Pregnant During An Apocalypse [BL]-Chapter 173 - Joining you
Chapter 173: Chapter 173 - Joining you
Jiang Hao’s grip on Hana was firm. His hands trembled ever so slight as he held the knife to her neck.
The tip of the jagged blade pressed even closer, threatening to pierce her pale skin.
Hana whimpered, her face contorted in pain and fear, but she didn’t struggle. She knew better than to provoke him further.
Yunfeng’s chest heaved. His fists were clenched so tight the bones in his hand ached.
"Fine," he rasped, his voice hoarse. "We’ll go... We’ll save your mother. Just—just let her go first. I give you my word."
Jiang Hao let out a bitter laugh. "Your word means nothing to me!" His eyes were wide, red-rimmed, like a cornered animal. "You’re all liars. You’ll say anything to keep your precious little group safe and then toss me aside!"
The blade pressed closer.
"Now go and rescue her for me," Jiang Hao growled. "Her name is Jiang Meiling. She’s at Jinshan Residential Block, Sector 7, East Baihu District, City A."
Yunfeng gritted his teeth. It was in the main city center—one of the dangerously infected area. Going there was almost suicide.
Still, he nodded. "Okay... okay. You stay here with Hana," he said, glancing toward Shao with urgency. "Watch him. Don’t let your guard down."
Shao didn’t say anything. He just gave a short, cold nod, never taking his eyes off Jiang Hao.
Muchen grabbed Yunfeng’s arm. His hand was trembling.
"I’ll be back," Yunfeng whispered, gently squeezing his lover’s hand. "Stay safe, okay? Stay as far from him as possible."
"No." Muchen shook his head violently. "No, I’m not letting you go alone."
Yunfeng pulled away slightly. "Muchen, it’s too dangerous."
"I won’t let you face that kind of danger alone." Muchen’s voice was thick with emotion. "You think I can sit here and just wait while you risk your life out there?!"
Before Yunfeng could answer, Jiang Hao suddenly snarled, "Don’t you dare waste my time!"
The knife dug slightly into Hana’s neck.
She cried out.
Blood slid down her skin in a thin, trembling line.
Yunfeng’s entire body tensed. He turned sharply, eyes wide, breath caught in his throat. His pupils seemed to shimmer into an unnatural hue—somewhere between blue and green, the color of a quiet storm before it breaks.
A strong scent of bitter oranges filled the space. Shao flinched viably while Muchen, Jai and Hana had completely different reactions. They felt their knees weaken. It was like an invisible pair of hands were pushing them down to the ground.
Jiang Hao flinched, his grip faltering for a second as something primal flickered in Yunfeng’s gaze.
"I’ll kill her! I’ll kill her, I swear!" Jiang Hao yelled again, panicked but desperate, as if afraid of what he himself had provoked.
Yunfeng shut his eyes tightly, teeth grinding together as a wave of fury boiled beneath his skin. A subtle flicker of warmth ignited in his palms, dying as quickly as it came.
"Fine," he said coldly, his voice low and dangerous. "But if you hurt her—if you so much as scratch her again—I’ll show you what hell feels like."
With that, he walked to the rear door of the warehouse and he stepped out.
The door slammed shut behind him.
Yunfeng took a deep breath. ’lets get this over with as fast as we can...’
The warehouse door suddenly creaked open again.
Yunfeng froze mid-step. Slowly, he turned his head.
Muchen stood there, eyes ablaze with fury.
Yunfeng’s heart twisted. "Muchen," he began as a soft whisper, "I won’t allow you to come with me."
But Muchen walked up to him unfazed, closing the distance. He gently tapped Yunfeng’s chin upward with his knuckles, eyes locking into his. "Who asked for your permission, hmm?"
Without waiting for a reply, Muchen reached into Yunfeng’s hand and plucked the machine gun from his grip like it was his all along. He started loading bullets with smooth, practiced hands.
Yunfeng ran a hand through his hair, breath catching in his throat. "Why won’t you listen to me for once?" His voice cracked slightly under the weight of it all.
Muchen just scowled and tossed him a sharp look. "As if you ever listened to me." Then he turned on his heel and strode toward the truck parked a little ahead, slipping behind it with ease. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
He crouched low, pressing his back against the cold metal, then peeked his head out to scan the perimeter. "You coming, or shall I go out there alone?" he called softly.
Yunfeng stood still for a moment, caught in a whirl of worry. Gritting his teeth, he followed him, crouching beside him behind the truck.
"You..." Yunfeng began, huffing. "When I tell you to run—please—just listen to me."
Muchen shrugged, calm as ever. "If I want to."
Yunfeng stared at him in disbelief, but Muchen had already started surveying the area again. The horde of zombies that had surrounded the warehouse earlier had shifted, drawn away toward the bomb detonation site in the far end of the alley.
But the relief was short-lived.
To get to the city center—and to Jiang Hao’s mother—they had to pass through that area.
Muchen’s eyes flickered with concern. ’how to get around....’ His gaze dropped to the massive backpack slung across Yunfeng’s back. A corner of the map was sticking out from its side pouch. Without a word, Muchen pulled it free and spread it across the ground between them.
Yunfeng leaned over as Muchen traced a new route with his finger. "We can’t go through here," he said quietly, pointing to the bomb site. "So why don’t we take the long path? It’ll take a little longer, but at least we won’t walk straight into a crowd of the undead."
Yunfeng examined the route—his brows furrowed deeply as his eyes stopped at a part marked with faded green.
"No. This path goes through the zoo sector."
Muchen raised an eyebrow. "It’s a zoo. There’s nothing dangerous there."
But Yunfeng’s lips tightened, and a shadow passed over his eyes. He remembered—too clearly—the thing they had heard last time. The dangerous roar that send shivers down his spine...
He did not want to meet that beast in his lifetime.
Never.
"Just... that path is off-limits. We need another route."
"why not?"
"You don’t want to know," Yunfeng muttered while holding back a shudder.
Muchen studied him for a moment. Sensing the weight of fear in his lovers eyes he didn’t argue.
They traced a new path—one that zigzagged around the city edge, skimming old apartment ruins and bypassing the dense forested zone to the east. It would take longer, but it wouldn’t take them past the zoo. That alone gave Yunfeng some measure of comfort.
They rolled up the map and strapped it back into the pack. Yunfeng glanced back at the warehouse one last time.
He touched Muchen’s arm.
"Let’s go."
