OMG!!! My Crippled Husband is a Hot, Powerful CEO-Chapter 199 - Please behave, sister
Chapter 199: Chapter 199 - Please behave, sister
It had been a long time, but Joan could never forget her half-sister’s green eyes, which she inherited from her father.
Alex had also mentioned that she was alive and working with Salvatore’s men, so could it be her? If it was, did it mean Alex was also close by?
Before she could ask, the girl spoke. "Call me Beauty. I am here to protect you, but you have to do as I say."
Her sister was Nancy, so where did the name Beauty come from? What if this wasn’t related to Alex? "How can I trust you?" Joanna asked, her gaze fixed on the girl who did not stop cleaning as she spoke.
"This isn’t the ideal place for a family reunion, but what you should know is that Alex is aware that I’m here."
The more she spoke and the more Joanna stared at her, the more convinced she was that this was indeed someone she knew.
No matter the toughness and the visible changes, some things could still not be ignored.
"Alex informed me that my sister wasn’t killed like I thought. Are you her?" She was overwhelmed with so much emotion that made her want to embrace her sister, but as soon as she rose to her feet, Nancy took a step back.
"Please behave, sister. Anyone could come in at any moment, but Alex will be here in about twelve hours. Before then, I have to keep you safe because he and his men will bring down this place."
Joanna understood that as much as she wanted to embrace her sister, it was impossible at the moment, but Nancy smiled. It had been a long time, but she recognized her sister the moment she saw her, though she had been informed by Dario.
Childhood memories she tried to forget flooded in, but she ensured to keep them all at bay.
"I hope we meet again after everything is over. We have a lot to talk about," Joanna was saying, but Nancy cut in.
"There are rules, sister. The best my boss could allow was for me to let you know I’m alive. This is my passion, and I’m glad you are doing well. I miss mom, but I’d rather not see her again."
Joanna was in tears, but Nancy showed no emotions on her face. "The man you married is very powerful, and you need strength to match him. Tears don’t work in our world."
The door pushed open, and without checking to see who it was, she asked Joan. "Fiona told me about your pregnancy, so do you have any special preferences?"
Meeting her sister again, Joanna refrained from complicating matters, and with Logan at the door, she turned to the side and wiped her tears as she spoke.
"Tea and toast would be fine."
Nancy smiled and replied. "In your condition, Greek yogurt might be good. Do you want some?"
Joanna stiffened slightly. Back in the days, the two snacked on Greek yogurt a lot because Nancy’s father usually got it for them.
Nancy hadn’t forgotten, and that warmed her heart, assuring her that even though she might not see Nancy like she wanted, they would forever remain in each other’s hearts.
"I would appreciate it."
With a nod, Nancy went out of the room as Logan walked around and sat beside Joanna.
"There is going to be a change."
Joanna was slightly nervous, being oblivious to what the change was going to be about.
"You sound as if I have a say in your endeavors."
"You sure haven’t lost your sense of humor," Logan said with a smile as he stated. "It’s still dependent on Alex, though."
Joanna feigned interest in the discussion and tried to pin it in Logan’s favor.
"He doesn’t love me, so any decision he takes would never favor me."
"That is your loss for not coming back to me when you had the chance," he shrugged. All that mattered to him at this moment was profit.
"Then you shouldn’t tell me," Joanna sighed. How could someone like Alex have an evil brother like this?
"But I want to. If he doesn’t agree to our conditions, his worker is going to expose him. Isn’t it sad, his own men are turning against him."
He removed strands of hair from her face, pushing them gently to the back of her ears as he leaned in.
Joanna’s breath caught in her throat as she didn’t have another way to prevent a kiss like she did the last time.
As her head moved to the back in the pretense of not knowing what Logan was about to do, his hand pressed against the back of her head, and he pulled her closer.
Joanna had no way of stopping it, only hoping that Alex would understand, but a knock sounded, and before Logan could send the person away, the door pushed open with Nancy carrying a food tray.
Logan was upset after pulling away, but what Nancy said next calmed him.
"Breakfast is ready, ma’am. A pregnant woman shouldn’t miss breakfast."
He had forgotten Joanna was pregnant. "Enjoy your breakfast," he said and walked out. Joanna smiled at Nancy. "Thank you for the timely interruption."
Nancy smiled and asked her. "You don’t think it’s a coincidence, do you?"
She was about to ask more questions, but Nancy had already left. Joanna realized how much her kid sister had changed and matured.
The mere sight of the food gave her the appetite to devour it because it was made with love.
Joanna emptied her cup of tea before she remembered not having asked if Nancy had eaten, but she felt sleepy as well, wondering if she had been drugged.
Luckily, the door pushed open before she passed out as Nancy walked in. There were red fingerprints on her face, which disturbed Joanna.
"Who did this to you?"
Nancy smiled and replied. "Don’t worry. It’s already taken care of, but you have to sleep now. I will be back during lunchtime."
"What!" Joanna grabbed her arm before she escaped and asked her. "Why did you drug me?" Dismay shone on her eyes but
Nancy smiled and stared at her.
She couldn’t reveal the plans those useless dons had for Joanna and quickly made up an excuse. "I noticed you hadn’t slept well, but you need a good rest before your husband gets here. Things would turn bloody, but through it all, you would need to stay awake."
By the time she finished talking, Joan was already asleep, but when she reached the door, she bumped into Don Russo. "Excuse me, sir, what do you want?"
