Chapter 10: Chapter 10

"Sir Fane..." Mr. Ruderth kept swallowing convulsively. "It’s...she’s not my daughter."

Keelion cocked a brow at him. "Oh?"

"I’m not her father." frёewebnoѵēl.com

Alexis stiffened in his hold and her arms that were wrapped around her aching sides tightened. He glanced at her, and even though he couldn’t see her face that was buried in his shoulder, he knew she was sobbing silently.

Eleni glared at Ruderth, suddenly grasping his arm. "Adolf, what are you talking about? What do you mean you’re not her father? You—"

"I am not her father!" he snapped at her. "This is a child you gave birth to out of an affair, everyone knows that. You and I know it’s the real reason she has been hidden. I have been housing another man’s daughter, and I had and have no reason to make her public as mine."

Eleni shook her head.

"Adolf..." She looked at him like she couldn’t recognize him anymore, as if the man she was staring at was not the man she had once fallen in love with and given up her own mate for. "You’re... why are you lying? She’s your daughter, everyone knows that. Where is this coming from? Why are you denying—"

"Everyone knows what?" Mr. Ruderth scowled at her. "Would you like us to ask the so-called everyone, Eleni? You’ve made me take responsibility for a child that was never mine. Haven’t you had enough?"

"Yes!" Eve spoke out of nowhere, coming into Keelion’s view. "She isn’t my sister." She shook her head, sounding as convincing as she possibly could.

Keelion’s eyes leisurely glided over to her, and he averted his gaze back to Ruderth.

"So, you are claiming that Alexis isn’t your daughter?" he asked.

Ruderth bowed to him, nodding. "She isn’t my daughter, Sir, Fane. I have only one daughter, and this is her, Eve." He grabbed Eve’s hand, pulling her to his side.

Keelion didn’t spare the girl a glance, instead, he nodded. "I see. Looks like it’s a misunderstanding on my part—"

Alexis pinched into his side.

He looked at her.

"I don’t feel so good..." she whispered to him, squeezing her eyes shut.

His fingers grazed up and down the back of her neck, noting the gradually rising temperature of her body. He’d forgotten she was in heat, and him being that close to her wasn’t making it any better.

Drawing a soft breath, his arms came around her, and he lifted her, carrying her as he stood up from the sofa. He walked off, proceeding to leave the manor, but he stopped on his feet once he arrived close to Ruderth.

His face held no expression as he intimidatingly moved closer and closer to the man until he could brutally step on his feet enough to make it hurt excruciatingly.

Then he said, "Your daughter or not, I don’t care. Your bullshit means nothing to me, Adolf. She, however, is my business, and if you ever touch her again, I’ll break you into pieces, tear you apart until you’re nothing."

Long lashes fluttered over the dark shadows that rimmed his piercing eyes. "I promise you—you will never recover."

Before Ruderth, who’d stiffened with frozen fear on his face, could swallow, he stormed off, walking past Eleni.

Eleni glanced at her husband and turned, following after Keelion, worrying for Alexis. The alpha didn’t seem like he was going to hurt her, but where was he taking her?

The man walked down the stairs, and she hurried over to stand in front of him before he could get to his car.

Keelion lowered his gaze to her shorter figure.

She clasped her hands in a pleading manner and attempted to fall on her knees in front of him, but he glared at her before she could. "What are you doing?"

She looked into his eyes.

"Alexis, she’s my only child, the only one I have. Please...you can’t hurt her. I know what she is, and it’s probably—"

"She’ll be fine," he said. "You don’t...have anything to worry about."

Her lashes flickered and a tinge of hope slowly sparked in her watery eyes. "Thank you! Thank you very much! We don’t really have anywhere to go, so I just wanted to make sure that—"

"Right. Give me a moment," he interrupted and stepped away from her towards the car. He pulled the door open, sitting down Alexis, who was breathing heavily from her rising heat. She was conscious, but he doubted she was even still aware of her surroundings.

Keelion plucked his phone out of his pocket, calling Augustus.

"Sir?"

"Alexis’s mother, come to Adolf’s manor and pick her up."

"May I...ask why, sir?"

"Let her occupy one of my estates. And make sure she’s comfortable."

"Sir, that’s—"

"Do what I asked you to, Augustus." And he hung up the call, tossing the phone into the car. He walked back to Eleni. "One of my men will pick you up. Follow him when he arrives."

Eleni was confused. "I don’t understand."

"Alexis wants you safe. I can’t have her freaking out that you are still here." He turned around and made his way back to the car.

She watched his figure, unable to wrap her head around the entire situation. What exactly had just happened in under twenty-four hours? All because...her daughter went to a gala she shouldn’t have in the first place...

She stared at the car until it was driven out of the compound, leaving her standing and unsure of what was going to happen now.

It didn’t look like Alexis was in danger. Definitely not with the alpha, because surely he wouldn’t bother wasting his way here for an outcast if he was going to hurt her.

For the first time in a long while, a deep breath of relief fled her nose, and she slowly turned to lock eyes with Eve, who was at the door, shooting her hateful glares.

"Thank you for ruining my life! It’s what you’ve always wanted!" she bit out. "I hope you’re happy!"
