Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 123: Net Worth
Chapter 123: Net Worth
Matthew stared at the drawings in the green book, admiring Mallory’s attention to detail and creativity in the bags she designed. He was so engrossed in what he was doing, that he barely noticed his friends walk in.
"What’s this? You’re actually reading a book?" Jacob asked, sitting next to him at the lounge table. He dropped his wallet and keys onto the table and kicked his legs up onto the table. He reached into his jacket and pulled out his pack of cigarettes.
Matthew immediately closed the book and kept it on his lap, he turned to Jacob and snatched the pack out of his hands.
"Hey-"
"How many times I gotta tell you not to smoke around me? You stupid bastard?!" He threw the pack to the ground, not wanting to get the smell on him or the book.
Jacob parted his lips to say something, but one of their friends shook their head slowly from side to side, warning him not to.
Defeated, he apologized. "I’m sorry."
Matthew clicked his tongue, "I don’t need your apology." He got up and dashed for the door, ignoring the calls from the rest of his friends.
Once he was gone, Jacob let out a groan. "Who does that bastard think he is?!" he spat out, glaring at the pack of cigarettes on the floor.
Daniel interjected, "Calm down, he might hear you."
"Damn him! If he wasn’t a Grayson-"
Another of his friends, Sean chimed, "You fool, he’s said it a million times not to smoke in front of him. He says they don’t allow it in their family, so why the hell did you have to forget!"
Jacob hissed, "To hell with all that! Matthew is just a bitch scared of his family. And you know why? Because he’s just the spare, he’s under the heir’s shadow. Honestly, I don’t even know why we suck up to him."
Daniel gritted his teeth, "For the connections."
He leaned in and grabbed Jacob by the collar, "Believe it or not, but he’s still a Grayson, and his family is swimming in wealth ten times than what we can only imagine. His net worth alone is far larger than ours combined. So don’t be an idiot and screw this up!"
After the message was passed on, Daniel and the others left, to go do something else, seeing as their target had just left the lounge.
Alone, Jacob picked up his cigarettes pack from the ground and took one out. He tried to light it, but his phone rang. He picked it up and let out a depressing sigh at the person calling.
He reluctantly answered the call. "What is it, Tara?"
She barked into the phone. "Well? Did you talk to Matthew? Has he agreed to meet with me?"
He sighed, "No, the little bastard ran off after throwing a tantrum-"
Tara screamed into the phone. "Why are you so useless? I gave you one task, to ask Matthew to see me. And you couldn’t even do that much!"
Jacob hissed, "Maybe I wouldn’t have to put up with Matthew’s bullshit if you didn’t fail to marry the heir. Weren’t you so cocky that you had him wrapped around your finger? So what happened?"
Deflecting the question she went on. "Just do what I asked. As it stands, our company and father aren’t doing well. We need the Graysons, if we’re to survive this. So get your shit together and do whatever it takes to get me an audience with him!" She offered then disconnected the call.
A deep groan escaped his lips. "That bitch."
He was aware of his lecherous sister trying to get with the Grayson heir, but he didn’t understand why all of a sudden Matthew, who was initially on her side blocked her number and told her to stay away.
He was sure that something had happened at the Grayson household, and knowing that family, he knew they would do well to hide it.
"I have a feeling it has something to do with Matthew’s brother-"
"Sir, the bill for your stay here." A staff member piped up, penetrating his thoughts.
"We charged the hourly fee, we only accept transfer payments-" she was saying, only for Jacob to cut her off.
"This much? Just for an hour?!" He had been to this lounge multiple of times with Matthew and the rest, but he had always been careful not to be the one to cover the bill.
The staff member fought back her frown, wasn’t he with a Grayson? Wasn’t this sort of cash just pocket change for people like them?
"Sir, if it’s too much I’ll contact the Grayson house to shoulder the expense-"
"It’s fine! I’ll cover it." He spat out, mortified at the thought of having to ask Matthew to pay for this.
He searched for his wallet on the table amongst the glasses and bottles of wine. Until he noticed something shiny on the ground, right underneath where Matthew sat. He picked it up, and realized that it was an emerald pendant.
An expensive looking emerald pendant.
’Shit, I think this chain is real gold.’ he thought, staring at the trinket in his hand.
Did this belong to Matthew?
But it looks too feminine to be his.
Or was it a gift he got for one of his lays?
On the back of the pendant the initials, ’M.R’ was engraved in italic font.
"Sir, the bill?" The staff member asked, snapping him into reality.
"Ah, yes." He stuffed the trinket into his pocket and picked up his wallet from the table.
He took out his card and passed it to her, "Here."
She quickly took the card, shocked to see it wasn’t a black card, then went ahead to make the payment.
After she left, Jacob took the necklace out of his pocket and looked at it once more. It was expensive, and looked like an antique.
"Something like this isn’t a gift for some little girlfriend. There definitely is something behind this pendant, maybe something I could use against that bastard."
