Chapter 123: New mediator in town [3]

"Hello, Coco Hughes." A deep feminine voice reached Coco’s ears.

A woman with strikingly purple hair that hung down to her shoulders, the locks framing her face perfectly greeted Coco’s eyes, making her jaw drop.

The woman’s muscular build and darkly bronzed skin were highlighted by a pair of golden eyes, her muscles were visible even through her shirt with her biceps strained against the sleeves of her clothing.

Though, despite being muscular, her body was lean, her muscles clearly defined and she moved with elegance and grace, her movements fluid that befitting those noble ladies she often encounters whenever she reads novels.

Not only that, the woman’s hair managed to frame her face perfectly, drawing attention to her sharp cheekbones and strong jaw, making her undeniably pretty, her features strong and defined, but still feminine.

How come Coco has not encountered such fine specimens in all of her times in the village? Just where was this beauty hiding?!

She has been staying in the village for who knows how long and all the people she had encountered so far were either old or were already associated with the old Coco Hughes!

Coco inhaled sharply, forcing herself to stay in reality.

"He.. Hello, Cheap-p— chief." Coco stammered out, accidentally biting her tongue in the process.

She immediately felt her cheeks heating up from the embarrassment she felt, having messed up in front of a beautiful woman and apparently, the person who holds the most power in the village.

The little boy and the chief blinked when they heard the little mess up in Coco’s greetings, their reactions being an understatement.

They have heard how much of a strong and powerful person Coco Hughes has changed to be for the past few weeks, but the person in front of them is far from those rumors where they heard that she was as intimidating as the thugs in their village.

In fact, Coco Hughes looked like she was a frightened little chick in front of two predatory eagles, as if scared to make a move.

"Haha!" The chief couldn’t help, but burst out laughing.

The sound of her laugh made Coco jump in her spot and made her want the ground to swallow her whole, the embarrassment she was feeling going over to the roof to the sky.

"Oh, my! Haha! You’re so different from what I have heard! Haha!" The chief laughed loudly, her obnoxious laughter echoing in the hall as she held a hand over her stomach, "I was told that you can lift a flying pig! So, I expected you to look as big as me!"

Coco kept her mouth shut, her body shaking at the thought being the cause of the chief’s laughter.

The little boy seemed to notice her predicament and turned to the chief. "Stop it, Chief Salamandara. Can’t you see that she’s embarrassed? Cease your laughter and do it later."

His words only made Coco want to be buried alive even more.

She can’t believe that a child took notice of her embarrassment and called the chief out for laughing! She could just die right then and there, and she would thank whatever caused that death!

"Oh!" The chief stopped laughing and cleared her throat, "Do forgive me for such misconduct in my behavior."

"It.. It’s okay." Coco squeaked out, just wanting to get this interaction dealt with so she could run back to the inn, bury herself in her bed and beat herself up about it.

"No, really." The chief insisted with an apologetic smile, "I’m really sorry. If I knew I was causing discomfort, I wouldn’t have laughed at you. You were just so adorable that I couldn’t help myself."

"It’s really okay— here! Renaldo told me to deliver this..!" Coco spoke quickly and thrusted the bag of meat towards the village chief’s arms, "Now, I’ll be on my way!"

She was fast to turn around and run away, however.. Someone else was faster than her.

"Rogue!" The little boy called out and almost immediately, Coco was restrained, locked in a pair of muscular arms and had her pressed against someone’s chest.

"Sorry, my lady." The man spoke to her ears and he tightened his arms around her, "Young master’s order comes first."

Coco didn’t care for any of that though, her mind could only think of how painful was the pressure on her back, making her frown and wince in pain— the bandages were pressing so hard on her skin that she’s more than sure that she was bleeding once again.

"My wounds!" Coco cried out, her eyes glossing with tears as she twisted suddenly, her body moving in a blur of motion as she broke from the man.

Coco’s body twisted out of the hold with a strength that was almost too strong for a woman of her size, the movement happening too fast for the eye to follow, freeing herself from the hold and retreating from the man. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com

"You’re hurt?!" The little boy asked, his voice shaking with nervousness and worry, "I didn’t know! I’m so sorry!"

"Isn’t it obvious that she was hurt?! You big duffos! She just got herself treated and now, she’s hurt again!" A certain fairy screeched towards the little boy, her voice high-pitched with fury as she was held back by Coco.

"Why would you order that man to hold me?" Coco glared at the little boy, "It’s disrespectful to do this to someone you have just met."

"I.. I just didn’t want you to leave just yet.. I’m so sorry!" The little boy looked guilty, the corner of his lips turning downwards as he looked down on the ground, "This.. This is how I usually make friends.."

Coco frowned and turned to the chief. "Aren’t you his guardian or something?"

Chief Salamandara blinked and shook her head rapidly. "He just got here today— he came from a noble family if you couldn’t tell so his way of things is different."

Coco’s face turned white. "He’s the guest..?"

"He sure is."
