My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World-Chapter 161: The Devil, Zagor
Chapter 161: The Devil, Zagor
As Zagor stood up from his throne, Vespera and I stood frozen in fear for a few seconds, detailing the monster’s appearance.
"I’ve been expecting you, beastkin killer..." he said, locking his eyes with mine.
He was calling me "beastkin killer" because he believed that we had been eradicating the people he cursed.
Since we had to kill them and then bring them back to life to cleanse their curses, he was fooled and thought that we were just massacring everyone we found. Meaning that everything had gone exactly as we had planned.
"Heh..." I smiled as the tension from his imposing aura left my body. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
"In the end, you are just an idiot," I commented, unsheathing my dagger and preparing myself to rush at him.
However, before I could take one step, another massive monster came from outside and crashed through the window, wanting to attack me, but was stopped by Vespera’s quick reflexes.
My companion used her spider legs to block the incoming punch, and when I turned, I saw that it was yet another greater demon. However, this one looked much different than the other two.
His skin and horns were as black as charcoal, and his eyes were completely yellow, giving him an even more unsettling look.
"A black demon..." Vespera muttered as she kept facing the monster.
Black demons were another type of monster from their realm who were slightly stronger than their "greater" counterparts.
Their aura felt similar but just different enough to notice the distinction between the two types.
Zagor laughed after seeing my companion interject.
"You have quite the trophy. Since I lost one of my own, I suppose I’ll have to take that one from you." the devil said, referring to us killing Acalan, whom he considered a mere trophy.
"What?" I asked with anger.
Zagor nodded pridefully and hung his weapon on his shoulder. "A Queen Demon Spider is just the perfect addition to my collection, don’t you think?" he asked with a snide smile.
I had barely exchanged any words with the devil and already had enough of his comments.
"Vesp. You got it?" I asked my companion without taking my eyes off Zagor.
"Leave it to me," she replied confidently before launching herself at the black demon and landing a flying kick on his chest that pushed him back through a column and to the wall.
At the same time, I flew across the hall at maximum speed using a combination of fire and lightning magic and went for an overhead slice attack on Zagor, but he easily deflected it with his forearm.
Still suspended in the air, the devil used his other hand to punch me away, but I kicked his fist to the side and used it to jump back.
Right as I regained my footing, Zagor appeared in front of me with his morning star high in the air, making me raise my dagger laterally to protect myself, then slide to the side for a counterattack.
However, Zagor was extremely quick, even for his massive body, and was able to deflect my counterattack, following it up with one of his own.
The devil and I kept exchanging blows for minutes, with the wake of our attacks destroying a part of the throne and some of the columns that supported the frame of the hall. Nevertheless, none of us had managed to land a hit on the other.
Vespera had pushed the black demon through a window to the courtyard, leaving me and the devil to fight inside the hall to our hearts’ content.
Seeing that my martial arts skill alone wouldn’t be enough, which was expected, I started combining gravity magic with my attacks to slow down Zagor’s movement, leaving an opening for me to stab his chest with the mithril dagger.
However, the blade didn’t bury as much as I thought it would, and by the time the devil broke free from the gravity spell, I jumped back, leaving only a small cut.
Zagor smiled as he rubbed his chest with one finger, showing a hint of admiration at the fact that I managed to make him bleed, even if it was just a little.
I kept going with the same strategy of using gravity magic to slow him down while quickly slashing different parts of his body. Still, it was so durable that it felt as if I was trying to cut through metal, leaving only shallow cuts around his arms, legs, and back.
Worse than that, it was as if the devil was enjoying himself, which only made me more furious.
My mithril dagger wasn’t doing much for me, and since I couldn’t apply magic to it, I switched to my bo, believing that it could have a better effect on hurting the monster.
The bo was made with redwood from the great tree at End Forest and was supposed to be the second most durable wood in the world. But one thing I discovered during my time in this world was that it could become almost indestructible if I coated it with magic.
Zagor launched himself at me with his morning star in hand, swinging it to the side and making me block it with my magically enhanced bo, creating a shockwave that shook the floor and made the columns vibrate violently.
Once again, we exchanged an onslaught of quick attacks that slowly destroyed parts of the room around us.
When I used my gravity magic to slow down his movements, the devil coated his entire body with potent demonic energy that dispelled my attack, as if he had shattered the stream of MP that flowed out of my hand.
’How does he nullify my magic like that!?’ I thought, comparing it to the time my mithril dagger didn’t work on the greater demon from the factory.
The devil’s energy felt so much different from the usual MP that normal people produced that it was easy to tell that it wasn’t ordinary magic.
Still, I never thought that it would fall into a different category that would make it impervious to mithril and be able to nullify certain magical spells.
’There must be a limit to his power...’ I pondered as I kept avoiding Zagor’s attacks.
