Chapter 59: Chapter 59

"I’m sorry, I really didn’t mean to," Alexis began begging, cupping her hands at him. "I hadn’t meant to hurt her. It was—-"

"Who are you?"

That momentarily made her pause, eyes fluttering in confusion. "Huh? W-what do you mean?"

"Keelion Fane that I know is a man who would never let you off for putting your hand on a woman, on an omega as a beta. But he hasn’t done anything, said a word, or even visited Althea. Don’t you think something is off?" Augustus slammed both hands on the wall on either side of her head. "I told you that I didn’t care what relationships you had with him, but I also didn’t want you putting him on the spot."

Alexis swallowed.

"Do you know what will happen if words get out there of what had happened? His substitute mate was harmed by a beta, and the alpha is instead protecting the beta? Even if not to his face, they will criticize him, they will doubt him regardless of how he’d never given them a reason to doubt him for eighteen years and counting."

"Alexis," he snatched her by the jaw, very roughly that she winced, face contorted in pain. "What exactly do you think you are doing? What stupid game are you playing? Do you have Keelion Fane under some kind of spell? Why the fuck is he so obsessed with you?"

"Please, let go. It hurts!" she snatched him by the wrist to get him to let go.

"It hurts? Aren’t you a beta?" the man scoffed. "Keelion Fane is not a man who would ever have an obsession over anyone, not even if it was the most beautiful omega to ever be born. You’re a sight for the eye, it’s even bizarre, but still. He loses his mind and sense of judgment whenever it has to do with you and I don’t think you realize the sort of issue that is. He’s an alpha, a supreme alpha, obsession—"

Wetness had already begun to pool in Alexis’s eyes. His grip on her jaw had tightened so achingly painful and his fingers were excruciatingly digging into her skin, creating a kind of pain she couldn’t stomach. "It hurts...please, please let go."

"Why is he so obsessed with you?" Augustus bit out in such a harsh tone, that she flinched, squeezing her eyes shut. "It makes no sense, more so that you’re a beta. The alpha has never been interested in betas, so what is it about you? Why are you an exception?" His eyes scrutinized her from head to toe. He cackled. "Unless...you’re not a beta..."

Those few sentences quickly prompted Alexis to snap her eyes open. "Sir Augustus, w-what are you saying?"

"Are you truly a beta, or an omega, Alexis?"

"I’m a beta!" she fumed at him, beginning to panic inwardly. "If I am not a beta, what else would I be? I don’t have a scent, you—"

"Open your shirt then," he demanded.

"What?" Alexis stared at him like he’d lost his mind.

"If you’re a beta like you claim to be, surely you wouldn’t have a problem proving it, would you?"

"That’s still inappropriate. It doesn’t—"

"You and I are both men here. I don’t see what you’re afraid of."

She breathed heavily.

"Sir Augustus, I’m really going to have to go now." She turned before he could respond, proceeding to storm off, to get out of the situation. Augustus however snatched her by the arm and slammed her back against the wall.

He grasped both hands with extreme strength, pinning it above her head, then he tore away at the suit jacket, the buttons flying off.

"No, stop, let go! Augustus stop." She’d begun crying at this point. "Stop please."

"I’m not going to hurt you. I simply want to confirm my suspicion and that’s it. Quit crying." He glared at her, and snatched the collar of her shirt, drawing the tie apart. He reached for the first buttons of the shirt, flipping it open enough that the second buttons popped open.

He proceeded to keep going, grabbing and about to tear the entire thing off, but then a shadow loomed above the both of them, and Augustus suddenly felt his hand grasped, sets of stronger fingers curling around his fingers in such excruciatingly painful manner. ƒrēenovelkiss.com

He turned his head and his eyes trembled at the sight of Keelion who stood, no tinge of the blue of his eyes in sight.

"Sir," Augustus mumbled and immediately proceeded to step away from Alexis. "It’s not what you think. I wasn’t—-"

"I didn’t ask you anything, Augustus," Keelion hummed, black eyes as frightening as his calm. "And I don’t want to hear even a groan from you." He began slowly and intentionally twisting Augustus’s left wrist until the man’s face turned so red in pain—until Alexis could hear the pop as his wrist broke.

Still, Augustus didn’t make a sound like he’d been instructed, he dared not to.

Keelion let go and turned towards Alexis. She sniffled and he stepped towards her, carding his fingers through her soft curls. One of his hands glided up and down her arm as if he were trying to soothe her. He rubbed his nose against the side of her cheek down to the mating mark, causing her to close her eyes, taking whatever comfort he was giving her at that moment.

"Go to my room, stay there, and wait for me," he said to her.

Alexis snapped her eyes open and shook her head. "No please, I—"

"Calm down," Keelion hardened his gaze. "Wait for me in my room. No one will hurt you. I’ve got something to handle."

Alexis couldn’t. Anything could happen, her life was at risk. "No. Please." she grabbed the hem of his shirt, begging with her gaze alone.

Keelion scowled at her. "Do what I asked you to do, Alexis." He leaned in enough to whisper, "Or do you want to stay and see just how cruel I can be? A monster? What I can do because of you? Do you want to watch what I’ll do to him? How I’m going to break him, piece by piece?"

She rapidly shook her head at him, the horror in her eyes spreading, unable to look away from the blackness of his stare.

"Then go. Now," he rasped.
