Chapter 178: A beautiful man [3]
The man leans forward.
"Do I look intimidating to you? I have asked Demi to know what to wear or say to not make anyone feel afraid of me and followed the instructions she sent me.." He mumbled the words under his breath as he frowned, " Perhaps I did something wrong?"
He let out a sigh and backed away from Coco’s space. "She told me that I only need to dress myself like how the villagers would dress themselves.. But I take it that I did not dress the same as you and the others?"
Coco looked at the man for a brief moment, her expression completely deadpan.
Is he actually serious? Coco thought to herself, her right eyebrow twitching a few times before she looked away from him.
She was almost amused by his sheer ridiculousness, the words he had uttered were both hilarious and completely beyond her comprehension— did he seriously think that she was afraid of him?
Well, she was wary of him because she knows that he is a part of the nobility, but she was not intimidated.
She couldn’t understand how he could take himself seriously when he looked like how a noble with high status would look, the clash of colors and textures on his body like a bad acid trip— announcing to everyone that he is someone important.
It took all her strength to keep herself from bursting out into hysterics, her face betraying no emotion even though she felt like she was about to explode with suppressed laughter.
The man’s appearance was beyond normal to what people of Yogusho Village would wear. freewebnøvel.com
His clothing was too expensive looking and formal for a small shop to be considered as one of them, and not only that, his manner was too confident and too loud.
She couldn’t help but find his behavior laughable, his demeanor so out of place in the small shop that it was almost comical.
She looked at him stoically, her face betraying no emotion, her gaze calm and blank.
The man was thrilled that the woman whom he was trying to get to talk to was finally looking at him, his ego inflated with the knowledge that she could not help, but pay attention to him.
However, his satisfaction was short-lived as he quickly realized that despite her gaze being fixed on him, he found it impossible to read her expression.
His face twisted as he frowned deeply, his eyes narrowing as he tried to guess what she was thinking at the moment and searching for some hint of emotion or thought in her blank eyes.
"Why are you looking at me like that..?" It was quite clear that the man’s confidence faltered slightly as he failed to assume what she was thinking.
He couldn’t understand why she was so unresponsive to his attempts to have a conversation with her; he was used to people being intimidated by his appearance and bearing, but the woman before him was entirely different.
He felt a sense of unease creep into his mind, his usual assuredness replaced by an unfamiliar worry.
Maybe I should have just worn what I usually wear.. He thought, wondering if his usual tactics were having no effect on her or if she was just really good at hiding what she was feeling behind an expressionless face.
Looking away from him once more, Coco decided to focus on the magic stones by the display shelves again.
It was nice to have someone as expressive as the man beside her while she was waiting for the merchant to get back from whatever errand she made.
She doesn’t know how bored she would have been if the man did not show up and decided to bother her.
The man felt frustrated as Coco unceremoniously looked away from him again, the brief moment of eye contact broken in an instant because of some stones.
He had hoped to get some kind of reaction from her after her question— to get some hint of what was going on in her head, but her indifference was infuriating him to the core, making him feel ticked off.
He clenched his fist, his irritation growing as she resumed her blank-faced staring into the magic stones behind the glass display he was leaning into, it was as if he was completely uninteresting to him and it bothered him deeply, his ego bruised by her lack of interest.
Coco could see the shift in the man’s mood by corner of her vision, noticing the way he tightened his hands into a tight ball.
The corner of her lips twitched slightly, feeling her confidence boosting because she made a spoiled rotten man upset by simply pretending that he doesn’t exist in her world.
Why would he be upset anyway?
He’s not even one of Coco Hughes’ husbands so he doesn’t have the right to sulk beside me. Coco thought, her hand reaching up to clench her fingers around the basket straps.
"You’re frustrating." The man muttered under his breath and shot Coco a glare over his shoulder, "I just wanted to know if you’re the infamous Coco Hughes, but you still refuse to answer and chose to ignore me?"
The man’s anger and frustration boiled over as Coco seemed to deliberately ignore him, her attention focused on anything, but him— her lack of attention felt like a slap in the face.
He felt like he was unworthy of even being acknowledged, her disregard making him feel insignificant and petty.
He backed away from the seemingly fragile counter and could feel his hands clenched into fists at his sides, his body tense with irritation as he glared at Coco.
The man’s pride was hurt, his ego bruised by Coco’s cold and blatant ignorance— her eyes trained on the magic stones.
Annoyance washed over him as he watched her pay attention to other things.
He opened his mouth, his eyebrows furrowed as he said, "Are they that more interesting than my questions?"
Coco only hummed to answer him.
