Chapter 33: THE FORBIDDEN LINE

STEAK FOR breakfast?

Crazy!

I love it.

Yuno wasn’t a picky eater, so he didn’t complain and just ate his food in silence.

Plus, I’m really hungry. I worked all night. When I come to my senses, the sun has already risen.

In short, he skipped dinner last night.

"Slow down," Ki Gayoon, the only person sharing the dining table with Yuno, scolded him. "No one’s going to steal your food."

"Sorry. Habit," Yuno said, drinking water to push down the large portion of steak that he had just swallowed. "While I was living at Sajangnim’s house, I was the youngest among the people he "adopted." I had to eat fast or else my stupid hyungs and noonas would steal my food."

Of course, something like that was just normal among "siblings."

"Do you like steak?"

"I like anything that tastes good," Yuno said. He was annoyed that Ki Gayoon kept talking to him, but he had to hold it in since he was living under the grumpy old man’s roof. "Why?"

"Well, I didn’t expect you to have a big appetite since you’re skinny."

"I’m not skinny— I’m pretty toned, you know?"

"I’ll find out soon if you’re telling the truth or not."

Aigoo.

I should really start drinking the medicine again since it looks like this ahjussi wants to devour me.

Well, most Espers with a high-matching Guide were like that.

Sex with their Guides is like having a fast charging power bank to Espers.

"Do you usually eat heavy breakfast?"

"Not really," Yuno said while shaking his head. "I just usually get an onigiri, gimbap, or sandwich from the store."

"Then why did you eat that steak?"

"Because it’s served? I can eat anything since I don’t have food allergies."

"Don’t live like that," Ki Gayoon said sternly. "I’ll serve different types of food for a week. Then tell me what you like most among them."

"Why do I have to do that?"

"We’re going to figure out what kind of food you like best."

"Again, why?"

"Because I’m trying to keep you alive, punk," Ki Gayoon said, gripping his steak knife tightly while glaring at Yuno as if he wanted to stab him. "You’re like a newborn baby actively finding ways to kill themselves in the dumbest way possible."

For some reason, Yuno felt guilty.

After all, even Moon Noa and her HoneyMoon Convenience Store team members had said the same, out of concern.

But I’m just trying to save energy by doing the bare minimum to keep myself alive...

"Are you going to your part-time job today, Noh Yuno?"

"No. I’ll return to work tomorrow. Why are you asking, Ahjuhyung?"

"Moon Noa already sent a formal request to Beom-seok Constructions," Ki Gayoon said. "He wants my company to rebuild your house."

Houses, establishments, and properties destroyed by a Dungeon Break would be covered by the government. But that rule only applied to Civilians and Espers in the lower rank (usually D and F-Class Espers or Guides).

The house was officially under Moon Noa’s name.

And Sajangnim is a high-ranking Guide.

So, unfortunately, his boss wouldn’t get compensation from the government.

Not that my boss needs it.

"Punk, do you want to see what exactly the government wants to steal from Beom-seok Constructions?"

"Not really—"

"I knew you’d say yes, so let’s go," Ki Gayoon said, raising his voice to ignore Yuno’s rejection. "Let’s go to my company after you’re done eating."

Tsk.

Yuno just ignored Ki Gayoon and turned to the waiting staff standing in the corner of the dining hall. "Can I get one more plate of steak, ma’am?"

"You don’t have to talk formally to my staff," Ki Gayoon said bluntly. "You’re my guest, Noh Yuno."

I’m not a rude bastard like you, Ahjuhyung.

***

BEOM-SEOK Constructions.

It was arguably one of the biggest companies in South Korea at the moment.

"A warehouse?" Yuno asked, half-confused and half-amazed. "I can’t believe that the #1 construction firm in the country has a warehouse for their HQ."

But why was Beom-seok Constructions the #1 in the field?

Sinple.

Beom-seok Constructions is the only construction firm in the country that uses materials that can only be found in dungeons. Plus, Esper Ki Gayoon-ssi’s Earth Manipulation ability helps his company build or rebuild buildings fast.

It wasn’t enough to just steal Beom-seok Constructions— Ki Gayoon should be included if the government wanted to run his company.

Ah.

Is that why the government is using Guide Bambi to seduce Ahjuhyung?

"It looks shabby outside," Ki Gayoon said, smirking. "But it’s pretty decent inside."

Oho?

Yuno looked around while following Ki Gayoon behind. "Ahjuhyung, I can’t believe your company survived without getting stolen even though there’s no one guiding the warehouse outside."

Shouldn’t a valuable company like the Beom-seok Constructions be heavily guarded?

"No one, not even Ryu Sungbin, can steal my company without me," Ki Gayoon said. "You’ll understand later."

I really don’t want to know, though.

"Greetings, Boss!"

Aigoo.

There goes the gangster-like greeting again.

But, this time, only two men (twins, actually) greeted their boss.

Their loud voices are equivalent to thirty men, though.

Ki Gayoon then introduces the twins. "The one with the burgundy hair is Gu Inwoo, an A-Class Esper. The one with the blue hair is Gu Inkyu, an A-Class Guide."

"Oh, I see them on the news often," Yuno said, bowing his head politely since as far as he knew, the Gu Twins were older than him. "Hello. I’m Noh Yuno, a B-Class Guide."

Yep, that was Yuno’s new class now.

I wanted to pretend as an F-Class Guide, but Sajangnim said people would find it hard to believe that a low-ranked Guide had a high matching rate with an S-Class Esper.

Anyways, the Gu Twins just looked at Yuno as if they were sizing him up.

Aigoo.

Yuno didn’t have the courage to hold a mini-staring contest with the handsome twins, so he just looked around.

Like what Ki Gayoon said, the inside of the warehouse was indeed decent.

It looks like a modern industrial office.

"Punk, let’s go."

Yuno bowed to the Gu Twins without really looking at them (because they were scary) before running after Ki Gayoon. "Ahjuhyung, is Beom-seok Constructions really a gangster group—"

"Do you want to die?"

"No," Yuno said while acting like he was zipping up his mouth. "Sorry for asking."

Ki Gayoon just sighed as they took the stairs.

And when they reached the second floor, which looked like the grumpy old man’s private office, Yuno gasped at the sight that greeted him.

The wall behind the chairman’s fancy desk...

... those swirls that resembled a whirlpool...

"Is that a Gate?" Yuno asked in disbelief. "You’re keeping a Gate in your company?!"

"Don’t worry. That’s a dormant Gate, and there are no monsters inside. Only my several mines are there."

"Mines?"

"That’s where I source the materials for my construction firm," Ki Gayoon said, extending his hand to him. "Let’s go."

Wow.

That sounds dangerous, but...

Yuno grabbed Ki Gayoon’s hand. "That’s interesting, Ahjuhyung."

Oh, no.

’Interesting?’

Did I just say the "forbidden line?!"
