Chapter 154: Under the weather [2]

"Are you okay, Coco?"

Ever since Coco left the butcher shop, the basket filled with fruits perched on her shoulders and a concerned fairy flying beside her head, she has been quiet and tense.

She needs to clear her mind as soon as possible, everything seems to remind her of her family that it’s clouding her mind and hindering her, making her unable to do the things she needs to do to earn money.

I’ll clear my mind later. Coco thought, her footsteps light and quick as she made her way to Magia Pierre.

She went to the magic stone shop earlier to drop off the basket, but the merchant was nowhere to be seen, only an empty basket sitting right beside the desk.

Now, she would normally ask for permission before she used something that wasn’t hers, but the basket itself had a note with her name engraved on it so obviously, she assumed that it was hers.

She didn’t want to make several trips out of the village just to get the mangled meats out of her inventory so she took the basket and placed all of them inside.

Of course, she dropped off the dead flying pig first in the butcher shop before she went ahead and went outside the village to pour all the monster meat inside the basket, then went back inside the village to drop the meat on the butcher shop.

She only planned to drop off the meat and be on her way so she didn’t expect that she would feel even more upset after her conversation with Jacques.

Sighing weakly through her nose, Coco nodded her head to answer the garden fairy’s question.

In return, the corner of Lala’s lips curled down in discontentment and her eyebrows furrowed in frustration as she stared at Coco, a look of disbelief crossing her adorable features.

It was obvious that her human friend wasn’t feeling well, but she still chose to lie through her teeth and say that she’s okay.

She couldn’t ask a follow up question after that because they had arrived at Magia Pierre.

"Welcome to Magia Pierre." The merchant greeted them without looking up from the papers in front of her, "Please have a look around and tell me if you have something that caught your eye."

Coco walked over to the desk and placed the basket down on the floor with a quiet thump.

The sound caught the merchant’s attention which caused her to glance towards the source of the noise, and she was evidently surprised when she saw Coco standing in front of her with a basket filled with pink skinned fruits.

"Oh, Coco." Mrs. Tani blinked in shock, "I wasn’t expecting you to come back this early."

She glanced outside for a moment and looked back at Coco, "Well, it’s not that I mind. I take it that you also bought a monster back?"

Coco nodded her head and cleared her throat, "I took the basket that was sitting there earlier. I had some extra monster meat that I needed to get, but I don’t have anything that I could carry it with. I hope you don’t mind."

"It’s fine, it’s fine." Mrs. Tani raised a hand and waved her worry off dismissively, "I figured that it was you who took the basket anyways."

Coco nodded her head once more and looked away. "I bought the fruits back, I’ll be on my way now."

".. I’ll have the payment ready tomorrow." Mrs. Tank said, her voice dripping with uncertainty as she glanced at Coco with a worried gaze, "If you don’t mind me asking.. Are you okay, Coco? You look.. Off."

Coco walked towards the door and could only nod her head as a response, not trusting her voice to work.

Mrs. Tani saw the subtle action and in return, she let out a sigh. "I see.. Well, if you need something, just have my husband send it to you."

Coco didn’t respond to that and exited the shop, her feet immediately propelling forward and carrying her towards the Red Horse Inn so she could drop off the strange egg in her room.

It was a strange feeling. Coco thought and shifted her gaze to the sky. free𝑤ebnovel.com

The feeling of being so drained and empty to the point that she can’t force a smile or stop herself from tearing up was truly strange for her.

She didn’t have to stop herself from crying before because either Corinne or Cauina would be there to soothe her from crying too much, or Mama Coison would be there to make her feel better with her hugs.

It was strange.

Coco looked away from the sky, not finding the canvas of pink, orange, blue, and red beautiful.

It was just grey for her eyes.

I need to stop feeling like this soon. Coco told herself as she stepped inside the inn, the sound of obnoxious laughters and chatters reaching her ears almost immediately.

She walked through the lobby to get to the staircase, not even bothering to look at Ruby or Joachim who looked like they had something to say, but held themselves back when they saw that something was wrong with her.

The distant look in her eyes made Joachim frown.

"Was it just me or does Coco look sad?" The mediator asked the woman beside him, "It wasn’t just me, right? There was no smile on Coco’s face today.. Ever since this morning."

".. I haven’t seen her smile today either, sir." Ruby agreed with her employer’s statement.

"So, it wasn’t just me." Joachim said, huffing out of worry as he watched Coco ascend the stairs in a hurry, the same blank expression that he saw this morning still on her face.

"I hope she’s okay." The mediator mumbled under his breath as he shook his head.

"Maybe she was just feeling under the weather, sir." Ruby stated, trying to cheer her employer up so he won’t start stressing himself out.

"Under the weather, huh?" Joachim mumbled, "I hope so."
