Chapter 145: Golem Attack

As the golem kept approaching the town at high speeds, we had a few minutes to come up with a plan, and I asked Vespera to help me teleport all of the beastkin in town to our camp.

I had no time to explain in detail, so she just followed my orders and descended to the center of town with me, startling all of the residents who saw us landing.

"Let’s get them all out of here, even if they say no," I said to my companion, prompting us to use magic to move quickly around the town as we grabbed the beastkin in our shoulders.

They probably thought that we were kidnapping them since they were kicking and punching my back when I held them, but the protection enchantment on my poncho didn’t even let me feel it.

When I was holding four beastkins, I launched myself at another one and teleported the five of them to the camp, appearing right beside a pack of soldiers from the empire.

I quickly told them to keep the people safe and teleported back to town to get more of them. Meanwhile, Vespera was doing the same thing, and she could hold way more people than me with her spider legs, so we were going pretty fast.

After teleporting fifty of the beastkin villagers, I told Vespera that we should both start the healing treatment, where we would have to kill and bring them back to life to get rid of their curse.

As we began, the other beastkin started screaming in fear, thinking that we were executing them as we were driving our hands through their chests, but after seeing us pour the healing potions, they calmed down a bit.

The procedure to heal their curse wasn’t something that would take a lot of our time, but it had to be done with care, or the patients would simply die.

Nonetheless, we were running out of time, so Vespera and I were doing the operations as fast as we could while still being careful not to kill anyone by mistake.

Gina and Yoru were still at Howlsridge holding back the golem, and after we healed the fifty villagers in ten minutes, we drank an MP potion and teleported back to help them.

"Ichiro, there are still people in some houses!" Gina yelled as soon as I appeared in town.

I used my search spell and felt the presence of two people inside one of the half-destroyed houses. Meanwhile, Yoru was facing the golem and keeping him from targeting the home where they were hiding.

’It’s like it knows that the villagers are hiding there...’ I thought.

"Vesp!" I shouted, making my companion run toward the golem as she used her spider legs to hit it in the head, causing him to tumble to the ground on his side.

However, as soon as the golem landed, he instantly burrowed underground and began moving under us, making the ground shake a little as I felt it going for the house where the two people were hiding.

"Vespera, you go and take those people to safety and heal them quickly!" I shouted at my companion.

If we killed the golem before it could kill the villagers, then Zagor would notice that there were survivors. That’s why we had to heal them first and then kill the monster.

My companion understood perfectly and made her way to the house to save the villagers while I used earth magic to open a massive hole in the ground and expel the golem back to the surface.

"You are annoying..." I muttered, using lightning magic to catch up to the monster, and placed both of my hands on his chest.

’Vespera should be done by now...’ I thought as my palms made contact with the monster’s torso.

That moment felt like a full minute, but in reality, it only lasted about one millisecond.

As soon as my palms made contact with the golem’s rocky torso, I used powerful earth magic to shatter the entire body in an instant.

With its body turned to dust, it left behind a large red orb, which I recognized as his heart since it looked exactly like the one we took from the first Terra Titan.

*phew* "Alright... That’s done." I commented as I turned to look at Gina and Yoru, who were looking at me with a bit of perplexity.

"Did you just shatter a golem with magic?" Gina asked.

"Yeah. Seemed like the best option..." I replied.

Gina facepalmed and explained that if it were that easy to kill a golem, the devil wouldn’t use them to do his bidding.

Golem bodies were as strong as they were because they had powerful magic coursing through them that made the rock composing their bodies much stronger and more durable.

She said that the only way my magic could win against it so easily was because my MP pool was higher. Since I added more power than the one the golem had coursing inside him, it was enough to shatter him completely.

"I see. But if the real Terra Titan were split into different parts, it would explain why the golem’s MP pool was lower than mine, right?" I asked.

"Sure, splitting the titan will also split his MP pool into different parts, but it doesn’t make it any less impressive..." the battle-maid continued, stopping a few seconds after Vespera arrived, saying she had taken the kids to safety.

"Kids?" I asked.

My companion told me that the two people who were hiding were two young beastkins who were 8 and 10 years old, but she had healed them, and they were reunited with their parents at the camp.

"Oh, that’s nice then. Good thing Gina spotted them." I said before pointing out our main problem.

Now that we had killed the golem that was sent to one of their towns, Zagor knew for a fact that the enemy army was inside his territory, which meant that we could expect more attacks or threats dawning on other settlements.

"Let’s go back to the camp for now. We still have to wait for the other two sides of the army to cross the border..."
