New World with Four Husbands-Chapter 181: Receiving payment
Chapter 181: Receiving payment
The pair of siblings standing side by side seemed to get bashful and embarrassed after being complimented by Coco.
Their faces flushed a deep red, a soft red tint colored their cheeks, a shy expression settling on their face as they tried to hide their reaction to the woman’s words, their gazes dropping down to their shoes as they shuffled awkwardly on their feet.
Neither of them knew how to react to the compliment, their words getting stuck in their throats as they attempted to respond.
They had received such attention before, but it was either lip service from other people who wanted to form connections with them so seeing someone compliment them sincerely, let alone from hardworking Coco, they were unsure how to react.
Their bashfulness was obvious, their faces red and their eyes avoiding looking in Coco’s direction.
"You two have similar face structures such as nose, eyes, and well, lips." Coco said, her voice dripping with genuine amazement as she smiled at them, "Though, the differences in personalities are large, I could still tell that you two are close."
The siblings fidgeted uncomfortably as they tried to compose themselves, their hands unconsciously playing with the fabric of their clothes as they avoided looking directly at Coco.
"It’s hard to explain, but you two do look alike!" Coco laughed, it was as if she was not annoyed at Drishti earlier because of his invasion and pushy behavior.
".. Thank you, Coco." Mrs. Tani managed to chuckle out as she reached out and patted her on the head, "I didn’t expect Coco Hughes to call me beautiful. You were so strict with your friendships that I thought I would always receive the other end of the stick."
Coco flinched and laughed nervously. "That’s because.. Well, I don’t want anyone to spread rumors. It’s completely alright with me if it was just me, but if my friends, too? That’s a different story."
"Oh." Mrs. Tani blinked and nodded her head in understanding, "So, that’s why my husband was happy to come home last night saying that you will be friends soon."
Coco smiled. "After I pay off all of my debt." freewёbnoνel.com
"Well, I’m sure that you’ll be able to pay off your debt today or tomorrow, depending on you." Mrs. Tani chuckled out and walked past Coco, "I’ll take the payment from the back. Would you mind bringing the basket inside?"
"Sure, no problem." Coco agreed almost immediately as she picked up the large basket filled with fruits easily, the heavy basket seemingly weightless in her arms.
Drishti observed the way she held the basket as if it was nothing more than a bag of feathers, her strength evident in her short stature and slender form as she carried the basket effortlessly.
He could see the exposed muscles flexing as she shifted her grip on the basket, her expression showing no signs of fatigue or discomfort as she carried the heavy load.
"Where do I put this?" Coco asked and followed behind the merchant closely, her footsteps light against the floor.
"Just put it anywhere you think it would be safe with." Mrs. Tani hummed out, leading her inside the room that is reserved for the owner and her staff.
Since Drishti doesn’t have anything to do inside the store, he followed suit and invited himself inside the staff room, plopping himself down on the single couch and making himself feel at home.
Coco crouched down and placed the basket carefully on the side where a bit of sunlight was peaking through the window blinds.
"I’ll have the money ready in a bit, Coco." Mrs. Tani called out as she approached one of the drawers inside the room, the sound of the drawer being pulled open filling the air for a moment.
"Take your time." Coco said, standing up and straightening her posture.
It wasn’t even a minute since the merchant told her that she will have the money ready when she approached Coco, holding a red expensive looking pouch.
"Here." Mrs. Tani handed the pouch to Coco.
Coco accepted the pouch of money from the merchant’s hands, her fingers gripping the red leather pouch and weighing the coins inside.
The sound of jingling metal filled the air as the coins shifted around in the pouch, the weight of the coins feeling hefty in her palm as she gripped the pouch tightly, making the corner of her lips twitch.
She held it in her hand for a moment, her eyes darting to the pouch’s weight before she placed the money pouch into her pocket, the sound of metal against metal as the coins inside shifted around.
"It’s always nice doing business with you." Coco stated, smiling softly towards the merchant who returned the smile immediately.
"Likewise, Coco." Mrs. Tani chuckled as she nodded her head, "All of my patrons love the fruits you grow."
Coco’s smile twitched slightly. "That’s a relief—"
"Are you two done with the business stuff now?" Once again, Drishti had cut off Coco with his obnoxious chide.
"That was rude of you, Drishti." Mrs. Tani didn’t waste a second to scold her brother, her eyes squinting into a glare and throwing it directly at Drishti.
"How? Doesn’t she deserve this kind of treatment after embarrassing her mother? Isn’t that why I was sent here by our father? Because Baroness Hughes lost contact with the mediators she sent here?" Drishti threw several questions in the air.
"What?" Mrs. Tani looked at her brother.
Coco blinked and turned her head to look at Drishti, her eyebrows raised to her hairline as she stared at the man sitting lavishly at the couch.
"Is it okay for you to reveal your scheme in the presence of your target?" Coco asked, tilting her head in wonder.
The sound of the coins shifting inside the pouch echoed through the room as she moved.
Drishti’s face twisted in disbelief, not expecting for Coco to be worried about that instead of the fact that her mother sent him to spy on her.
