Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 189: Playing Nice And Forgetting Her Employer
Chapter 189: Playing Nice And Forgetting Her Employer
Brooke’s eyes widened when her husband nodded in affirmation. She pictured Hannah’s smiling face, the pure warmth and sincerity emanating from her expression. Vigorously, Brooke shook her head, dismissing the thought.
"You find it hard to believe? That Hannah could be plotting against us?" Thane asked, piercing through her thoughts.
"I don’t see the motive behind her doing so, she doesn’t seem like the kind of person to harbour Ill intent." Brooke defended, "She’s been so kind to me..." Midway Brooke cut herself off.
She imagined her half sister on television and during her weekly live videos. No one would dare imagine that Cassie was a spoiled brat with a stuck up personality.
Was Hannah the same? Wearing a kind face just to have her lower her guard?
Brooke raised her head, "Why would she do that? Why would Gilbert betray you? I don’t understand anything that’s going on."
And more importantly, Brooke wanted to know why Thane kept them both beside him when he had his suspicions about their true intentions from the get go.
Her husband reached for her hand and gave it a firm squeeze. "Don’t jump to conclusions just yet, I do suspect them of hiding things from me, but I’m not entirely certain if they’re betraying us."
Brooke blinked twice, "You think they have a different motive?"
He shook his head, "Like I said I’m not certain, but if I was the enemy, I wouldn’t waste time planting spies in my opponent’s camp. Instead, I’d win over their closest allies, and infiltrate from within." He explained, helping Brooke paint a better picture.
"The question is, how the enemy won them over?" Thane narrowed his eyes, his grip tightened, "And just how far are they willing to go?"
Hearing those words Brooke felt her heart shatter, she had just settled in and gotten close to these people and yet she had to start acting cautious around them.
"Do you think they’re being black mailed?" Brooke suggested as the car drove into their compound area.
"That is a possiblity, but I’d like us to keep an even more open mind. If we let out emotions get the better of us, we lose sight of the answer in front of us." Said Thane, as he pulled over by the other cars.
Thane withdrew his hand and unfastened Brooke’s seatbelt. "For now, we have to play along with their games so they don’t catch on." He informed her, alternating his gaze from Brooke to the mansion.
Brooke sighed then nodded, the reluctance vividly drawn across her tired features.
"You step out first, if we sit in here any longer they’ll get suspicious." Thane said, reaching for his phone.
Brooke who wanted to stay with him a bit longer was forced to leave, her thoughts unsettled.
She clutched tightly onto her phone as she made for the manor. Where certain enough at the base of the steps was Hannah waiting for her with open arms.
"Mrs Grayson, what happened? Why didn’t you step out with the young master?" Hannah asked, peering her gaze over Brooke’s shoulder.
Brooke twisted her lips, searching for the right response.
"And why do you look so worried?" Hannah came closer and wrapped her arm around Brooke’s shoulder. In a gentle tone she asked, "Did you two have a fight? Is there anything wrong? You can tell me, and I swear I’ll try to speak to the young-" Hannah’s voice was drowned by the sudden embrace from Brooke, followed strictly by her silent sobs into her shoulder.
Hannah’s orbs went full, "Mrs Grayson? W-What’s going on? Come on, you’re scaring me." She pleaded in a soft tone.
But Brooke clenched tightly onto Hannah’s clothes, her tears soaking into the fabric. "It hurts, it hurts so much." Was all Brooke could chant, as her tears continued to flow refusing to stop.
Hannah narrowed her eyes at the full tray of food a maid returned with from Brooke’s bedroom.
She reclined against the kitchen counter and pinched her chin. "Could it be true? Are those two really arguing with each other?" She thought aloud.
"Moving back into her bedroom, the young master not stepping out of his, and even now she won’t eat or drink a single thing. Was this one argument really enough to drive a wedge between them?" Hannah’s thoughts were disrupted by the arrival of two maids.
"Miss Tara is outside, and she’s demanding to see Mrs Grayson!" One of the maids exclaimed, taking deep pants in-between words. The sweat that beaded across her neck was enough indicator she ran over.
Hannah’s countenance fell. ’What is that bitch doing here now of all times?’ Hannah inwardly hissed.
"Don’t let her get anywhere near Mrs Grayson, I’ll handle that woman myself." Hannah directed them.
She turned to the other one, "Call Gilbert over immediately, and make sure master Grayson is not disturbed in any manner!."
"Yes ma’am!" They chorused then rushed out of the kitchen.
Rolling her sleeves up to her elbows, Hannah briskly marched out of the kitchen. Fortunately, when she arrived at the scene, Brooke nor Thane had arrived to see her.
Swiftly, she charged towards the woman whose red painted eyes and lips spelled nothing but trouble. Grabbing Tara by the wrist she dragged her down the steps and led her outside.
Once they were both outside, and most importantly out of hearing distance, Hannah let go of Tara’s hand and wiped it against her dress.
"Why the hell are you here? Do you want to piss the young master off completely?!" Hannah loudly whispered, looking here and there to make sure that they weren’t being followed or listened to.
Tara folded her arms across her chest and let out an eye roll. "Is that the way you greet your employer? Hannah?" She flattened her lips into an all knowing smile.
In a condescending tone she demanded sternly, "Or has playing nice to that stuck up bitch made you forget just who the hell you really work for?"
