The Alpha's Fated Mate Is an Outcast-Chapter 29
Chapter 29: Chapter 29
Alexis took up her pace, trying to close the distance even a little bit.
A few minutes later, the wind started getting too cold around her skin. Her feet were in worse condition, hurting as if she was experiencing the blisters all over again. But that was the least of her problems because right now, she was so out of breath she wanted to pass out.
’I probably should have sneaked out a few times to do some running.’
At this point, she was more dragging herself than actually running. She couldn’t even see Keelion anymore.
"I’m—going—" she gasped. "—to—-die."
"Conserve your energy, girl." Reia growled at her. "We can’t even see Keelion anymore. At this point, you won’t be able to catch up to him."
"H-How—will I—do—that."
Bubbles of tears formed in her eyes. "He’s—a supreme alpha—of course—I c-can’t catch up."
"The more you talk, the more energy you lose. Stop talking!"
Alexis breathed heavily. Her lungs felt tight like she couldn’t get any more air into it. Yet she gritted her teeth, forcing herself to move her legs faster, desperate to see even Keelion’s shadow.
But that was impossible. Absolutely impossible.
The tears didn’t stop spilling from her face and when she couldn’t take it anymore—fuck Keelion—Her legs gave out. She keeled over, falling to her knee, not caring that the impact probably caused a painful scratch.
"Kid? You okay?"
"Do I look okay?" Spits were drooling from her mouth, the wet curls of her hair, latching all around her neck and forehead. "I feel like I have sawdust in my throat. I want to pass out."
She lowered her head and began dry heaving.
"Alexis."
No answer.
"Alexis, look at me." Sereia moved closer to her, pure looks of concern in her golden eyes. "Take deep, calming breaths. Keelion is coming. I can feel him and I’m sure you can too."
"He’s the worst," she whispered.
"You couldn’t even make it half the mile." Keelion’s sudden voice made her lift her head. She made a face at him, scoffing.
"I tried my best!"
"I’m sure you did."
He grabbed one of her arms and yanked her up to her feet.
"Get on." He turned his back to her.
Alexis didn’t hesitate, jumping onto his back, and wrapping her arms around his neck. His hands came under her thighs, adjusting her and then he began to walk off.
"That drool on your face looks very disgusting." Sereia walked next to Keelion.
She glared at her. "Well, he isn’t complaining."
"Complaining about what?" Keelion’s brows shut up.
"Nothing."
There was complete silence between the both of them throughout the entire walk back to the mansion.
Keelion walked in through the gate, shutting it, and then right into the mansion to make his way to the second floor.
On the balcony of the mansion, none other than Althea stood, hands gripping the rail. Her elongated claws tried digging into it as her teeth ground together in pure rising rage.
Keelion had always gone for his run alone and no one—not one person had ever once accompanied him.
Who was this beta to him? Why was he going as far as to even—
She pulled at her hair, screaming silently, the urge to tear her hair off burning inside of her.
She slowly chuckled to herself.
"You’ve got to be kidding me. A beta? Now I have to compete with a fucking beta?"
No, that was impossible. Keelion would never choose a beta over her. What the heck would he even do with a beta? It wasn’t like anyone would accept it, so this made no sense.
Unable to contain her anxiety, she barged back into her room and ran her fingers through her hair. She began to pace back and forth, scratching her neck and biting her fingertip.
I have to tell my father.
Althea picked up her phone, ready to call her father, but then she stopped. If she was going to do that, she needed a video. She should have taken a video of it.
Drawing deep breaths, she slipped her feet into her slippers and snooped down the hall towards Keelion’s master bedroom.
The closer she got, the more she could hear Keelion’s voice.
"Hot water?" It was one of the maids.
"Yes." Keelion, who stood in front of his door, nodded. "Hot water and a clean towel. Add some ointment too and make some soup."
"Yes, alpha," the maid bowed, straightening up and leaving.
A deep breath fled from Keelion and he turned, stepping back into the room and shutting the door behind him.
Althea came out from behind the white pillar where she stood and stared at the door of his room.
Was he alone in there? Or...was the beta in there with him?
But that...that was impossible.
Then again...who needed the soup? The hot water and the towel too? Keelion had no problem running. He was a supreme alpha, stronger, faster than any alpha could ever be, why would he even need all this?
No, no, he probably got hurt somehow. That had to be it.
Yeah, she was just overthinking all this nonsense.
Then where was the beta? Where even was his room?
Althea spun around, ready to find out, but then the phone in her pocket suddenly rang, causing her to come to a stop.
She plucked it out and glanced at the screen, eyes lighting up at the sight of her father’s ID. She quickly went to a much private space, proceeding to answer.
"Dad?"
[I’ve run some investigations]
"Did you find out anything? Is there any way we can get rid of him?"
The man breathed out on the other side of the phone. [What I found wouldn’t exactly help, but it might just lead us to what we want]
"How? I don’t understand."
[A few weeks ago, before the beta arrived, there were some issues in the Ruderth home, and the alpha was there]
"That’s weird." Althea blinked. "Why would he be there? That geezer is a business partner just like you are, but I don’t think Keelion would ever go to his home. He’s way above that."
[That’s not the weirdest part, Althea. Apparently, the beta’s mother is currently lodged in one of the Alpha’s owned buildings]
"What?" she rasped. "That’s impossible. Why would Keelion go that far? What is going on? Why is the beta here, what is his relationship with him? W-why would he take responsibility for the care of a mere staff’s mother?"
[That’s what we need to find out] Mr. Eliot asked. [Would you like to pay a little visit? I can have it arranged]
Althea lifted her head to stare at the floor-length window right opposite her in the empty hall. Pay a nice visit to the woman?
She smirked. "Why not?"
