My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World-Chapter 174: Ichiro and the Headmaster
Chapter 174: Ichiro and the Headmaster
When I arrived at the headmaster’s office, there was a reception with a woman right next to the massive double doors.
She was writing on some documents using magic, which was pretty cool, but I interrupted her concentration when I asked if I could meet with the headmaster.
The lady looked at me for a brief second and continued her work.
"Sure. It’s a two-week waiting list... Name?" she said, not looking at me anymore.
"Uhhh, two weeks is a lot. This is pretty urgent." I continued, but the lady didn’t seem to care about my problems and just repeated the same line as before.
I sighed and snapped my fingers, using gravity magic to open the double doors, and slowly walked towards it as it opened. Still, the lady couldn’t care less about my actions.
’That is a very strange receptionist...’ I thought as I entered the office without resistance.
"Ah! An interesting visitor!" the voice of a man echoed throughout the office that was filled with bookcases brimming with tomes.
"Yeah, hello! I’m Ichiro... I was, uhhh, looking for the headmaster." I said to no one in particular since I couldn’t see anyone around me.
I could feel someone was in the room. I just couldn’t see them.
Suddenly, a strange portal appeared in front of me that looked like a crack in space with an unfamiliar purple energy surrounding it.
"Come on in!" the man said.
Without thinking too much about it, I stepped through the crack that seemingly defied reality and appeared in a place that looked exactly like the office I was just standing a second before, except it all looked as if it had gone through a dark camera filter with a purple lens.
Before me, an old man with a long white beard stood tall with a book in hand, wearing grey robes and holding a staff in his other hand.
His appearance reminded me of a certain wise old man from a fantasy story back in my world, as this guy had that very classical Sage look.
He introduced himself as Headmaster Devon and said that we were inside a spell he created himself, which he called "Home Dimension."
"Dimension? I see, so this is like another physical space on top of the one that already exists..." I said as I inspected my surroundings.
Devon looked surprised at my understanding of his spell. Apparently, nobody had been able to understand the nature of it without him explaining it to them.
Tapping his staff gently against the ground, the purple hue surrounding us disappeared, and we found ourselves back at the real office.
"I’ve been looking forward to meeting you, Mr Ichiro. I didn’t know you would come to me, though..." he said.
The man was aware of everything that had been happening at Kalusia all this time, which didn’t surprise me since I knew that the principals of the academies in the world were close to their respective royal families.
I told him about the damages that the country had received and went straight to the point.
"I wanted to ask you to excuse Melina from her lessons for a few weeks..." I said, elaborating further on my point.
We needed her magic to bring Kalusia back to its feet quickly. Even though I could have taken care of the task, it could take me months to finish, which would not only put the beastkins at risk, but the other nations would have to contribute even more.
I expected some sort of resistance from the old man, but he nodded affirmatively and said that if Melina was needed, then there was no choice but to allow her.
"She is a Sage, so it’s not my place anymore to tell her what to do..." Devon commented.
"So, you knew?" I asked.
He explained that when Melina fell unconscious from sending her MP to me on the other side of the continent, he visited their room to check up on her health and noticed a strange energy surrounding her while she slept.
"I recognized the energy instantly since I felt it too when I became a Sage. I suppose she must have received the book from Asys..." Devon continued.
"Well, yeah. She told me she spoke to him while she slept..." I said, making Devon widen his eyes with astonishment.
"What? She spoke with the God of Magic!?" he asked.
"Huh? Didn’t you also talk to him when you got the title?" I replied with another question.
From what he told me, he only received the book one time after completing the creation of his spell "home dimension," but he never received any sort of visit from the god himself.
I thought that the gods showed themselves to anyone who managed to acquire the titles related to them, but it seemed like I was wrong, as Devon said he had never spoken to him directly.
The Sage found our conversation way too interesting, and our topic at hand deviated for a moment.
Still, Devon said he would excuse Melina from her classes with no repercussions, but he asked a favor from me in return, which was actually what I expected he would say from the very beginning.
However, the favor he asked of me was something I would have never guessed, so I had to think about it for a moment.
’Hmmm, it doesn’t really sound like a bad deal...’ I thought.
"Let us keep it a secret for the time being..." Devon said, and I agreed, as it was a bit embarrassing.
Once we had settled our agreement, we kept talking for a bit longer about magic.
Devon was interested in seeing some of the magic I had created to obtain the "Sage" title, so I showed him some tricks with my gravity magic before finally returning to Melina’s room.
She hadn’t come back from her lessons, so I decided to wait for her on the balcony and relax for a little bit.
["Ichiro!"] the voice of Vespera echoed loudly in my head, breaking apart my peaceful moment.
["Oh, my bad guys! It’s taking me a bit longer than expected, but I’ll be back soon!"] I telepathically told my companions, whom I had promised I would return that morning.
