Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 118: Must Be More To It
Chapter 118: Must Be More To It
Vance got off the floor and dusted his pants furiously, he looked over his shoulder at Matthew and painted a frown on his face.
"And what are you implying here? That my family has ulterior motives? Do you know who you’re talking to?!" He raised his voice loudly.
Brooke stirred in Thane’s arms and let out a moan.
Thane looked lovingly at the woman in his hands, then raised his angry glare at Vance, causing the man to flinch and shrink back.
He had heard the rumours of how ruthless Thane could be, although he doubted the vegetable Grayson could do anything to harm him.
With all the attention back on him, Thane walked past everyone and marched to the elevator, his attention pointed only at his wife. Mallory’s mother tried going after her, but her husband Godfrey held her by the arm, and shook his head slowly, stopping her.
Once the elevator doors closed, slaone got up from her seat and reached for her coat, "Well, that was fun." She gagged, slapping her coat on.
"Rowan, we’re leaving." She announced in a firm tone.
Her husband, who had a bottle of alcohol hooked under his armpit nodded and got up, he turned to his brother Edward, who looked all but happy to see him.
"Good night brother."
Edward ignored him and went outside for a midnight smoke, his wife, Laura following strictly behind him.
The Rosamunds who were furious marched out, but not without a promise to make the Graysons pay for humiliating their entire family.
On their way out, Matthew reached out to speak to Mallory, to return her book, but her cousin, Vance stood in-between, blocking his path.
"I’m not done with you, I’ll definitely make you regret messing with me." Vance threatened meaning every word.
Matthew chuckled, he parted his lips to deliver a sarcastic comment but decided against it when looked over his shoulder at Mallory who looked ready to cry.
He turned around and made for his bedroom, letting Vance have the last word.
Once they had left, Malcolm turned to his wife, who had a worried look on her face. He reached out for her and hugged her tightly to his chest, "It’ll be alright, we have father’s blessing for their marriage, the inheritance will remain in our side."
Rosalind sighed, "We’ve worked so hard for this Malcom, we can’t let it slip away."
Sloane huffed at her husband, who wasted no time to uncork the bottle in his hand, the moment the car was out of the estate.
"That wife of Thane’s, she must be very smart to capture him. We’ll have to be wary and make nice with her, she could prove difficult to us if she becomes an enemy." She said.
Her husband remained silent.
"What do you think? The Rosamunds are certainly up to something, they might just be after the inheritance after all." She reasoned, crossing her legs.
Rowan took a full swig out of the bottle before answering, "You’re too distrusting, I know the man, he’s harmless, he must just care about his daughter a lot."
Sloane scoffed, "The daughter that just appeared out of thin air? If he loved the kid so much, why’d he hide her away all this time?"
"To protect her obviously, she’s weak, he didn’t want to expose her to the pressure." He reasoned, but Sloane wasn’t having it.
She pinched her chin and narrowed her eyes, "There must be more to it. Just like there’s more to this sham of a marriage proposal. And I bet, that if we find out what, we could use it to our advantage." She thought aloud, twisting her lips into a grin.
Laura exhaled and inhaled sharply before approaching her husband. She reached into her dress and pulled out a plain silver necklace, and rested it over her black evening gown.
She stood beside him and latched onto his arm, "Edward it’s late, and you have that big meeting tomorrow-"
Shaking off her touch he refuted, "I can’t believe Malcom has the Rosamunds and father on his side. While William, who’s been nothing but loyal to the business-" he balled his fist, and gritted his teeth, the thought suffocating him.
"I don’t think Thane has bad intentions towards the business, he was always such a pitiful child, and our William is doing so well-"
"That’s why he should get the business! Why would father will our legacy to a man who doesn’t work for him? Thane is just Malcolm’s puppet, and I’ll be damned if I let that bastard take over. Not a second time." He hissed, crumpling the cigarette in his hand.
"You," he strictly turned to her. "Invite Jeanne to come tomorrow, let’s have her speak about the wedding to father, maybe that will distract him long enough." He ordered.
Laura frowned, "Didn’t father say that he’s not accepting-"
Edward hissed and gripped her by the shoulders, sinking his fingers into her skin through the fabric, "Why are you so slow witted?! Can’t you think? Do you want us to lose? To that bastard Malcolm?!" He glared at her, forcing Laura into apologizing.
"F-Forgive me, I’ll call her and have everything arranged." She said, her body quaking under his touch. She hated when he smoked, it was the only time he got rough with her, it was almost as if she was speaking to another person entirely.
Realizing what he had done, Edward quickly pulled away and turned around, avoiding the frightful gaze in her eye.
"Just go and do as I asked, and don’t come see me if I didn’t call for you." He said, messaging his temples, trying to reign his temper.
It had recently started happening since he began smoking, the exaggerated outbursts he had. At first, he was lashing out at staff members and squeezing stress balls to calm himself down.
But now, he had started taking it out on Laura.
Something he never wanted to happen. Although he never loved her, she was good to him, and for most of the time she gave him peace of mind, which he was grateful for.
Though worried about his mental state, she nodded, and walked out to make the call, choosing to ignore her husband’s acting out.
