Pregnant During An Apocalypse [BL]-Chapter 170 - The run back
Chapter 170: Chapter 170 - The run back
The wailing of the undead grew louder as they pressed into the alley, their rotting hands scraping against the walls, their decayed throats gurgling hungrily. Shao didn’t hesitate—he grabbed a discarded cloth, wrapped his hand, and smashed the nearby low window. The sound of shattering glass was drowned out by the approaching groans.
"Quick!" he hissed.
Yunfeng didn’t need to be told twice. He hoisted himself up, glass crunching under his boots, and tumbled inside.
The room was pitch dark. The only light came from the flickering orange glow outside, the remnants of the chopper burning. Yunfeng caught his breath, his pulse pounding in his ears.
Shao landed beside him, grimacing as he quickly brushed the stray glass shards from his sleeves.
A loud scream echoed from outside, followed by a rapid burst of gunfire.
Yunfeng flinched. He clenched his fists, his flames itching to come out, but he forced them down. He wasn’t stupid—if he lit up, the zombies would see them immediately.
Shao carefully stepped forward, his boots crunching softly against the debris-covered floor. "We can’t stay here for long. Barricade the window."
Yunfeng turned and dragged over a fallen shelf, wedging it against the opening. It wouldn’t hold forever, but it would buy them time.
The moans outside grew frantic. Zombies weren’t smart—but they knew prey was nearby.
Shao exhaled and scanned the room. "Looks like an old storage area..." His voice was hushed, cautious.
The place was filled with dust-covered shelves, scattered debris, and broken furniture. A few old boxes lay in the corner, their labels long faded. The air was stagnant, thick with the smell of decay.
Then, something moved.
Yunfeng froze.
A low rustling. A shift in the shadows.
He exchanged a look with Shao.
They weren’t alone.
Shao silently reached for his knife, stepping forward with measured caution. Yunfeng, heart pounding, inched toward the source of the noise.
A breath.
A soft whimper.
Then—
A pair of terrified eyes peered up at them from behind an overturned crate.
A girl.
No older than ten.
Her face was streaked with dirt, her cheeks hollow, her lips cracked. She looked like she had been hiding for days.
Yunfeng swallowed hard. "Hey..." He crouched down slowly, raising his hands to show he wasn’t a threat. "It’s okay. We’re not going to hurt you."
The girl didn’t move.
She stared at them, wide-eyed, chest rising and falling rapidly.
Then, she opened her mouth to scream.
Shao lunged forward, clamping a hand over her lips. "Shhh!!" His voice was low but firm.
The girl struggled, kicking weakly, but Shao held her still.
"Yunfeng," Shao gritted out. "Do something before she gets us all killed."
Yunfeng sighed, rubbing his temple. "Look, kid, I know you’re scared, but we’re the only chance you’ve got." He locked eyes with her, softening his tone. "You scream, we all die."
The girl trembled violently. Her tiny hands clutched the front of Shao’s shirt, her body quaking with fear.
Yunfeng’s expression softened.
She must have seen unspeakable horrors.
Slowly, she nodded, her lips quivering as Shao released his grip. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
She didn’t scream.
Yunfeng exhaled. "Good." He ran a tired hand through his hair. "Now... how the hell do we get out of here?"
Shao glanced toward the back of the room, where a faint crack of light peeked through a half-broken door.
Yunfeng dashed to the main door of the storeroom. He peeked through a gap in the broken door and immediately wished he hadn’t.
A sea of undead had gathered, their grotesque forms shuffling together like a swarm of locusts. Their moans blended into a terrible symphony of hunger, rattling the air with an eerie resonance.
Shao, standing beside him, let out a slow, controlled breath. "We’re screwed."
Yunfeng rubbed his temple. "No shit."
The girl, still trembling, clutched at Yunfeng’s sleeve, her tiny fingers digging in.
"No way we’re making it through that," Shao muttered. "Any bright ideas?"
Yunfeng’s eyes flickered to the dusty shelves, the busted cabinets, and the old storage bins scattered around the room. His mind raced.
And then—
His gaze landed on a rusted cleaning cart in the corner.
His lips curved into a grin.
Shao narrowed his eyes. "I don’t like that look."
Yunfeng ignored him, striding over to the cart. He rummaged through the bottles and yanked out two large canisters of industrial bleach, an old rust-remover solution, and a nearly evaporated can of paint thinner.
"This," Yunfeng said, lifting the bottles triumphantly, "is our way out."
Shao stared. "...Do I even want to ask?"
"Basic chemistry," Yunfeng said, rolling up his sleeves. "We make a bomb."
Shao blinked. "A bomb?"
"A big one." Yunfeng grinned. "See, when mixed right, bleach and rust remover release toxic chlorine gas. Add paint thinner and—"
"It explodes?"
"Boom." Yunfeng made a small explosion gesture with his hands.
Shao crossed his arms. "How do you even know this?"
Yunfeng shrugged. "Let’s just say I had a weird phase in high school."
Shao rubbed his face. "I don’t get paid enough for this."
"We don’t get paid at all." Yunfeng started unscrewing the caps.
The girl watched nervously. "Is... is it dangerous?"
"Oh, very," Yunfeng said cheerfully. "So back up."
Shao pulled the girl a few steps away as Yunfeng quickly poured the bleach into an old metal bucket. He added the rust remover, and almost instantly, a faint greenish vapor began rising from the mixture.
