The Alpha's Fated Mate Is an Outcast-Chapter 39: CHAPTED
Chapter 39: CHAPTED 39
Keelion pulled the drawer of his desk open, packing in his documents. He glanced at the clock on his desk, noting that it was almost midnight, and proceeded to get up from his chair, but then the door of his office slowly opened, a scent that instantly made him frown, wafting into his nose.
"Althea, is there a problem?"
Althea closed the door behind her and walked up to him. Her arms were wrapped around her, face as red as it could get. Her breathing was hot and her steps were a bit wobbly.
"I need you, Kee—Fane. Please."
"I can’t give you what you want, I have told you that," Keelion said, pinching between his brows.
She balled her hands into fists. "Why? Why are you suddenly like this? You’ve always taken care of me, w-why can’t you this time around?"
His gaze hardened, but he didn’t let it show, instead, he rested his elbow on the armrest of his chair and propped his chin with his fisted hand.
"I said, I can’t give you what you want, Althea, not anymore. My reasons are none of your concerns," he said, letting out a soft breath. "I offered you suppressants, you didn’t want them. I’ve given you whatever of my things you need from me to make a nest, to keep you comfortable, I’m not sure what else you want from me."
"You should go back to bed and—"
Althea fell into his lap all too suddenly and cupped his cheek to kiss him—to do anything that would just fix whatever was drifting him away from her. But then Keelion gripped her jaw, not enough to hurt her, but enough to pull her face back and stare into her gray eyes.
He questioned, "What do you think you’re doing?"
"I don’t get it, Fane. Is there someone else? Is that it? Is that why you don’t want me anymore?"
He gazed at her and let go of her chin. "There is no one. Get off me."
"That’s not true." Althea shook her head at him. "I don’t even know if you will still make me your Luna at this point. You’re moving—"
"Who else would I?" Keelion questioned. "That is the sole reason you are here, so I can give my pack what they want. Hold on..." He furrowed his brows at her. "Do you think there is anything between you and me, Althea?"
"W-what do you mean?" She seemed genuinely confused. "I-if there isn’t, why do you take care of my heat? Why do you let me kiss you in front of them?"
The man exhaled softly and pinched between his brows.
"Just because? I see you’re misunderstanding something here. It’s my duty to handle your heat and I let you do what you do in front of people because it’s just a show, nothing more. You and I are not in any form of relationship, Althea. So stop it."
Althea blinked at him, her body trembling as she slowly got off his lap. "Y-you can’t mean that."
She slowly shook her head, and before Keelion could even utter another word, she slapped her hands against her ears and turned, storming her way to the door to leave.
"You don’t. I know you don’t! We belong together, I’ll be your Luna, I don’t understand what else could come between us!"
It was unclear whether she was speaking to Keelion or herself, but she did stalk out of the office, slamming the door shut with a heavy thud.
Keelion sighed and sagged into the chair for a few moments in thought before rising out of the chair and leaving the office.
He made his way back to his room and not even five steps after stepping into his room, he came to a stop, eyes rising to the bed where Alexis was curled up comfortably, fast asleep with strands of hair on her face.
He wasn’t sure why or what prompted it, but amusement crossed his face, eyes falling on her parted lip.
He didn’t move, instead he stood there, and folded his arms, solely watching her. Eyes stayed stuck on her tousled curls, before slipping down to her eyes, shut in deep sleep, her thick dark lashes resting atop her cheek. Long and very pretty.
His gaze trailed down to her cheek and stopped at the dimples that were visible whether she was smiling or not.
"It must be the dimples..." He smirked to himself. "I have a weakness for them."
Brushing his feet against the marble floor, he walked towards the bed and paused for a second before he squatted down right next to the bed, elbows popped against his knees.
His throat bobbed in a swallow as he stared at her dimple for a moment. Then he leaned in and kissed it, hand running gently into her hair.
Her soft scent, somehow like nothing he’d ever smelt on anyone before flooded his nose and he quivered softly, constantly finding himself drunk on it.
It didn’t help that he had the knowledge no one could smell it, all except him. If anyone could smell her scent, more so her pheromones...what would they do? Those alphas would lose their minds.
Alexis felt like a dominant omega, he had a hunch about her, because not just her scent, but her pheromones were heavily superior. Even the pheromones coming from Althea felt unpleasant.
Dominant omegas were rare—so much so that the only one who had ever existed was his mother, at least in his pack. No one else, so he could tell one apart right away. They were valued too...because they were perfect in all sense.
A soft breath fled his nose, and he proceeded to rise to his feet, but then his fingers were grabbed, eyes falling back to Alexis who’d woken from her sleep, blinking her tired eyes open.
She looked at him, and the first thing she mouthed, was, "You smell different."
"What?" He furrowed his brows at her.
"You don’t smell like yourself," she said to him.
The man slanted his head, watching her with a rather curious expression. "What do I smell like?"
"It’s unpleasant. Feminine."
"And how would you tell that?"
"I don’t...know." She shook her head. "It’s just...very different from your scent, it’s weak...compared to it. Your scent is strong...I’m not sure how to explain it."
Keelion lowered his gaze to where she held his fingers and looked at her face. He broke his hand out of her grip and instead of walking away like she thought he was going to, he cupped her cheek, thumb rubbing her ear.
"Do you hate it?"
"...huh?"
"That I smell different."
She blinked at him, swallowing thickly, but unable to look away from him.
"Do you?" he hummed.
