Chapter 126: Quarrel

Coco and Zaque froze when they heard someone speaking somewhere in the stairs.

"Alhai." Zaque said, acknowledging the third husband and proceeded to pick up a slice of bread to start spreading some chocolate on it for Coco, "Come and join us."

"Why is she here again?" He narrowed his eyes towards Coco and descended the stairs, "I thought she leaves early in the morning to go to the mountain? It’s almost breakfast time for everyone, but she’s still here, being friendly with you."

"I’m waiting for Heiren to wake up." Coco decided to answer the questions herself since she has a mouth that works fine, "I was not careful enough in my hunt yesterday and got hurt, Heiren volunteered to clean my wounds for me."

"So, he’s delaying your departure?" Alhai raised an eyebrow, the usual glare returning to his face.

"No, not really." Coco smiled at him and tilted her head, "I’m not planning to go to the mountain today, I catched two monsters yesterday so I don’t have to catch anything today, I have fruits planted somewhere in the forest and I could just go there to harvest them."

Alhai’s hands balled into fists by his side, his eyebrows furrowing in annoyance at how cheeky the answer was.

"I see." He grunted out and turned away, "Good for you, having not to worry what to do for today when you still haven’t paid off your debt."

Coco’s right eye twitched, the taunting of the man before her working a little.

"I’m already paying for it so you don’t have to worry about it." Coco assured him, the smile on her face was now strained and forced, "You just have to focus on the books I bought for you since you love reading so much, right?"

"What books?" Alhai raised an eyebrow at her as he feigned the look of confusion on his face, "Ah, those books.. I haven’t read them, they look completely boring to me."

".. I spent thirty gold coins on those books." Coco stated, a blank expression on her face.

Alhai and Zaque had their eyes going as wide as saucers, not expecting a large amount of coins to be spent on the books, but it was also the reason why Zaque snapped his head at Alhai’s direction.

Alhai simply looked away, sweating bullets.

"Those books were signed and original copies from the author himself so you better read it." Coco added on to the previous statement, a pointed look thrown in Alhai’s way as she stared at him.

"Don’t worry, Coco." Zaque smiled at her and closed his eyes, "Alhai will read those books. Isn’t that right, Alhai?"

Alhai bit the inside of his lower lip and glared at Zaque, but slowly, he nodded his head, albeit forcefully, to answer his question nonverbally.

"Aha! See?" Zaque chuckled and gestured towards Alhai who was glaring daggers at Coco, "He had given you the assurance that he will indeed read that expensive book he asked you to buy for him."

Coco smiled, pleased that she was assured by the two of them even though Alhai was glaring at her the whole time.

"Thank you." Coco expressed sincere gratitude towards Zaque and ignored the daggers thrown her way by Alhai, "I feel assured that you were the person in charge of a person who resembles a dog in terms of personality."

Zaque’s eyes went wide for the nth time that morning and this time, the cause was the underlying insult towards the third husband.

"Please keep working hard. It motivates me that the people I’m providing for are working hard. It makes all the exhaustion and trouble I go through worth it." Coco beamed at him, laughing wholeheartedly to herself when she felt the glares had grown worse after her insult.

"Haha.." Zaque laughed awkwardly as he placed down a chocolate sandwich, "I will.. You’re welcome, I guess?"

"Mhm, good, good." Coco continued to smile at him while reaching out for the sandwich, grabbing it and taking a big bite out of it and moaning in delight, "The bread you make really is the best in this village."

"So fake." Alhai commented under his breath and plopped himself on a vacant chair.

"Oh, you’re saying that Zaque makes the worst bread instead? Oh, my! I didn’t know that you could harbor such thoughts towards your friend, Alhai!" Coco bellowed towards him with a dramatic sigh.

"What? I was talking about you—" Alhai growled at her, but she had cut him off again.

"Oh, no! Does that mean you wouldn’t eat any of the bread on this table? Well, more for me!" Coco exclaimed as she raised her voice to purposely cut him off and grabbed the nearest plate of bread away from him.

"I didn’t say any of that, Coco!" Alhai hissed as he stood up again and slammed his hand on the table, "Give me that bread! I’m hungry!"

"But you said Zaque’s bread was fake!" Coco playfully hissed back and held out the plate of bread away from Alhai’s reach, smirking in triumph when a look of agitation crossed his handsome feature.

"You’re so childish!" Alhai hissed again and plopped back to his seat, "I can’t believe you’re acting like this! What are you? A child? You’re no different from those annoying brats!"

"Thanks! I live off from making people like you furious!" Coco beamed at him as she placed the plate down on the table, just in time for Zaque to place a teacup down in front of Alhai, still steaming with transparent puffs of hot air.

"You better kick her out as soon as Heiren wakes up." Alhai grumbled towards Zaque, temporarily forgetting that he was supposed to be ignoring him. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

"I don’t have to kick her out because she will have to leave once Heiren is done dressing her wounds." Zaque hummed out, taking a seat on the end of the table so he was kind of sitting between Alhai and Coco.

"Aww, but I would love to stay!"
