Chapter 156: Melina’s Small Problem

It had been a few days since Melina received her first batch of black pearls from Ichiro, who was fighting in the war against the devil Zagor.

After Ichiro and his companions managed to lay their hands on a large supply of black pearls, they needed Melina’s assistance in cleansing them and turning them into golden pearls to cure the beastkin that had turned into lesser demons.

On the first day that the crate arrived, the princess skipped her lessons so she could stay in her room, cleansing the demonic pearls.

Her roommates, Yuki and Eve, decided not to bother her as she worked, noticing how they had never seen Melina so focused on a task before.

They knew that Melina felt bored in her classes at the academy since her magical prowess put her at a level that was above the professors, so they had never seen Melina put genuine effort into something.

Once Melina had spent a few days cleansing the black pearls in her room, she reached a point where she mastered the enchantment and was able to cast it while holding a friendly conversation on the side.

Luca, the Prince of Vista, wondered what Melina was up to as she wasn’t attending her lessons, thus not giving him a moment to become more acquainted with her.

The light green-haired prince had ordered his two friends to look for information on Ichiro after hearing that Melina was interested in him, but the facts he was getting from them were not making him feel any better about his chances with the princess.

Every time he tried talking to her, she either ignored him or barely paid any attention to his comments, making him wonder if he was doing something wrong when approaching her.

Now that Melina hadn’t attended her lessons for a few days, he decided to pay her a visit, believing that he could be of assistance if she needed something.

Taking both of his friends, Marco and Enzo, they made their way to the girls’ dormitories and knocked on Melina’s door, only to be received by the elf princess, Eve.

"Hi, is Princess Melina around?" Luca asked with a polite tone.

"Oh, no, sorry. She went to talk to the headmaster..." Eve replied with a slight smile.

"Will she be there for a long time?" Luca continued.

The elf shrugged and puffed her cheeks, saying she had already been out for some time.

"Then, is it okay if we wait for her here?" Luca inquired, sounding a little desperate.

Eve wasn’t sure how to respond, so her roommate Yuki, who was lying in bed, came to the rescue.

When it came to the three princesses that lived in that room, Yuki was the most straightforward and defensive. She had "big sister" energy, which made her want to overprotect her friends.

On the opposite side, Eve always had an upbeat and go-lucky attitude, which made it harder for her to be clear with her intentions to other people as she had trouble saying "no" sometimes.

Melina was the catalyst between the two. She was the one who was able to find common ground between being realistic and straightforward while also being positive and upbeat.

After Yuki walked to the door and noticed Luca with Marco, the man she had seen snooping around their room days before, she asked them why they wanted to see Melina so badly.

"Your friend was here the other day. Is this about the same thing?" Yuki asked them coldly.

"That was my fault. I asked him to come here to ask the princess something... I’m sorry if he caused any trouble." Luca replied courteously, making it difficult for Yuki to tell them off.

The black-haired girl sighed and told the three teenagers they could come in and wait for Melina.

The prince and his lackeys walked into the princesses’ room and took a seat on a table on their balcony, where they had a machine to brew tea that had been brought from Kyotora.

The teenagers were amazed at the amount of things that the princesses had in their room, starting with the hot tub that was right next to them on the balcony.

While Yuki was brewing tea for their visitors, Eve gave them a small tour of their room as she talked about the different magical trinkets they had around, explaining how Melina was responsible for installing most of them.

At one moment, the teenagers spotted the crate filled with black pearls next to Melina’s desk and approached it while asking the elf what it was.

"Ah, no, don’t touch that!" Eve exclaimed as Marco held one of the black pearls in his hand.

"Huh, why?" Marco asked, raising an eyebrow, not understanding the dangers of the artifact he was holding.

"Those are the artifacts that Melina has been working with...-" the elf tried to explain but was cut off when Melina arrived at their room and loudly opened the door.

"I’m back!" she exclaimed.

Marco, feeling a sense of panic as he was holding one of the artifacts that Melina had been working with, decided to hide it in his mouth, expecting her not to notice that he had been toying around with her stuff.

Nonetheless, Melina spotted it instantly and widened her eyes with fear.

"What are you doing!? Spit that out, now!" Melina shouted at Marco, startling everyone else in the room.

The teenager, not wanting to make his friend Luca look even worse in front of the woman he liked, decided to play it off and swallowed the pearl.

*gulp* "N-nothing. I have nothing!" he said nervously.

However, Melina’s face turned pale, and she froze for a moment, leaving the room with an awkward silence that lasted a few seconds before Marco began grabbing his neck in pain.

The teenager clutched onto his throat as black veins began appearing on his body and dropped to the floor in pain as demonic energy began encasing his figure.

"YOU IDIOT!" Melina shouted with evident rage in her eyes, using magic to quickly propel herself to one side of the room where she had a batch of golden pearls ready.

The princess grabbed one of the cleansed pearls and forcibly fed it to Marco as he was convulsing on the ground, slowly reverting the shadows and leaving him unconscious.

After Melina saved everyone in the room from getting ripped apart by a lesser demon, she slowly stood up with a somber expression and stared at Luca and his friends coldly.

"Get the hell out of here, you idiots..." the princess muttered, not letting Luca get a word in as she opened the door widely for them to leave.
