New World with Four Husbands-Chapter 128: An attempt to avoid him [2]
Chapter 128: An attempt to avoid him [2]
Coco ripped the crocodile’s tough hide piece by piece, ripping it like it was just a single sheet of thin paper.
She kept her back to the little boy the entire time, making sure that her eyes were focused on the monster before her and just taking all the tough hide off the meat under it.
However, even if she was adamantly ignoring the child’s presence, he was stubborn.
"This is the first time I saw a monster like that this close! What do you call that monster, miss?" The little boy asked, his eyes wide in wonder as he stared at the way Coco’s hands tightened on the tail before ripping off the armor.
Coco didn’t answer him and continued to do what she needed to do, her hands working wonders.
"You know, the meat you bought to Chief Salamandara yesterday tasted so good! Then, I found out from the old woman by the next door that you caught them just yesterday, too! Are all your catches fresh?" The child asked once more, changing the question.
Seeing that Coco seems focused on her task and won’t answer him, he puffed out his cheeks and crossed his arms, feeling quite upset at the fact that the woman before him wouldn’t bat an eye in his direction.
The villagers have been attentive to his wants and needs ever since he arrived yesterday! How come Coco Hughes won’t answer him or entertain his questions?
"I heard from one of the kind gentlemen that you sell fruits and vegetables! Do you go outside the village to get them? How do you grow them?" He pushed his luck and asked another question, forcing a smile on his face just in case Coco turns to face him.
Coco let out a yawn, a look of boredom crossing her features for a moment before it disappeared.
The little boy gasped audibly, his face flushing with color at the reaction he received from the woman who was working on the tough crocodile.
His hands balled up to a fist by his side, his temper slowly getting the best of him.
Just why is she stubborn and kept ignoring him? Don’t people love children like him? Didn’t she compliment him and called him cute yesterday? Why is she ignoring him now? After all the words of advice she said yesterday?
No! Keep your cool, Rey! This is not how a noble mediator like you should act— be cool, be calm! The little boy mused to himself, taking a deep breath through his nose.
Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale.
He repeated the process a couple of times before he completely calmed down, his supposedly rising anger diminishing after his breathing exercise and the previous cheerful smile went back to his face.
"Miss! Are you busy after this? Do you have something to do? Are you available? Can you play with me?" Rey used his looks, batting his long eyelashes towards Coco and hoped that it would work like how it worked for the other villagers.
Chirp. Chirp. Chirp.
Coco was still silent after pulling such tricks, her hands splitting the head of the monster open by the wound on its forehead.
The little boy’s eyes were wide with shock and disbelief, his body frozen in fear as he watched the scene unfold before him— the woman, whom he had been bothering with a look of intense focus, used her bare hands to pry open the crocodile’s head.
Coco’s fingers dug into the tough scales as if they were made of paper which made the boy couldn’t believe the strength of the woman before him, her display of strength far beyond anything he had ever witnessed.
The little boy could see the brain of the crocodile being exposed, the slimy organ and shattered skull a nightmarish sight.
He felt nauseous, unbelievably shaken up and fed up at the fact that Coco had the nerve to do such a thing while he was in her presence! How could she?!
The blood sprayed all over the place! It got on the counter, on the wall, on her clothes, on her face— everywhere! What’s worse is that she looked like she didn’t mind the mess she made!
"You’re unbelievable!" Rey cried out, unshed tears prickling his eyes as he glared at Coco, "Do you dislike me that much that you’re willing to get this dirty?! How childish of you!"
He was sniffling, stomping his foot on the ground, fussing, and yelling at Coco when Jacques and Renaldo got back, carrying a bag of cooked food with a few snacks for both Coco and Rey.
"We’re back— oh, dear.. What happened?" Jacques asked, her eyebrows furrowed at the sight of the crying little boy and a bloody Coco. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
Coco perked up when she heard her friend’s voice. "You’re back! Finally!"
Coco dropped the crocodile’s brain at the side and dropped the scales she just removed from the crocodile’s head on the basin, letting them join their brothers and sisters.
"Yeah, we’re back.. And you look like you had fun." Renaldo commented as he raised an eyebrow towards Coco’s state.
Jacques dropped the food they brought to the table and walked to Rey, hushing him and trying to calm him down because his eyes were turning red.
"I did have fun— wait, let me just tidy myself up." Coco said and rushed to the sink, washing off the blood off her, scrubbing her skin with the soap resting by the side before rinsing the bubbles off and washing her face.
When she was done, she was wet with water dripping from her face down to her neck and had her bloody robe take off which only left her with a loose linen shirt under.
"So? Care to explain why Rey was crying?" Jacques questioned, a sniffling little boy attached to her hip.
For the first time ever since he got inside the butcher shop, Coco’s gaze shifted from Jacques to the little boy with furrowed eyebrows.
"I’m not good with kids."
