New World with Four Husbands-Chapter 186: Dinner with Jonathan [2]
Chapter 186: Dinner with Jonathan [2]
"Are you sure you’re okay with just bread and juice?" Coco asked, her eyes glued to the food in Jonathan’s hand.
The loaf of bread was simple in its appearance, its surface a smooth and golden-brown color— the smell of fresh baked bread filled the air, the scent of yeast and carbs wafting towards the mediator.
Several fried eggs were placed in front of him, their yolks bright yellow against the backdrop of the white.
The eggs were fried perfectly, the edges of the eggs golden and crisp, while the yolks remained soft and runny, and they were steaming, their surface bumpy and uneven, and their color a deep yellow shade.
The crust of the bread was crispy and craggy, the texture offering a slight resistance as her fingers sank into the soft flesh of the bread.
Coco had ordered him several eggs and a loaf of bread so he could make an egg sandwich if he wished to.
However, he thinks that she went overboard.
"Yeah, yeah, I’m completely okay with just bread and juice. You didn’t have to order eggs." Jonathan laughed nervously as he took a bite from the bread, chewing the piece so he wouldn’t have to talk to Coco.
He made an excuse right on the spot to stop Coco from telling him that he’s adorable, cute, beautiful, or whatnot.
He didn’t know that she would take his excuse seriously and would order a lot of eggs just to fill his stomach enough before dinner.
"Why? You don’t like eggs? Should I order something else for you?" Coco asked, her eyebrows furrowing slightly in worry as she slowly reached out towards the menu.
Jonathan was quick to swallow the food in his mouth and shook his head.
"No, no, no, no! It’s fine! These eggs are enough! Actually, the bread and juice is enough!" Jonathan stated, laughing nervously and shakily reaching out for another piece of bread.
"See? These are enough." Jonathan manages to mumble, picking up the wooden spoon and using it to place one egg on the bread before placing another piece of bread on top of the egg, making a quick runny egg sandwich.
Coco watched the mediator scramble to eat the egg sandwich, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
It was obvious for her that Jonathan made an excuse to stop her from saying words of praise and assurance, but she figured that seeing him trying to weasel his way out of the little mess he kind of made.
He ordered the eggs as an appetizer for her, but she knows that Jonathan will misunderstand and think that it was for him.
She didn’t mind and simply smiled, leaning her elbow on the table and leaning her chin on her palm while watching him eat his sandwich with obvious signs of awkwardness.
Teasing your friend isn’t bad, right?
While they are waiting for their dinner to be cooked, Coco and Jonathan are the eggs and the bread as they strike up a conversation with each other every once in a while, opting to focus more on their snacks rather than talking.
The main menu for dinner is roasted pork so it was taking a good while for the chef, En, to finish cooking.
Coco doesn’t mind how long they were waiting for the food to arrive because she knows that the wait is very worth it— the food is cooked by one of her favorite chefs after all.
At this point, the evening sky fell into night, the shadows creeping over the landscape as the sun slowly dipped below the horizon.
She could see the sky was a deep shade of navy, the few remaining clouds standing out against the dark background of the sky like puffs of cotton through the window, munching on the last bit of the bread she ordered.
The stars began to appear, their tiny points of light winking down at the world.
The window was slightly ajar so she could feel how the air turned cool and crisp, the evening breeze carrying a slight chill, compared to the air earlier.
The crickets began to chirp and the night deepened.
Not only did the sky change, their surroundings also got louder and booming with loud chatter and laughter.
The pub was more alive with activity despite the hour, the sound of laughter and conversation rising in a loud mix of sounds in the background.
The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the smell of ale and other scents filling the air.
Patrons and occupants alike filled the pub, their faces relaxed and cheerful, enjoying the lively atmosphere of the place.
The light was low, the space lit by flickering light in the ceiling and dim lamps, casting shadows on the wall and casting a soft, warm glow on the room— making the place look pleasing for the eyes.
If her sisters and mother were there, the three of them would have been giddy about themselves and would take a picture.
The place and the ambiance looked like it was ripped out of a fantasy book after all, and looked like it would be good for cosplayers to hang out at.
Flickering her gaze back to the mediator sitting across her, the smile on her face widened.
"Feeling hungry?" Coco asked, knowing full well what the answer would be based on how he stopped eating bread half an hour ago. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
"Kind of, yes." Jonathan answered truthfully, "I’m waiting for the dinner to be done so we can start eating. I didn’t want to be too full before eating what you ordered for us.. And I figured that you liked the eggs."
Coco nodded her head with a laugh. "Yeah, the eggs tasted good."
Jonathan smiled contently and watched his friend laugh to herself, satisfied about the outcome of his little excuse.
Thankfully, the food they were waiting for arrived at their table— the smell of the roasted pork wafting across the air and making their stomachs grumble.
"Enjoy the food to your heart’s content!"