"That’s the chlorine gas," Yunfeng muttered, eyes watering slightly as he held his breath. "Now for the fun part."
He grabbed the paint thinner and a discarded rag, soaking it thoroughly. Then, he twisted the rag into a makeshift fuse and dropped it just inside the bucket.
Finally, he turned to Shao. "We’re gonna need to exit. Fast."
Shao nodded and moved toward the back of the room, where an old air vent was partially loose. He began yanking at it, metal creaking under the pressure.
Yunfeng gazed at him weirdly. "wgat are you doing?"
"I don’t trust your chemistry skills." Shao mumbled as he tore open the vent cover. He placed the little girl in and covered it
"Ready? I’m not joking I might suck at other things but I’m good at science stuff," Yunfeng glared up at him.
"I still don’t trust you." Shao mumbled under his breath.
Yunfeng wiped sweat from his brow as he double-checked the makeshift bomb. The bleach and rust remover were already reacting, releasing a faint greenish vapor. The paint-thinner-soaked rag was their fuse.
Shao crouched beside him, gripping a broken metal pipe. "You sure about this?"
Yunfeng grinned. "Nope."
"What if it doesn’t work?"
"Then we die horribly," Yunfeng said cheerfully. "But let’s not focus on that part."
Shao rolled his eyes. "You’re enjoying this too much."
"Maybe," Yunfeng admitted, sparking a small blue flame at his fingertips.
He lit the soaked rag, and it immediately caught fire.
"Now, we throw it far away and hope the zombies are dumb enough to follow it."
They grabbed the bucket bomb and hurled it out the window with all their strength.
Strangely the five kg bucket only felt like it weighed a few grams. They were easily able to toss it right over to the next street.
The metal clanked and rolled down the broken street before landing near an abandoned car.
For a second, nothing happened.
Then—
BOOM.
A deafening explosion rocked the street as a fireball erupted, sending flaming debris flying.
The horde of zombies that had been marching toward them immediately shifted their attention to the explosion. Their grotesque heads snapped toward the source, and like moths to a flame, they began shuffling toward the chaos.
Shao exhaled, watching the undead leave their path. "I can’t believe that actually worked."
Yunfeng dusted off his hands. "What can I say? I’m a genius."
Shao glared. "Let’s go before they figure out they’ve been played." He quickly grabbed the young girl from the vent and tossed her over his shoulders. "be quiet kid or else bad things will eat you,"
The girl whimpered and quieted her struggle.
"wow you’re great with kids," yunfeng mumbled sarcastically.
They climbed out of their hiding spot and bolted toward the crashed chopper, weaving between burnt-out cars and piles of rubble.
As they reached the wreckage, Yunfeng’s stomach twisted. The flames had mostly died down, leaving behind charred metal and the stench of burnt fuel.
The soldiers face was now half eaten his remaining eye remained open in horror. He was still clutching the huge machine gun in his arms even in his death.
Yunfeng quickly picked it up from the dead soldiers hands. "thank you for coming for our rescue," he gently closed his eye. "rest in peace,"
Yunfeng and Shao didn’t waste time searching the wreckage any further. The explosion had only bought them a few minutes before the zombies would start roaming back, and they needed to get out.
"Forget it, let’s move!" Yunfeng hissed, pulling Shao by the arm.
The two of them bolted through the desolate streets, dodging debris and bodies. The warehouse wasn’t far, but the moans of the undead behind them sent a sharp wave of panic through Yunfeng’s spine.
Then—
CRASH!
A metal beam collapsed from a half-burnt building beside them, blocking their direct path.
Shao swore, skidding to a stop. "We can’t go around! That alley’s full of them."
Yunfeng’s mind raced. They had to get back fast, but there was no clear route—except above.
"Up there!" he pointed at a low rooftop.
Shao stared. "You’re crazy."
"Yeah, but I won’t get eaten."
Without waiting for a response, Yunfeng sprinted toward a nearby abandoned truck, jumped onto its hood, and launched himself onto a balcony railing.
Shao cursed but followed suit, climbing up after him.
They ran across the rooftops, leaping gaps, ignoring the horde swarming below them. Yunfeng panted hard, adrenaline pumping as he spotted the warehouse in the distance.
They were close.
But then—
A loud shriek pierced the air.
A mutated zombie, twice their size, clawed its way up a fire escape ahead, its distorted face twisted in hunger.
Shao paled. "Oh, come on."
Yunfeng gritted his teeth. No time to hesitate.
He raised his hand, blue flames roaring to life.
"Hope you like barbecue."
With a flick of his wrist, a wave of fire blasted toward the monster, engulfing it in flames.
It screamed, thrashed, then lost its balance—
Crashing off the rooftop and plummeting to the street below.
Yunfeng exhaled. "Let’s go!"
They jumped onto the last rooftop, then climbed down an old drainpipe, dropping into the alley behind the warehouse.
Shao banged on the door. "Open up!"
For a second, nothing.
Then, the heavy metal doors creaked open, and Muchen’s furious face greeted them.
"You idiots!" he scolded. "You almost got yourselves killed!"
But the relief in his eyes was unmistakable.
Yunfeng grinned, hands on his knees, gasping for breath. "Missed us?"
Muchen punched him.
Hard.
