Chapter 121: Brooke’s Encounter With Her In-laws

May and Wendy forced Brooke into having a bath and then forced her into a dress for breakfast. After a grueling hour, they wheeled to the dining hall, where everyone was already present.

Save for Zachiel and the two vacant seats next to his.

They wheeled her over to one of the available seats, where on one side, Edward sat with a scowl, and on the other, Malcolm looked as white as a sheet.

Recognizing his father, Brooke turned to him. "Your son is in the hospital, we can’t just sit here and have breakfast. We have to go see him." She said, but Sophia interjected sharply.

"I thought we already had this discussion upstairs, this is the dining hall, and I expect you to behave."

Brooke parted her lips to interject, but Desmond piped up, "Grandma don’t bother, I doubt a woman like her has even the most basic of manners pinned down."

Brooke was stunned at his audacity to speak to someone he didn’t know in that fashion. She didn’t even know who he was, but she could tell she wouldn’t like him.

"Don’t you think it’s too early to be spewing nonsense?" Matthew asked, dropping his fork.

"Matthew!" Rosalind scolded.

Sophia frowned, "What’s the use in cautioning the boy now? It’s clear he gets his poor manners from his mother."

Rosalind scoffed, "How nice of you to intervene, Sophia."

Laura softly interjected, "Rosalind, that’s enough, please, not at the breakfast table."

Rosalind rolled her eyes, "I didn’t hear you say a word while Desmond was running his mouth, earlier. Did your self righteousness not kick in yet?"

Laura shook her head, "You have no control over your words whatsoever, that’s why mother gets angry at you."

Sophia seconded, "Exactly. You follow your husband around, pretending to do business, how nice it is to cut corners-"

Malcolm narrowed his eyes, "Sophia, you’re too old to be this petty. Let it go."

But his brother, Edward let out a laugh, "You should worry about your vegetable son, Malcolm rather than pick fights with the women-"

Malcolm banged his fist on the table, "I dare you to say that again Edward!" He dared his brother, taking out his anger from not being able to see his son on him.

Brooke who had had enough, attempted to wheel herself away from the dining hall while they went at each other’s throats.

But, she was interjected by the sudden arrival of Zachiel, alongside Cressida who was escorted to the table alongside two nurses, who helped her to a chair.

The moment Zachiel stepped in, everyone fell silent, as everyone stood up to acknowledge his presence. The only thing to be heard were the sound of his calculated footsteps marching to the head of the table. And once he sat down, he gestured the rest of the family to sit.

"Good morning grandfather." William, who hadn’t said a word the entire time greeted.

The old man nodded, then turned his attention to the new face at his table. His gaze zoned in on her wheelchair, then to her face.

Brooke noticed his obvious staring and took the initiative.

"Mr Grayson, I have something to ask of you." Brooke started off, surprising the family with how bold she was to speak without being asked to.

Zachiel as well wasn’t pleased with her and tossed an angry look to his wife, whom he expected to have trained her properly.

"What is it?" He implored, as his attendants folded his napkin.

"I need a car, to go see my husband in the hospital." She said firmly.

Zachiel casually responded, "He’s at Maverick’s hospital, and he’s doing well."

"That’s not what I asked for, I said I want to see him. He’s hurt-"

"We’re done discussing this subject, you’ll stay at home, where no one will be able to see you in this state." He said, then leveled his gaze at the wheelchair she sat on.

Brooke caught what he was implying and balled her fists. If this old man had not been Thane’s grandfather, she would’ve cursed him out for what he just said.

"That’s not-"

Matthew interjected, "Grandfather, I hear that brother Thane has developed a prosthetic leg that sister-in-law can use. If it’s any better, I can drive her later-"

Zachiel calmly interjected, "If I wanted to hear from a spineless man, I’d rip out your spine and ask your opinion."

Rosalind parted her lips to speak, but her husband placed his hand over hers, calming her down. He looked at her, letting her know it wasn’t the right time to say anything.

If anyone dared to speak out of tune, the old man would make them pay for it bitterly.

"You’re the spineless one, here." Brooke spat out, earning a jaw clench from Zachiel.

"Insolent wench!" Sophia tossed her napkin on the floor, "You have shown just how worthless you are! You deserve to be punished!"

Edward seconded, "Father, leave things to me, I’ll ruin her family, whatever business they’re into, I’ll run it into the ground. All of her family members will suffer." He suggested, reaching for his phone.

Zachiel turned to Brooke, he expected her to back down and immediately started kissing his feet, but she stared back at him, her eyes angry.

"Apologize!" Brooke demanded. "Apologize to Matthew, for speaking to him like that."

Malcolm raised his voice, "That’s enough. Just because my son married you doesn’t give you the right to speak to my father that way. No one in this house has accepted you as part of the family, I bid you to remember that."

But Brooke went on, "I don’t care. I really thought, that it would be the best for my husband if he stayed in contact with his family, but it seems that you’re all selfish people. You’re the ones with no sense of manners-" in the middle of her words, Zachiel raised his hand and cracked a slap on her face!

Leaving the entire family shook.
