Chapter 104: Getting to know him

Heiren leads Coco to the farthest east side of the village which has a few run down houses— much worse than Coco Hughes’s house that looked like the inhabitants are thugs.

The area was clearly one of the worst parts of the village, the buildings crumbling and the streets rough and uneven, but Coco walked as if she was sightseeing, her head looking left and right, her body language not betraying any fear or concern.

She walked through the narrow streets of the village, her body moving with strange confidence— looking arrogant and out of place.

Despite the heavy and chaotic atmosphere of the area, the woman didn’t seem fazed nor bothered, her eyes were fixed forward, her expression almost aloof as she took in the sights and sounds around them.

"Why did this man lead you here, Coco?" Lala asked, her voice shaking slightly as she tightened her grip on Coco’s hair strand.

Coco doesn’t know what to say, but Heiren looked like he knew where he was going so she didn’t say anything.

Even if Coco wants to disagree with Heiren’s request, the quest scroll was right in front of her, flapping and floating in the air as if reminding her about her task.

Coco couldn’t do anything, but suck it up like an independent woman and finish what was given to her.

With that said, she looked around the area and let out a sigh through her nose, her eyebrows creasing in concern as she wondered how Heiren knew this kind of place.

Coco glanced over her shoulder and looked at Heiren, her eyes immediately catching how he fidgets and plays with his sleeves while he looks around, as if he was looking for a possible threat.

Although, the only threat around them is Coco herself.

They continue to walk and as they go deeper in the area, Heiren slowly starts to gravitate towards her.

Of course, Coco noticed this, but she didn’t say anything.

Then, all of a sudden, Heiren suddenly stopped in front of one of the wrecked houses that lined the street, making her steps halted as she also stopped in front of the house.

Coco blinked and turned to analyze the appearance of the house— the windows were broken and boarded up, the porch adorned with decorations while the boarded windows adorned with curtains.

It was clear that this house belonged to someone.

"Is this it?" Coco asked and turned to Heiren, cocking her head to the side.

Even from the outside, there was a weird sense of danger that surrounded the building, making it give off a suffocating air.

Heiren pursed his lips and nodded his head, his eyebrows furrowed in an unreadable expression.

Coco let her gaze glued to him for a moment, her mind racing with negative thoughts of being sold off to the gangster of the village.

However, Coco smiled softly and looked away.

I’m the notorious trash of the village! No one is worse than Coco Hughes here so it’s impossible for whoever’s behind that door to casually beat me up! The woman thought, her body buzzing with enthusiasm.

Coco hummed and stared at the wooden door. "What are we going to get from him again?"

Heiren has not said anything about the item that he needs to get, but Coco followed him blindly because he looked like he was in a hurry.

Besides, she needs to deal with the quest as soon as possible so she could leave to go to the mountain and get anything she could from her little garden.

So, despite the obvious sign of threat that seemed to radiate from the house, Coco didn’t pay any mind to the danger, her eyes steady as she stepped up to the building’s front door with a smile.

She raised her hand and knocked on the door, her hand curling into a ball as she rapped against the wood with a measured beat.

Knock.

Knock.

Knock.

Knock.

"Do you want to build a snowman—" Coco was about to sing a song, but was cut off.

The door was suddenly thrown open with a loud creak, the figure standing in the doorway was a sight to behold that made Coco take a step back.

The man was intimidating, his broad shoulders and tall frame making him seem almost twice the size of a normal man, his bulky form filling the doorway— his arms are covered in littered inks and his fingers adorned with rings.

His face was set in a hard expression, his eyes fixed on the woman with a steely look, narrowing slightly as he caught sight of the seemingly bubbly woman standing on the other side of the door.

However, even with the man’s size and intimidating appearance, Coco stood her ground, her expression remaining beaming brightly.

As if she was not bothered by the man’s presence.

"Hello, good sir!" Coco greeted her, the tone of her voice cheerful and excited.

The man blinked, silent for a good second before he looked away from and glanced at the mediator behind her.

"Oh." He said as a look of recognition crossed his features when his eyes landed on Heiren. "It’s you."

Heiren flinched when he heard the man’s words and shuffled closer to Coco, his right hand gripping the basket’s lid.

"I’m here, too." Coco said to the man. freewēbnoveℓ.com

"I know, but if you’re here to have the job done, then sorry to disappoint because I don’t do miscellaneous tasks anymore." The man stated as he crossed his arms.

Coco blinked and nodded her head in understanding. "I see.. Then you don’t work for anyone anymore?"

Despite his intimidating appearance, the man’s expression held a hint of exhaustion, the stress of his lifestyle clear on his face.

"Yeah." The man hummed out and looked at Heiren, "The little mediator behind was the last person to hire me."

Coco nodded again and turned to Heiren. "What did you ask for this man to do?"

"To get the book that originally belongs to me."
