New World with Four Husbands-Chapter 190: Activation of his quest
Chapter 190: Activation of his quest
The mediator snapped out of his thoughts, his eyes wide.
His bright blue eyes darted forward to the woman standing before him, his brain processing what he had just done.
He stared at Coco, his mind struggling to process the sudden change of feeling towards her, his thoughts still lingering on the thoughts he had been drowning in moments before.
"Are you okay?" Coco asked for the second time, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion and worry.
He was struck by a pang of guilt and shame, especially when she had told him a lot of things before she stopped and noticed that he wasn’t paying attention, but he got a gist of the things she said.. Well.. Mostly.
"I’m okay." Quizen answered, his voice uncharacteristically quiet and small.
Coco blinked and looked visibly relieved after hearing his assurance, her shoulders relaxing as the tension drained out of her body.
She was sure that he was brewing something crazy in his mind, but since he looked like he was in a daze rather than looking like he was scheming something for her, she decided to check up on him and stop her ramblings.
Coco let out the breath that she had not realized she’d been holding, her anxiety melting away as a wave of relief washed over her.
A small smile crept onto her face, genuine and grateful, her emerald eyes bright with relief. "So? Are we clear? You’re not upset with me or anything, right?"
Quizen observed the woman before him as he took in the way her shoulders relaxed and noted her visible relief.
He saw her small smile and the bright gleam in her green eyes, his gaze taking in her every reaction and watching as the tension left her body, his eyes noticed how much more relaxed she seemed now, compared to moments before.
Not only that, he noticed the way the light from the lamp on the wall reflected in her eyes, the way her breathing slowed, her chest no longer heaving with anxiety, which was a disappointment because when she was heaving, her chest was jiggling along with her breathing—
He closed his eyes tightly and breathed through his nose, erasing the thoughts from his mind.
He opened his eyes, resuming what he was doing and watched her intently, his gaze tracing over every contour of her face.
Despite his earlier anger, he found himself feeling a sense of concern for her and found his eyes drawn to her, his gaze fixed on her face as if unable to look away, every movement she made at the moment attracting his attention.
"Quizen?" Coco asked, noticing the way his eyes kept wondering and did not say anything.
The mediator snapped out of his thoughts, his mind suddenly focused on the present moment— the earlier daze had faded into the background, replaced by a deep feeling of shame and embarrassment.
Just what was he thinking? Why did he find himself studying the woman who had beaten him and Alhai up?
He frowned when he found his gaze tracking every movement, every gesture, every shift she made, and he couldn’t help, but feel a strange feeling of being drawn to her, his curiosity piqued by her actions earlier.
The mediator swallowed the lump in his throat and forced out a cough, looking away from her chest and gazing at the floor instead.
"Sorry.. What were you saying?" Quizen mumbled, taking a step back away from Coco to give him enough space to breathe because for some reason, he felt like his air was getting stolen.
"You were spacing out." Coco pointed out what he has been doing for the past five minutes with a raise of an eyebrow, "We’re either clear and good or you have something in mind that you want to tell me. Which is it?"
However, as much as she wanted to know what Quizen was thinking, the notification sound of the scroll’s arrival echoed in her mind and caught her attention.
Ding!
[Side Quest {3} done! Receiving rewards...]
Coco blinked rapidly and stared at the text written on the scroll, her mind drifting off to her interaction with Quizen a moment agap and wondered how she managed to calm him down even though he was unresponsive.
[Activating Quizen’s Quest {1}, please wait a moment...]
"You went to me to avoid getting mad at you and left your ’friend’ alone, right? Because you don’t want a fight to start?" Quizen spoke up and made Coco snap her attention back to him.
"Well, yes..? I didn’t want you to start a fight and cause a scene downstairs." Coco said, making her reasoning clear towards the fourth husband.
Quizen stared down at her and had his lips form a straight line, feeling slightly offended by her words.
He knows that Coco has a point because he had accused her of cheating a few times before tonight and even had himself scolded by Zaque— telling him that he was being unreasonable.
"I wasn’t thinking of—"
"But you were." Coco said with a firm voice and narrowed her eyes towards him, "You were marching down and were glaring at me in the distance. I saw you and I could already tell that you would cause an unnecessary scene."
Quizen got quiet as his shoulders grew stiff, getting hit right where it felt embarrassing.
Coco was right, he was mad to see her having someone at her table and looked like she was enjoying his presence.
She sighed, her gaze shifting from his face to the scroll.
