Isekai Journey Of The Magic Archer-Chapter 1219: Let the council work
[Eon's POV: ]
"And how do you intend to fit that many people in an airship?" A pretty valid question came from Rein first, but vice headmaster Oddfrid shrugged it off like it was nothing important.
"We can just have a bunch of airships, right? Why are you even asking such a simple thing?"
"There's no way you're serious, vice headmaster."
"Did you even think it through, Ma'am? If we were to do that, we would need more than a dozen airships!"
It had been a few days since the guidance duels. The days after that had been pretty peaceful, but now that the academy was about to start its regular curriculum and we were done picking our individual classes, we weren't going to have as much free time on our hands as we had these past few days.
'Not that we had that much time in the first place.'
With Del and President teaching us everything we needed to know as well as the inside things, we were in the process of taking over their positions for good.
With the headmaster busy with his own work, we had many things to look after as well. The ex-presidents weren't going to be around for long, so their farewell party was also in the process.
Also, with the vice headmaster planning a trip for the students, we had to look after the proceedings as well as coordinate with all the students as well as their families and also the teachers that would be joining us.
'Even if she's planning to go sometime next month, the preparations are not going to be easy.'
With what time we have, we will have to finalize the budget, the resources that we can allocate to this out of the blue trip, look after the path that we will be taking, analyze the destination and scan it for anything unusual beforehand, and that was just the starters.
There's food preparations, staff that we will be bringing with us, the activities that we would do, and much more.
A trip of this scale wasn't easy. Our seniors from the president's and Del's batch only had one trip like this and only they knew how troublesome it was for them as the student council presidents.
"I know how it was for the previous batches, I heard it from Senior Zod, but even he did not like how it was done last time.
I don't want to waste the academy's resources like they had to. There's enough time to prepare so how about we go through with this thoroughly?
If you're busy, the council will take up the responsibility for the external affairs as well so you can just prepare what you have to and we can take things from there, how about that?"
I tried to be as sincere as I could, but I could tell the vice headmaster was testing us from the start.
She was not so careless as to not take the obvious elements of a trip of this scale into consideration.
'She wanted to bring us to the eastern continent for all that matters. A trip like that from up here on the sky island would take a tremendous amount of fuel and resources.'
We would need to use the exclusive air route that we have, we would have to use many airships that must coordinate with one another, we also had to check the paths for any 'unexpected' beasts that might have appeared there.
And even before we do that, there are countless technical things that we would have to look after here on the island.
"You want me to let the council work all the way through, huh?" with a smirk on her face, she asked in a mysterious tone.
I guess she wanted to test our skills as the presidents as well. Actually, I think the reason she was planning this trip was also as a test for us.
There was a lot that we needed to learn even now, but even though we had just been appointed, we were different from the other council presidents in the last few years.
"If possible, yes. We would appreciate your support gratefully, of course. However, with the other things to look after, and considering the situation that we have on hand, you can leave these things to us.
Since this is more related to the students, it should be our priority this time, right?" The question was a little deeper for how it was said, but the vice headmaster understood what I meant.
"Is that so? How thoughtful of you two~."
She didn't show it sometimes, but it was pretty difficult to read her because of her firm grasp on her actions.
She thought deeply about a lot of things and each action she took, each thing she did had a deep connection to something else.
This time as well, the reason she was taking us to the eastern continent's northern Hua kingdom's Blossom festival must be something deeper.
"Fine then, I will leave the small things to you two. Oh, but don't worry about the recon of the paths and the destination. I will take care of that much."
In the first place, the fact that she was moving herself instead of giving this task to some other teacher or one of her aides meant there was something that needed her individual attention.
'From the information that I recently obtained on the east, we found out that the movements of the demonic cult aren't as great on the surface as it is in the underworlds of the east.'
They aren't trying to move above the surface due to the strong influence of the leaders of the place.
They are trying to play their cards from under the table, trying to manipulate the market, trying to do something they did in the Lakmer on a deeper scale to poison the entirety of the kingdoms and nations.
'The information that we obtained was still not that good. I wanted to know more about the whole situation so I sent Miss Moon over there to check things out directly.'
However it seems like the vice headmaster had a clue to what was going on over there and if she was worried about it, then it must not be something pleasant.
"You two can go ahead with the proceedings as you wish then. Here, use this wherever you need to." She calmly placed a certain square box before us and, as soon as we saw it, both of us were stunned.
"Vice headmaster!? You cannot do this!" This small box, it was the seal of the vice headmaster, the second-in command of the academy.
The authority that this one seal contained was no less than any king or emperor.
The one who possessed this seal could create documents that could overthrow the entirety of governments, but that wasn't all.
This artifact also contained a portion of the Authorities granted to the vice headmaster. Giving it us was the same as giving us authority over things that we did not even need.
"What would we even do with this?! Besides, this is not right!"
She wasn't supposed to give this to anyone, much less to the student council presidents who already possessed some authority within the academy.
In the wrong hands, in the hands of us children, this thing could very well be used in many wrong ways. I know just how complicated things could get just because of one stamp from this thing… and it was also a burden that I did not want right now.
"Haha, cuties~. Don't worry, this isn't the real thing~." She turned the artifact around and showed us a certain (One) written on it.
It was glowing in a unique way, something that we recognised very well.
"A one use artifact?" Rein wondered as she looked at the number, confusion clearly visible on her face.
"Vice headmaster? What is the meaning of this?"
The artifact would be destructively useful in the wrong hands while in the hands of someone who understood how to use this, this was the same as a divine blessing.
As someone who understood the power that it held, I knew I was nowhere near ready to handle something like that, at least within the academy.
I didn't want more burden than what we have right now. However, giving us a one chance artifact meant something even worse.
"Consider this a gift for your performance at the cometation. You did well~."
This was another test.
A test of our decision making skills. A test of our knowledge and resourcefulness.
[{ "She wants us to do something for her that she cannot do herself." }]
[{ "What the hell does this old hag even want from us?" }]
[{ "We will have to figure that out ourselves as well…" }]
In the first place, why would you give something so precious to someone who wasn't even strong enough to handle its power?
'Did she think that highly of us?'
That definitely wasn't the case.
She was the best when it came to testing one's levels and current powers, as well as how much they could grow.
The reason she was giving this to us could very well be because she needed something from us that she couldn't get herself while at the same time wanting to see how we could utilize it in our own favor.
'It wasn't a simple test…'
But there was no way to figure out her intentions right now.
"Well then, have fun you two~."
We would have to figure it out as we go ahead with the preparations for the trip.
A process that had just become far more difficult for us with the addition of this certain box...
