Chapter 134: Chapter 134 – It’s too late for that

"What did you find out? Or was it something else?" Alex asked Aiden, who appeared slightly confused. Perhaps he had misunderstood everything.

"Wait, what were you expecting?" he asked. Alex recalled what Melanie had said and couldn’t even care where she was at the moment.

He leaned in and whispered to Aiden, "She claimed to have some proof of me being Salvador on it."

Aiden burst into laughter, which annoyed Alex until he calmed down and explained, "She tricked you. These are just records of everything that happened between the two of you in that room."

"What?" Alex was confused, but Aiden clarified it for him.

"What you gave me was a high-definition camera, but I wonder where she got it from."

Alex sighed with relief. If Melanie was in cahoots with Logan, could it be that they both didn’t have the correct information?

As much as Alex wanted to believe that, Logan seemed too confident when he mentioned it.

"Thanks for the clarification, but I forgot to tell you earlier that one of my men betrayed me. I want to supervise his torture, and you are welcome to watch."

Aiden was excited at the mention of torture. "Thanks for the invitation. I won’t miss it for anything."

When they reached Alex’s car, it was nowhere to be found, but he remembered sending Ike on an errand and sent him a text message: ’You can go home from the hospital.’

Turning to Aiden, Alex said, "I guess we are using your car tonight."

Aiden, not pleased with the arrangement as he wanted to pass by the club to see if Violet was there, asked, "Really? What about yours?"

Alex, noticing Aiden’s displeasure, asked irritably, "You look displeased. What is the matter?" Aiden regained his composure.

"I’m just surprised, that’s all," Aiden replied. He pressed the remote, and as soon as the car unlocked, Alex sat in the passenger seat.

"You drive. I will connect with Dario. I hope he’s awake," Alex said.

"Even if he isn’t, he must wake up when duty calls," Aiden shrugged as he stepped on the accelerator.

Alex’s call soon connected, and he activated the bot voice he used for Salvador. "I want to see the man who betrayed us. Let me witness his torture," the robotic voice sounded, and Dario smiled.

"Alright, sir, please give me a few minutes to get to the torture room."

While Alex waited, he informed Aiden, "Just so you know, Violet is at my house, so it’s fine if you don’t want to stay over."

Aiden felt a surge of excitement upon hearing the news. "That actually makes it the perfect destination, but why is she there?" Aiden inquired with curiosity.

Alex, who was not one to deceive even in a contract marriage, was intrigued to find out the reason. "I had to incapacitate Joan because Logan was confusing her, claiming I was Salvador. Violet sensed something was amiss and insisted on seeing her."

Aiden was moved by Violet’s caring nature. "I never realized she was this compassionate."

Alex chuckled. "Her demeanor can be perplexing at times, but when it comes to Joan, I know Violet holds a deep concern for her."

A pang of guilt pricked Aiden’s heart momentarily, but he pushed it aside and resolved to be cautious, as Violet seemed to hold a special place in Alex’s heart because of Joanna.

Their conversation was interrupted by Dario’s voice coming through the video they were watching.

I’m in the torture room now, so you can access the cameras," Dario said. When Alex did, he was grateful and said, "Ask him these questions for me."

Dario prepared himself and responded, "Ready."

Alex stared at the battered man on the floor, unrecognizable. His body, from head to toe, was covered in blood, indicating the severity of the torture he endured.

"Ask him how much he was paid."

Only Dario could hear Alex’s voice, so he asked the question, and the man on the floor lifted his head weakly. "Water."

Dario kicked him in the face, eliciting a weak groan. The man was exhausted from the torture. "You betrayed us, and you ask me for water? How much were you paid?"

"Three hundred bucks," he replied in a slow, tired, and painful voice. Alex was deeply troubled. "Just three hundred bucks?"

Dario repeated the question, but to their surprise, the man suddenly became furious as he struggled to his feet, still unsteady.

Alex was unsurprised due to the rigorous training they had undergone, which had prepared them to endure significant torture.

The man, who was not restrained, seemed like a living dead. "Do you think I did it for the money?" he rasped, his voice hoarse from thirst. Without expecting an answer, he continued to express his thoughts.

"Working under a robot is an insult to our human intelligence. I considered betraying him to force him to reveal himself, whether he is a robot or human," he declared.

Alex comprehended the gravity of the situation and conveyed through Dario, "You still haven’t succeeded in exposing him or seeing his true identity, so who is at a disadvantage now?"

Exhausted, he sank to the ground, likely fatigued from standing for an extended period. "I’ve come to realize that, but if Salvador has any concern for us, his employees, we deserve to know his true identity," he lamented.

Before Alex could respond, Dario articulated his thoughts, "If Salvador had disclosed his identity, you might have betrayed him in the same manner. I once shared your sentiments, but now I believe Salvador’s actions are justified."

His own men would betray him for a little money and put his life at risk. Salvador took us in when we were nothing. He hired experts to train us to become weapons but also pays adequately. Even the lowest-ranking person earns at least two hundred grand annually, so why does it matter whether he shows his face or not?"

The question left the man covered in blood feeling helpless. He had acted impulsively, and it was now too late to right his wrongs.

"I’m sorry," he muttered.

"It’s too late for that," Dario raged. As the leader of Salvador’s men, he knew the punishment for every crime by heart.

"Do you have any last words?" Dario asked the man on the floor. He pleaded, "My family. I want to see them one last time."

Dario chuckled. "We will inform your family of your death and take good care of them as per the contract. However, you will never see them again."

"No, please," the man on the floor begged, crawling towards Dario, who evaded his touch as the torture had affected his eyes.

"Salvador, should I end him?" Dario asked, just as Alex was about to respond, they heard the man on the floor speak again. "No. There is something else. I will only tell you if you agree to spare my life."
