Extra's POV: My Obsessive Villainous Fiancee Is The Game's Final Boss-Chapter 176: Infiltration Mission
The night air was damp with mist as Ren and Lilith crept through the narrow side streets of Rainhold, sticking to the dark shadows cast by the tall and beautifully painted buildings with their overgrown balconies.
The marble spires of the Church of the Shivering Tree rose in the air, the roofs shining under the light of the moon, some of the windows spilling orange light.
They stopped at the edge of the last alley, staring across the wide avenue that circled the massive fence surrounding the church grounds.
In a city that was practically choke full of people and buildings stacked wall to wall, the church was unique. Standing taller than every other building in the city, it was a massive marble complex surrounded by more than an acre of trees, the only true green in Rainhold.
"Why does the church get all the space?" Lilith muttered, eyes scanning the incredibly tall wrought-iron fence. "Everything else in this city is crushed together like packed meat."
Ren smiled faintly, but his eyes didn't waver from scanning the fence. "Symbolism. The Church needs to look untouchable. Divine. Above the filth of the city. Pure." He pointed at a section of the fence near a twisted tree that had grown close. "There. Less light, less visibility, and more cover."
They moved quickly and quietly, ducking as they sprinted through the dark path created by the shadow of the tree until they got to the fence.
The fence there was slightly warped, the iron bars bent just enough to create an awkward handhold. Ren went first, pulling himself up easily.
At the top, he reached down and helped Lilith scale up beside him. Together, they dropped into the forested church grounds. Twigs crunched softly beneath their boots as they landed, the woods eerily silent.
"We need to get to the room of records." Ren whispered. "Somewhere inside, there'll be documentation on the aspirant pairs. If we can find where they're kept before the ceremony, we can intercept a pair and take their place."
Lilith nodded, her eyes glowing faintly in the dark.
They crept along the inner edge of the woods, keeping the marble building in sight while staying beneath the cover of trees. As they slipped closer to one of the cobblestone paths through the sparse woods, torchlight spilled across the ground ahead of them.
"Patrol." Ren whispered, grabbing Lilith's wrist and pulling her to himself as they flattened themselves against a tree, using it to shield themselves from view.
Ren pressed his back against the tree, heart pounding. Lilith, with nowhere else to go, pressed herself in front of him, her body flush against his. Her soft breath tickled his neck.
That was when Ren noticed. Just how close she was. And just how… generously built she really was.
Her breasts pressed against his chest, and he could feel himself getting aroused. He blinked, looking away as Lilith looked up with a mischievous smile, noticing the shift in his posture.
The patrol passed without incident, their boots clacking against the stone path.
Ren exhaled as the footsteps faded, but didn't move.
Lilith leaned in, whispering sweetly, "Something on your mind?"
He cleared his throat and stepped out of the middle of the sandwich that was Lilith and the tree, shaking his head. "Let's go."
They moved on.
A few minutes later, the trees thinned as they reached the back of the church. That was when the soft sound of moaning reached their ears. Ren and Lilith both stopped in their tracks.

Up ahead, in a small clearing, two aspirants lay tangled together on the grass, their lewd moans filling the air. Their gray aspirant attire lay discarded in a pile nearby, forgotten.
Lilith blushed, glancing shyly at Ren with a mix of surprise and curiosity. Ren looked away awkwardly, jaw tight, cheeks flushed as he remembered her body pressed against his.
"Well," Lilith whispered, "they're certainly… busy."
Without another word, they moved in. Lilith quietly scooped up the discarded clothing while Ren kept watch.
Once they were clear of the clearing, they put on the aspirant robes. Ren tucked their original outfits into his spatial pouch, where Freedom was hidden, sealing them away.
"Let's go." He said.
And without leaving a trace, or a stitch of clothing behind, they slipped deeper into the church grounds.
They moved like shadows through the woods, weaving between trees and ducking low beneath patches of thick underbrush.
Each time torchlight swept too close, Ren would grab Lilith's wrist, and they'd slip behind a trunk or sink into the undergrowth, his heart pounding as Lilith pressed herself against him.
"Hormones." He cursed to himself as the light passed and they separated. "Focus, Ren."
It took time, patience, and a dozen careful pauses before they reached the outer walls of the church itself.
The marble surface was dark, as this was the other side of which the moon was shining from, shadows covering them. The wall was almost completely smooth but had just enough carved detailing for handholds.
Ren tested the grooves first, then nodded. The patrols were looking for people sneaking in, not people who were already in.
They climbed effortlessly, fingers gripping stone. Lilith moved below him, her robes fluttering in silence. At the top, Ren slipped through a narrow window and helped her in after him.
They landed inside a dark office, the candle burnt low.
The soft scratching of snoring greeted them.
A rotund priest was slumped over his desk, mouth slightly open, a feather quill still in hand. Scrolls lay scattered before him, ink smudged and drying.
Ren and Lilith exchanged a look, then tiptoed past him. Ren slowly opened the door and peered into the hallway. It was empty.
They slipped into the corridor, shutting the door behind them without a sound. The hallway stretched out in both directions, lined with tall, arched windows and flickering lanterns.
Just as they turned to continue their mission, a voice rang out.
"Stop right there!"
