The Alpha's Fated Mate Is an Outcast-Chapter 72
Chapter 72: Chapter 72
Althea slowly closed the door of Keelion’s office.
The man was seated at his desk, browsing through his work computer and stamping the stacked-up documents with his seal.
She approached him and instead of sitting on the chair, she sat on the desk which prompted Keelion to pause what he was doing and look at her.
"What are you doing?" he questioned with the most irritated expression on his face.
Althea shrugged. She crossed her legs with a flirty expression on her face and smirked at him. "I’m just curious if my coronation could be held much earlier."
"Meaning what?" He cocked a brow.
"I don’t know. In like a week or two." She glanced at her fingernails casually and shrugged again. "I mean I know it was originally going to be by the end of the month, but there shouldn’t be any harm in holding it much earlier. I just..."
She looked at him, eyes glassy and filled with admiration. "I am so eager to fully be yours and you...mine." Her lips stretched into a smile. "I want to have your mark on me and mine on you. I know I shouldn’t be so eager, but...I can’t help it."
Keelion stared at her and for a second what seemed like such disgust he couldn’t control flashed through the blues of his eyes. His jaw ticked lightly as if irritated and he looked away from her, pinching between his brows.
"I think you’re getting something wrong here, Althea," he said.
She looked at him with a curious look. "What...do you mean?"
Keelion stood up from his chair and walked over to her. "I’ve told you times without numbers, there is nothing—!" He snatched her hand and yanked her off his desk. "Between the both of us! You are just a substitute and nothing more. I don’t belong to you and neither am I yours. And concerning the coronation, who said I’ve made up my mind about it?"
"W-what...?" Althea blinked rapidly, now confused. "What are you talking about?"
"I never said that you’re getting coronated soon, not in a week, two, or even in a month. Nothing is happening until I’ve made up my mind! And let’s even say you are to be, who the fuck told you I would ever mark you? Who do you think you are to me?"
He snatched her by the chin. "Althea, you’re a substitute, nothing more than that, and I want you to keep that in mind! You’re not my mate, and I won’t ever mark you nor will you. Understood?"
"That makes no sense!" Althea snapped at him. "Fane, it’s been a year. What more of your mind is left to make up? What more do you have to think about? It’s not as if you are going to choose someone else," she said, but then paused. "Or...are you?"
Keelion didn’t respond.
Her eyes flickered. "You’ve got to be kidding me, Fane. What the fuck? Are you playing with me? Is this some sick fucking joke?!"
"I never said I’m going to choose anyone else," Keelion spoke calmly. "Get out of my office."
But Althea wouldn’t leave.
She puffed a soft breath and plucked her phone out of the pocket of her suit jacket. "You are so obsessed with that damn beta that can’t even be your Luna, is that it?" Her laughter was soft. "Well then, while you stay here obsessed with him, do you think he likes you in any way? I’m sorry to break it to you, but that obsession might just be interested in someone else!"
She pulled up the video she’d taken of Alexis and Kaelis that night and shoved it in his face. "Look at it! Don’t they look so intimate? Have you ever seen anything more intimate in this fucking mansion, huh?"
Keelion lowered his gaze to the videotape. The way Kaelis touched her... His expression didn’t change, instead, he slowly lifted his gaze to Althea.
She raised a brow at him. "Well?"
The man didn’t say a word and instead took the phone from her. Right in front of her eyes, he broke it into two with a single grip. Then he gave it back to her and leaned in enough to say, "Don’t ever show me shit like this again. Because the next time you do...I don’t know what I would do to you. And you’d have to understand how far you would possibly have to go to ever make me hurt an omega."
"Get out of my office," he ordered. But she stalled. "Now!"
Althea jolted. She blinked at him and quickly rushed out of the office, closing the door behind her.
Keelion stared into space and lowered his gaze to the glass of water on his desk. He grabbed it and shattered it against the wall. Then he threw his head back to stare at the glass ceiling.
[We can’t let her go, Keelion. You and I need Alexis. You aren’t even yourself without her. You and I, we are not]
He pinched the bridge of his nose and sat into his office leather chair. "We’ll be fine. You and I survived twelve years without a mate, we’ll be fine."
[No, we’ll not. It was different when we didn’t know she existed, but now we do. She’s in our literal grasp. Keelion, you—]
"Just shut it, Nyx!" he snapped and buried his face in his palms. "Alexis belongs to us and that is never going to change, but I can’t truly make her ours, because it could cost her life—"
[Lies! You know damn well that if we decide to protect her, no one and I mean no one will touch her. If we said no one would lay a finger on her, no one would. Keelion, what are you doing? Why can’t we keep her? Or...is it that you think she’s not good enough for us because of what she is...? Is that it?]
"Just...get out of my head, Nyx—"
[No I won’t. She’s our mate and it’s our job to protect her, to own her like she should be. But you want to abandon her!]
Keelion furiously ran his fingers through his hair. "You don’t know anything. You understand nothing nor how conflicting this entire situation is. You are not the one leading thousands and having to consider every single word they say."
[And since when have you? Keelion, when you decide on something, you do it whether your people agree with you or not. It is what has gotten them here, to this point where this pack is known for being the strongest. Because you do not let people’s words decide your decision. You know what you want, what’s best and you stick to it. Why is it different with Alexis, now?]
Keelion didn’t answer.
His wolf sighed. [Keelion, we have to keep her. I don’t care how we do it, but we have to. We will do it]
Keelion didn’t say a word and Nyx took his silence as a yes. An agreement to his words.freeweɓnovel.cѳm
