspace for that?"

"Does it matter? Questions will be asked when I start skipping work, one way or the other, they will find out what I have with Keelion. Besides what good will sitting alone in here do? It would only make me think more. I’ll go to the hospital in the evening and see my mother."

Sereia stared at her. "Your calmness right now is honestly scaring me."

There was no response from her.

Alexis stood to her feet and with one last touch to her hair to somehow cover her puffy eyes a little bit, she left the room with Sereia and they headed off to the elevator.

However, when they stepped out of the elevator, she was met with Augustus, who stood in front of her. He asked, "Why are you here?"

"What do you mean?" She raised a brow at him.

Augustus let out a soft breath. "I know...what happened. You don’t need to come to work. I’ll explain things to others, so—"

"I’m fine." Alexis walked past him, making her way into the foyer where Lyndon and the rest already were. freeωebnovēl.c૦m

As usual, there Keelion was, coming right down from the flight of stairs. They bowed and greeted and then straightened up.

She never once looked at him, even though she knew he stared at her.

Sereia glanced between the both of them and watched as Keelion walked out of the foyer.

"Kid—"

"Everyone, let’s get to work. There is only a week left until the society gala. So please, let’s work harder than we did before," Lyndon said.

"YES, SIR!" Everyone shouted in unison and then proceeded to start their respective work.

Alexis did the same, walking over and picking up the box full of the decor floor curtains.

"Is he okay?" Lyndon asked as he stepped up beside Augustus. "He’s rather gloomy today. I mean I know he smiles a lot, but I haven’t seen a single smile on his face today. Do you know what happened?"

Augustus glanced at the shorter man, meeting the pink of his eyes, and shifted his gaze to Alexis. "No." He shook his head. "I don’t."
