Chapter 163: Fire Awakening

After the MP that had been stored inside my Kraken Whisper Pearl activated, my body began absorbing it at a rapid pace, making me feel stronger and lighter.

Even when I was bleeding from my head and torso, the injuries didn’t hinder my movements, as I easily avoided the onslaught of Zagor’s attacks.

It was as if my body was moving on its own, gracefully sliding across the garden as the devil’s attacks missed their mark, angering him even more.

Suddenly, he stopped his barrage as his energy concentrated inside of his body, making him grow even larger in size and healing the burns on his face. However, his body seemed to still be hurt by the light laser beam.

The speed and strength of the devil increased dramatically, but I could still hold my own against him and block his incoming attacks as the garden around us was slowly turning to ruins.

Suddenly, the ground shook, and I spotted two massive Terra Titans that appeared on different sides of the city.

Zagor grinned. "What can you possibly do now? Kill the last guardian of Kalusia?" he said, letting out an unsettling chuckle.

"Better yet, allow him to kill the remaining beastkins?" he continued asking sarcastically while laughing.

The devil still believed that we had been killing all of the beastkin villagers on our way here, but now I knew that he also thought we had destroyed the titan’s hearts, making me smile slightly.

Right at that moment, before Zagor could ask me why I had a smile on my face, one of the Terra Titans received an impact on the chest that generated a loud sound and made the colossus take a step back.

It was the knights’ orders from Sephyr, who were flying around the battlefield to keep the titans busy while the foot soldiers took control of the streets.

"Man, you really are an idiot..." I muttered as I concentrated all the excessive amount of energy that coursed through my body.

"Did you really think I was going to kill all those innocent people to get to you?" I continued as wild flames started appearing around my body.

Zagor stood still for a brief moment with a serious expression as he listened to me mocking him while powering up.

I chuckled, both from the stupidity of the devil and from how good I was feeling with all that power surrounding me.

"Look around you, Zagor. Those beastkin you thought dead are back to take what’s theirs..." I said, covering my body with the flames that were around me.

Slowly, the energy seemed to burn into my body, and the heat it produced intensified.

It wasn’t ordinary fire that surrounded me. It was phoenix-fire.

The angrier I was at Zagor, the hotter it burned, giving me an understanding of what made the phoenix’s flame burn, even with a lack of oxygen.

’It’s emotions...’ I thought.

The stronger the emotions I felt, the more my phoenix-fire burned hot and covered my body.

It was as if my flesh was made of fire or if I was the flames itself, and when I swiped my hand to the side to dissipate the fiery energy around me, I was feeling amazing.

I inspected my hands, which seemed like they had caught fire, but they didn’t burn me at all.

The flames went from my palms all the way to my elbows. Still, I could feel the warmth enveloping my entire being.

"So, you hadn’t awakened..." Zagor commented with a serious tone.

"Heh..." I smiled, feeling the devil’s uncertainty.

I was still somewhat shocked by my transformation and kept looking at my hands, making Zagor relish that second to launch himself at me at an incredible speed with his morning star held high.

However, I raised my hand and pointed my finger up, creating a barrier of wildfire that halted his movement right before he could reach me.

Then, I jumped straight towards the devil, who was stumbling on his step back, and punched him in the face with a fiery fist that scorched half of it as I sent him flying back into the same empty fountain I crashed at before.

My movements were too fast for Zagor to keep up, and just as he did with me, I didn’t leave him any room to breathe, following my attack with another.

Before he could stand up from the ground, I jumped high into the air and crashed down with my feet first, landing on his stomach with a force that made him arch his body while the ground below him cracked.

Zagor covered himself with his nullifying energy and stood up, making me quickly step back so as not to get caught up in it.

The devil was still powering up even more, getting to the point where he almost matched my speed. Nonetheless, when we exchanged fists, he didn’t land a single hit, while I managed to break one of his horns with a flaming side kick.

As soon as his horn hit the ground, Zagor looked at it with a somber expression, then turned to me as his aura got extremely intense and unsettling, making me flinch momentarily since I had never felt anything like it.

"Insolence... A mere insect like you with your scrawny body!" he yelled, his voice sounding as if two devils were speaking at the same time while echoing throughout the destroyed garden.

Zagor clenched his fists tightly, and the burnt marks on his face and body started healing, so I pointed my finger at him and started shooting flaming lasers to break his concentration.

Nonetheless, it wasn’t as effective as I thought, as the devil started quickly avoiding my attacks by running around the garden while healing his injuries.

I used earth magic to raise walls from the ground that could stop his movement, but Zagor just ran through them like a truck, no matter how thick and sturdy I tried making them.

Suddenly, I felt a surge of demonic power, and in the blink of an eye, Zagor stood before me and landed a punch in my gut, pushing me back a few meters as I slid backward.

I held my hurting stomach and coughed a few drops of blood from the impact, but my awakening wasn’t letting me feel any pain other than mild discomfort.
