The Alpha's Fated Mate Is an Outcast-Chapter 28
Chapter 28: Chapter 28
[3:30 A.M]
"Alexis," Keelion, who stood over the bed where she was sleeping, pulled the duvet off her.
Alexis turned on the bed and peeled her eyes open the second Sereia’s paws landed on her forehead.
"Wake up, kid!"
She glanced around in confusion, asking, "What? Why did you hit me?"
"I didn’t touch you." Keelion leaned over, yanked her upright by her wrist, and pulled her down from the bed to the floor.
"Wait, what is going on?" she asked. "Is it morning? But the sky—"
"We’re going for a run."
The information took a second to settle in her head before her eyes popped at him. "What?"
"We’re going for a run," he repeated. "Put those clothes and some shoes on. Meet me outside after."
Her face screwed into a frown and she glared at him before she even knew it.
Keelion arched a brow at her. "Got something to say?"
"No." She quickly shook her head, slapping an immediate hand over her mouth.
The man eyed her for a few seconds, then he opened the door and left the room.
Alexis slowly turned to stare at Sereia who was gazing at her. "Don’t you have anything to say?" she asked.
Reia scoffed, "We’re going for a run, kid. Why would I object? I need to abuse my paws a little bit."
She furrowed her brows at her.
"You can be really selfish sometimes."
"Whatever you say. Wear your clothes, I’m excited for this."
Alexis let out a soft puff and picked up the pair of shorts and a basketball shirt that were almost at her knee.
She slipped her feet into the pair of socks and shoes, but before she could leave, Sereia asked. "I think you forgot to tie your breasts. We’re pretending here, remember?"
Alexis glanced down at her chest.
"I don’t think anyone will be awake by now. It’s three in the morning. Besides, my breasts are small, I don’t think anyone will notice anyway."
"That’s funny." Sereia made a cackling sound, hopping off the bed, however, before she could take a step, her body shook so violently, it was as if an electric shock.
She dropped to the floor with a heavy thud and began writhing and whimpering in pain.
Alexis who had just arrived at the door, grabbed the handle for leverage, expression crunched in so much pain her face turned crimson.
It felt hard to breathe.
Her chest felt tight and slowly she slid to the floor turning towards Sereia who was in an equal level of pain.
"I-I-I can’t—b-breathe."
Every pair of bones in her body, her joints, were in such excruciating pain, that she curled on the floor, throwing her arms over her head, hot tears she didn’t realize had built up in her eyes beginning to flow down her face.
What was happening to them? It felt like it was never going to stop. But it did stop.
It’d subsided as if whatever had been happening to them just now was all in her head. But that wasn’t true because she could still hear Sereia whimpering in her pain that was yet to soothe completely like hers.
"Reia, Reia." Alexis quickly crawled over to her and gathered her large frame in her arms. She gently began to brush her furs with her fingers, panic written all over her face because she couldn’t understand what had happened to them.
It’d never happened before—not a pain like that. It felt as if someone was breaking her bones bit by bit.
"Reia, Reia...a-are you okay?"
Her wolf nodded, inhaling shakily before slowly crawling out of her arms. She looked at her with golden eyes that didn’t seem to have their usual bright glint and breathed out deeply. "Calm down, kid. I’m okay, we’re okay."
"What just happened? Why—"
"I’m not sure. I don’t understand either." Sereia looked at the door. "Keelion. He’s waiting outside. Let’s talk about this when we get back."
Alexis nodded.
They left the room and met Keelion who stood outside waiting. He scrutinized her from head to toe, eyeing the painful redness of her face. But he didn’t ask questions. Instead, he turned and walked into the elevator.
She hurried after him, following him inside and standing silently next to him as the doors closed.
Every now and then, her eyes would shift to him. The man was usually in a suit and today was the first time in two weeks that she was seeing him in casual clothes. A pair of grey sweatpants and a shirt that was compressed against his nice frame—very nice biceps.
"What is it?" he asked all of a sudden, causing her to jump out of her skin, startled. Her palm flew to her chest and deep breaths fled her mouth.
"You scared me."
Keelion leaned into her space, arching a brow at her. "Did I?"
She averted her gaze and turned to face the other side. "Why are you making me go for a run with you?"
"Because you need it."
"How?"
"Have you seen yourself?" taunted his deep, scratchy voice. "You look like you would break any second, I genuinely have no idea where everything you eat goes. You are weak, way too weak, sooner or later, no one will believe your beta facade. No beta is weak, I’m sure you know that."
Alexis peeked up at him. He was telling the truth—the thought of anyone finding out was her biggest fear. But... "It isn’t my fault."
"I never said it was." Glacial blue eyes flashed with a glare. "And that’s exactly why we need to toughen you up, even if just a little bit. You’re basically incapable of much, too weak with barely any strength. An average Omega is stronger than you are, and if we’re going to keep up this charade, you’ll need to gain some strength, understood?"
She swallowed but nodded her head. "I understand. But...my feet."
Keelion sized her up.
"What about them?"
"They hurt! You’re the one who told me not to work for the next two days too!"
"Of course, you won’t work," he said. "But you’ll run with it. You need to learn how to tolerate pain."
He grasped her hand and dragged her out of the elevator with him the second the doors chimed open.
"Did I piss you off?" Alexis asked as she stumbled, trying not to fall over.
The man didn’t answer, not until they left the mansion and walked out of the gate. Now they were standing in front of the empty road.
"Don’t worry, if you get too tired, I’ll carry you back," he said slowly, "But don’t even try to trick your way out of this with your oh-so-pitiful face because I’ll know and then I’ll make you run twice as much."
She visibly gulped, trying to relax her feet, while letting out a deep breath.
Sereia stretched her massive body and her paws next to her and howled excitedly.
"Ready?"
"I think I am."
"Take this seriously, Alexis."
"I am! I swear."
"Follow me." Keelion ran off first and she ran after him, able to keep up with him at first, until the tiredness started burrowing inside of her. She opened her mouth, trying to catch as much breath as she could, and the more she stared, the more she could see Keelion getting further and further away from her.
He wasn’t even running, merely jogging. And she on the other hand couldn’t keep up.
"Wow, kid, you’re terrible!"
Sereia, who was running in front of her, shook her head in disappointment.
"ALEXIS!" Keelion bellowed in his booming voice from his distance. "RUN!"
