New World with Four Husbands-Chapter 156: Thugs [2]
Chapter 156: Thugs [2]
"Coco Hughes!" The guards by the gate greated her as she approached them.
"Good afternoon." Coco greeted them back politely with a smile, "I’m here for the men whom I bought here last time. Are they still here? I have some unfinished business with them that I have been postponing because I was busy."
At her words, the guards demeanor drastically changed.
The guards’ smiles vanished from their faces and they flinched in their spot, discreetly sharing a glance towards each other to which Coco noticed immediately, making her raise an eyebrow at them and tilt her head to the side.
"Is something the matter?" Coco asked, keeping the friendly smile on her face.
One of the guards cleared his throat and turned his attention back to Coco, his face pale and he was sweating profusely as he looked at her.
"We.. We haven’t freed them yet." He stammered out and cast his gaze to the ground, "But they were hard to contain inside the cells because.. Well, they are a group of hunters that just got back from the main city."
Coco’s eyebrows shot up to her hairline at the words she heard, causing for her shoulders to shake slightly.
"They just got back from the main city?" Coco asked and smiled softly towards them, "Yet, they had the guts to do those things to my husbands? Is that the behavior of hunters that had a taste of city life?"
Coco talked to the guards, her demeanor composed and seemingly friendly, her smile never faltering and disarming with her gaze bright and excited.
However, the guards were on edge, their hands gripping their weapons tightly, their eyes wary as they watched her every move.
Her words were smooth and calm, but their tone held an underlying weight, a hint of command that made their hearts race,— a sense of danger that made them unconsciously want make themselves appear small before her.
"Haha, you see, I’m also planning to go to the main city." Coco hummed out as she tilt her head and smiled wider towards them, "Since I’m already here to pay them a visit, I’m thinking that I should also ask them what I need to do to prepare myself for the departure."
Despite the pleasant expression on Coco’s face, the guards couldn’t shake the feeling that she was a danger, a dangerous person waiting to be sprung like a trap.
Her every word seemed calculated, her gaze sharp and calculating, despite the pleasant facade she presented.
The guards could sense that the Coco Hughes in front of them was not one to be trifled with and they found themselves unconsciously taking a step away from her, unconsciously wary of her presence.
"Would it be alright for me to go inside and have a quick chat with them?" Coco before them with a friendly smile on her face, her expression deceptively cheerful and inviting.
However, as she moved closer, a subtle shift in her energy was noticeable.
It was as though the smile was a lure, designed to entice them in only to ensnare them in a web of power and control— to trap them and never let them get away with whatever crime they committed against her. freeweɓnøvel.com
Despite their senses screaming at them to not let the woman before them go inside the prison, they couldn’t say the words out loud out of fear of putting themselves in danger.
So, all they could do is nod their heads fervently.
Coco blinked and kept the smile still on her face as she slipped her hand inside of her pocket, she bought out two orange from her inventory and it appeared in her hand.
"As a thank you gift, please have this." Coco said and handed the two oranges to the guards, "Snack on that while I go and have a lovely conversation with those hunters, okay? I promise I will be as quick as I can."
The guards nodded their heads once more as they accepted the citrus fruits from Coco.
"I’ll bring you to them." One of the guards offered and reluctantly started walking towards the nearest building by the gate where the village prison was built underground.
Coco hummed and followed behind the guard, the smile on her face vanishing for a moment.
She still can’t believe what she heard from them.
Those men came from the city? Harassed Alhai and Heiren? Because of they came back from the place where money circulates like running water?
Coco may be jumping to conclusions, but that was only because she need an outlet to let out the pent up frustration and sadness that she had forced deep down inside her heart so she could adjust to the new world as quick as possible.
She knew that violence isn’t the answer— she was a pacifist in her past life for fuck’s sake! However, the thought of those two mediators almost getting violated only fueled her pent up emotions.
The sound of keys jingling and lock clicking made her snap out of her inner turmoil.
She was quick to force another friendly smile on her face as the guard opened the door for her and turned to her, a wary expression still on his face.
".. Please don’t make too much mess." The guard muttered, somehow, he could tell that Coco wouldn’t be as quick as she told them, but would rather take her time having a ’conversation’ with those men who messed with her husbands.
The guard shuddered, already feeling pity towards the men by their cell.
"A mess? Me? Really?" Coco laughed halfheartedly as she point a finger at herself, "I don’t make a mess whenever I converse with people, silly."
"O-oh.. Well then, have.. Fun..?" The guard laughed nervously before scurrying away.
"He told you to have fun." Lala mumbled as she giggled and placed herself on top of Coco’s head, "So, you should go and have fun inside, Coco."
"Oh, I will have fun, alright." Coco hummed and stepped inside the building.
